Synopsis
Jake and Layla promised each other they would be together when they get older. However, a promise they had made to each other has decided the fate of Jake's path. As Jake tries to find new meaning in the midst of his path, his journey will give him a new experience and a new outlook. This is my first ever story. I have never made a story before, nor have I really written anything since High School (3 years ago), so I hope whatever I create with my imagination will speak to everyone and receive support. I wanted to share a story I am creating and something I thought of.

Chapter 1 - The Promise

It was all black when I felt someone shaking me with worry and a silhouette calling my name. I slowly opened my eyes as this cute girl, who was my childhood friend, was trying to wake me with tears. I had suddenly remembered that I had helped save Layla when she was trying to swim in the nearby lake. I had then shot up with an "Are you okay??" Layla replied with sudden anger, "Obviously, I'm fine if I am right here. You should worry about yourself instead." I laughed at her, "I was worried about the one who had almost drowned in the lake. It was just fatigue that crawled into me." We both laughed about the situation. "Don't go running into the water when you're not being watched by a responsible adult." We were kids at this time. She and I have been childhood friends from practically birth. Even though we were in different worlds. Her Family and my family got along very well, given the fact that our parents were high school friends. We had played together, and we even loved each other. However, there was one thing. I, Jake, 6 years old, had loved heroes. I loved them so much that I wished to be one. So I would decide to join the military when I get older. However, Layla didn't like that. I couldn't resist her. If I married her when we get older, then I would go for my 2nd passion. Become a firefighter. She and I made a child-like decision. As we were walking along the park sidewalk, there was a guy with a cart selling shop. Necklaces hang all over it. The salesman looked at us and gave us 2 necklaces. "The look and vibe of you two are kids in love." We then said thank you to the man and went on our merry way. When the sun was setting, we sat at the bench as the big ball of orange was going over the horizon of the lake. "She told me with sadness, We are moving away. My father's job had him needing to move somewhere else to complete his work." This shocked me to the core. It felt like my love was going away. But I then felt a sudden passion. "Don't forget about me," I cried out. Layla was looking at me with tears in her eyes. It's a promise. The necklaces that the man had given us were found on our necks.

"These objects wrapped around our necks are a sign of that promise. If you forget about our promise, I will never be together with you," were her words. I replied, if I see you when we get older, I will keep asking you out until you say yes. However, if you forget about me and continue saying no up until graduation. I will have a recruiter be by me, and I will then sign the papers in front of you." This was a big shot, but knowing her, she would never forget this promise [Or so Jake thought]. We had those necklaces around our necks, walking back after enjoying the sunset. We spent the last couple of days together, knowing she would move away. We wanted to spend as much time together as we could. She had then moved away.

"Jake...Jake...JAKE, WAKE UP!!!" the teacher called out.
