Lena looked exactly the way I wanted her to. She was still the pretty girl I had once admired. She still wore that same practiced smile I had come to recognize as her nasty one. None of her tricks had changed. I could read every fake nicety on her face as easily as I breathed. It was almost comforting to see she was still the same vindictive bitch I had always known.
And seeing that baby bump on her made something mean and satisfied stir in me. She was carrying a child, just like I had been five years ago. When I first discovered Lena was pregnant, I had laughed. I had laughed in absolute delight.
As I stepped out of Adrian's office, I could hear her shouting at him inside. I guessed my little stunt had worked. I just wanted to mess with her a little, and look how she was reacting.
