Chapter 10 - Bug In The Apartment

"Doctor Petal, you understand the rules of this game, and I do not have to explain to you how the secret agency works. Even though I have colleagues who I know as secret agents who share their cases with me, bridging the rules if I go to them asking them if they had similar cases submitted to their desk," Dr Lee said to Sophia in a polite tone.

" I understand, Dr Lee, but it is just that this case is getting very serious right now, and I think that my client's life is on the line. I have been unable to find her since she last reported to me, giving her the secrets. I think she made mention of it without intending to after the session got intense, and because of that, she has never shown up since then; what do you think I do about this? " She asks, sounding very worried.

Dr Lee was silent all through the moments as she spoke, and he could not hide the fact that he understood her perfectly. She was a psychologist, and she had every possibility to be so bonded to the client. He would be lying if he said he did not understand why her client's life was so important to her.

For a long time, he had admired her strategies and the way she had been able to climb up the ladder in her career. It was rare to see young ladies doing so well in their profession, but Sophia was different. Even though they were addressing themselves officially, they had been friends for a long time, and they had gone out of the way to help each other more than once.

" Dr Petal, believe me, I understand very much what you are talking about, and I know how important this is to you considering that your client's life is on the line, but then I cannot bridge the rules. Except that I can do one thing", Dr Lee said.

A smile curled up on Sophia's lip as she waited to hear what it was Dr Lee was going to say. It was amazing how he never seemed to be disappointed at any time. After all the disapproval, there was always a point that gave them hope, and he had just said it.

"Tell me, Dr Lee, I know you are about to go out of your way again. Please, it is going to be worth it, I promise," she said to him, giving him the go-ahead to speak.

" If you say so... I could speak to a colleague in a way that seemed as if I was asking for assistance concerning a case and know if he knew about this. It is going to be for me to ask for assistance from a colleague, but then it is part of the rules that we can reach out to any colleague who is willing to assist with the case and seek knowledge. He could refer me to something that might help you", Dr Lee said, and Sofia did not know how to be grateful to him.

" Thank you so much, Dr Lee. I would be looking forward to a response from you about this. You have no idea how excited you have made me feel at this moment, and right now, I can only hope that this colleague of yours has something to contribute to this, because it is eating me up. " Sophia said to him.

" That is one thing you get for having a profession that demands so much emotional connection. I can only imagine how you are feeling right now, but then this client of yours is lucky to have come to someone as compassionate as you," Dr Lee said.

Sophia was flattered by his compliments, but this was not the first time he had said things like that to her. He was a very good support system in her career, and not mentioning him in her boast of success was going to be neglecting him.

Even though she had not said it to him before, his encouragement had been some of the things that helped her, and each time he said those words to him,r, she felt reassured.

" Thank you, Dr Lee, I am grateful," Sophia said as the call ended.

Unknown to her, Mr Smith was watching all the activities at her house that evening, and because of his micro-recording device he planted in her apartment, he was listening to all the conversations she was having with Dr Lee on the phone.

He did not know who Dr Lee was, but knowing that he was the person who was going to help Sophia reveal the case, he decided that he was going to find him first and make sure that he was not able to help Sophia.

When he confirmed that the call had ended, he sat still staring at Sofia on his phone as she turned on the TV in her living room and relaxed to watch.

Knowing that there was nothing he could do, he felt very angry over there in his apartment. He had been a messenger of the order for a very long time and had a good record of executing every instruction. However, Sophia was proving difficult for him.

His major concern was how he was going to face the superior concerning the failure that he had encountered since he was sent on the mission to bring Sophia into the order.

It was going to be an embarrassment if this mission was taken away from him and given to another messenger to carry it out. For a long time, he had been priding himself on not losing a case in the order, but this time, he seemed to be losing it on an assignment that was supposed to be considered a very simple one.

He had just taken a shower and stood before his mirror dressing up when he heard a voice behind him.

"What is taking so long?" The deep voice asked.
