Chapter 231 - [HP] 231: Evolution! Soul Stone Page

Louis's objective was very simple: to use the power of Mejai's Soul-Stealing Scroll to draw Salazar Slytherin's soul into the scroll and seize Salazar Slytherin's magical power!

Salazar Slytherin! He was one of the most formidable Dark Magic masters in the entire history of the wizarding world—a legendary Dark wizard in every sense of the word.

Although he was one of the Four Founders of Hogwarts, in truth he was radical and irascible, an outright outlier among the four.

His skill pool was unquestionably bottomless.

Yet just as Louis thought he would effortlessly obtain a legendary-grade soul, Mejai's Soul-Stealing Scroll suddenly gave out!

Or rather, it wasn't that it wanted to stop—it simply couldn't keep absorbing.

Half of Salazar Slytherin's soul had been drawn into the scroll, but the other half stubbornly refused to enter, no matter what.

"Level too low…?" Louis frowned as he looked at the scroll in his hand.

He took out a crystal-clear, seven-colored gemstone from his storage space and crushed it in his palm, scattering the shimmering powder over the scroll.

[Legendary Crystal: Can upgrade any item to Legendary grade.]

This was an item he had drawn from his last Legendary lottery. Louis had never quite decided what to use it on—until now. No need to think anymore; the Soul-Stealing Scroll's level was clearly insufficient.

"Voldemort may also be Legendary-grade, but his Horcruxes were clearly incomplete. Salazar Slytherin's soul, on the other hand—even though it's a product of root-level rules—hasn't lost a shred of its level."

Louis smacked his lips. If he hadn't had a Legendary Crystal, this operation would likely have failed completely.

Thinking about it, it made perfect sense. As an item that dealt with the special domain of souls, a high-quality Soul-Stealing Scroll trying to leap across two major tiers to absorb a Legendary soul was, frankly, overestimating itself.

But now, there was no problem. The Soul-Stealing Scroll had become Legendary-grade as well.

As the seven-colored gemstone powder slowly merged into the scroll, the Soul-Stealing Scroll in Louis's hand underwent a dramatic transformation.

Its original scroll-like form gradually shifted into a rectangular shape. Before long, a stone book appeared in Louis's hands, and Salazar Slytherin's scroll naturally fused into the stone book during the process.

At the same time, far away beneath London's Whitehall, within the Death Chamber of the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic, the stone archway draped with a tattered veil suddenly emitted a faint sound.

It seemed to react to something, but due to the lack of a resonant medium, nothing manifested.

No one noticed this scene. Not even the Shadow Legion ninjas lurking within the Death Chamber perceived it, as if the anomaly of the stone archway were a call from the dead of another world—something the living could never sense.

Just as Louis was about to examine the effects of his new item, he suddenly shivered, a strange chill running through him. He felt something odd, yet couldn't tell where the feeling came from.

"It feels familiar… but also not dangerous." Louis rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Could it be Cassandra badmouthing me to Hermione?"

After puzzling over it for a while without reaching any conclusion, Louis simply gave up on the inexplicable chill and turned to the system notifications.

[Soul Stone Page (Total of nine pages can be upgraded; upgrade conditions unknown)]

[Effect One (Power Mastery): Each stone page can record one soul not exceeding Legendary grade. The holder of the stone page may copy any skill of the Legendary soul.]

[Effect Two (Soul Warden): You may release the soul stored in the stone page and temporarily provide it with a physical body to serve at the holder's command. Each deployment lasts no more than ten days. Cooldown: twenty days.]

[Currently Recorded Soul: Salazar Slytherin (Legendary Dark Wizard)]

The Soul-Stealing Scroll had turned into a Soul Stone Page, and the name of its second effect was particularly interesting—Soul Warden. Compared to "Soul-Stealing," it couldn't have been more different.

"Upgraded once and got recruited," Louis chuckled. "Went from a thief to a prison warden."

Smiling, he flipped open the stone page, planning to take a look at Salazar Slytherin's skills.

Suddenly, his movement halted. His body faded, turning translucent, and vanished into the air.

The next instant, a burst of flame appeared within the chamber. As the fire dissipated, Dumbledore emerged, his expression grave, standing before a pile of mosaic-like remains.

So Dumbledore had come after all. On second thought, that was only natural—the earlier carpet-bombing with the Gate of Babylon had caused quite a commotion. It would have been strange if it hadn't alerted him.

Louis, however, was not worried in the slightest. He had left a substitute in his dormitory precisely in case someone came investigating.

Dumbledore had no idea that a pair of eyes was watching him from the shadows of the chamber. He carefully examined the blood and flesh on the ground, frowning at the lingering vicious magic within it—the residue of Salazar Slytherin's unique curses.

"Very ancient magic," Dumbledore murmured, his brow furrowed. Even he had never seen this kind of magic before; he could only estimate its era based on its archaic characteristics.

Such magic should have long been replaced by simpler spells. Who had destroyed that Slytherin statue? And why did the statue contain such grotesque flesh and blood?

Could this be another plot hidden within the Chamber of Secrets?

Dumbledore felt uneasy.

"Wait… something's not quite right." Dumbledore studied the mosaic-like mass and suddenly noticed something. "These traces…"

With a wave of his hand, he swept aside a portion of the blood and flesh, revealing the widened passage behind it—the result of the Gate of Babylon.

To avoid leaving any traces, Louis had deliberately limited the bombardment's range, ensuring that none of the Noble Phantasms left suspicious cuts or cracks on the stone walls.

Because the Noble Phantasms had blasted out a smooth passage, all the original traces were erased—leaving behind an enormous, almost terrifying entrance.

Even before it was widened, the passage had already been wide enough for four people to walk abreast. After all, this was a path the Basilisk frequently used; it couldn't have been too narrow.

Watching Dumbledore light up his wand and step inside, Louis double-checked the surroundings, erased every possible trace that might expose him, then teleported away with his substitute.

What Dumbledore was exploring was undoubtedly the true Chamber of Secrets—but there probably wasn't anything valuable left inside. Given Voldemort's personality, he would have stripped the place clean.

If not for the need to preserve a habitat for the Basilisk, he might even have burned the entire chamber down.

In any case, Louis had already claimed the greatest inheritance of the Chamber—the soul of Salazar Slytherin himself. Everything else was optional at best.

This soul contained all of Salazar Slytherin's lifetime of abilities. Whichever one he wanted, he could simply draw it directly!

"Dark magic…" Louis chuckled softly, thoroughly satisfied. "Now I can summon Fiendfyre and let it feast its fill."
