"Don't you think there's something off about Ms. Hart?" Lawson said quietly. They had just finished a board meeting, the last members filtering out of the room.
Adrian dismissed him instantly. "What are you talking about, old man?"
Lawson adjusted his tie, his brows tightening. "I have never met a woman like her. It is as if she can read my mind. And even when she smiles, it feels like she is asking for my soul."
Adrian burst out laughing. "When was the last time you took a break, Lawson? Now you're saying crazy things. Weren't you the one who brought her in as an investor?"
Lawson swallowed his irritation. Adrian had done nothing for this company. Lawson had poured his life into it. He was not like the other board members who invested money just to make demands. He was the only one who actually worked. Adrian was a CEO on paper, but Lawson had never seen him do anything except flirt with half the women in the building and throw ridiculous company parties.
