At cock-crow, as the sun began to cast its first rays, Chao Meng ran out of the old ceremonial hall without even washing his face. He rushed into the Chief Monk's kuti (living quarters), trembling. The Chief Monk seemed to be waiting for him, seated in meditation on a chair.
"Nomoskar, Preah Techo Khun! (I pay homage to your Venerable!)" Chao Meng bowed his head and knelt down. "I... I saw them. I dreamed of three spirits. They looked sorrowful and whispered that they must end their karma!"
The Chief Monk slowly opened his eyes and smiled faintly: "I know, child. They were not a dream, but a genuine manifestation. Those spirits are the three wealthy benefactors from over a hundred years ago. They died in an accident while gathering to prepare for a large ceremony in this very hall."
The Chief Monk then began to narrate the mysterious stories he had learned through old documents and spiritual contemplation:
* Spirit 1 (The Woodcutter): This was Lok Setthei Meas (Mr. Meas, the Millionaire). He was a skilled carpenter who sincerely wished to build the ceremonial hall. He donated much of his wood, but due to his greed, he also secretly cut down a sacred tree growing on the pagoda's land to use it as the hall's main pillar. His merit was mixed with the karma of stealing the pagoda's property.
* Spirit 2 (The Thief): This was Lok Srey Neang Ni (Madam Ni). She was extremely wealthy and always came to the pagoda dressed in fine clothing. One day, driven by greed, she stole a diamond ring that a villager had donated and kept in the pagoda's glass cabinet. She died immediately after the theft. The merit she made could not wash away the sin of stealing a valuable object in a sacred place.
* Spirit 3 (The Poor-Man Despiser): This was Lok Oknha Pich (Lord Pich). He made many donations, spending a vast fortune. However, every time he made a donation, he would always look down upon and mock the poor who made offerings with small amounts of money or a handful of Bay Ben (rice balls). He scorned the faith of others, believing that larger merits yielded greater rewards. He was trapped by karma due to his contempt for the devotion of others.
The Chief Monk explained: "They are bound to that hall because their sacrifice did not stem from a pure heart. They are there to wait for a person with a pure heart to come and help release this karma."
Chao Meng was puzzled: "Is that person me, Venerable?"
The Chief Monk smiled: "For that, you must ask Grand-Aunt Phan. She has known this story for a very long time because she saw them with her spiritual sight."
Chao Meng hurried to Grand-Aunt Phan's house. Grand-Aunt Phan was sitting, chewing betel leaves, and waiting for him.
"Chao Meng, my child! I knew you had met them. You are the one they are waiting for!" Grand-Aunt Phan said clearly. "They need an oath and the cleansing of their karma, which is tied to three objects hidden within that ceremonial hall:"
* A splinter of wood from the stolen tree: Representing the karma of Setthei Meas (Spirit 1).
* The stolen ring: Representing the karma of Neang Ni (Spirit 2).
* The small offering tray (kantang bon) used to mock the poor: Representing the karma of Oknha Pich (Spirit 3).
Grand-Aunt Phan told Chao Meng that he must find these three objects with a pure and non-greedy heart.
"Son Meng! You must find these objects and deliver them to the Chief Monk to perform the Bangsukol (funeral rite/chanting for the dead). That is when their karma will end," Grand-Aunt Phan handed a small torch (chanluh) to Chao Meng.
"But the Venerable said not to bring fire into the hall at night?" Chao Meng wondered.
"This is a consecrated torch that I prayed over! It is the light of goodness, not the light of ordinary fire. It will help you! Remember, true courage comes from doing good deeds, not from making a wager!"
Chao Meng held the small torch tightly in his hand and felt his heart fill with a sense of hope and strength that he had never felt before. He knew that this mission was not just about settling a gambling debt, but about saving the three unfortunate spirits from the torment of the old ceremonial hall.
អត្ថបទជាខ្មែរ
នៅពេលមាន់រងាវ ពេលដែលព្រះអាទិត្យចាប់ផ្តើមបញ្ចេញរស្មីដំបូង ចៅម៉េង បានរត់ចាកចេញពីសាលាបុណ្យចាស់ទាំងមិនទាន់បានលាងមុខលាងមាត់ផង។ គេបានចូលទៅរកលោកតា ចៅអធិការនៅឯកុដិទាំងញាប់ញ័រ។ លោកតា ចៅអធិការហាក់ដូចជារង់ចាំគេរួចហើយ ដោយអង្គុយធ្វើសមាធិនៅលើកៅអី។
«នមស្ការ ព្រះតេជគុណ!» ចៅម៉េង ឱនក្បាលហើយលុតជង្គង់ចុះ។ «ខ្ញុំ... ខ្ញុំបានឃើញហើយ។ ខ្ញុំបានយល់សប្តិឃើញវិញ្ញាណបីនាក់ ពួកគេមានទឹកមុខក្រៀមក្រំ ហើយបានខ្សឹបថា ពួកគេត្រូវបញ្ចប់កម្ម!»
លោកតា ចៅអធិការបើកភ្នែកយឺតៗ ហើយញញឹមតិចៗ៖ «តាដឹងហើយចៅ។ ពួកគេមិនមែនជាសុបិនទេ តែជាការបង្ហាញខ្លួនពិតប្រាកដ។ វិញ្ញាណទាំងនោះ គឺជា អ្នកធ្វើបុណ្យដ៏មានទ្រព្យបីនាក់ កាលពីជាងមួយរយឆ្នាំមុន។ ពួកគេបានស្លាប់ក្នុងគ្រោះថ្នាក់មួយ នៅពេលដែលពួកគេកំពុងប្រជុំរៀបចំពិធីបុណ្យធំមួយនៅសាលានេះ»។
៣.២ ការបកស្រាយរឿងរ៉ាវរបស់វិញ្ញាណ
លោកតា ចៅអធិការក៏ចាប់ផ្តើមនិទានរឿងអាថ៌កំបាំងដែលលោកតាបានដឹងតាមរយៈឯកសារចាស់ៗ និងការផ្សងធម៌៖
* វិញ្ញាណទី ១ (អ្នកកាប់ឈើ): គឺលោក សេដ្ឋី មាស។ គាត់ជាជាងឈើដ៏ចំណាន ដែលមានសទ្ធាចង់សាងសង់សាលាបុណ្យ។ គាត់បានបរិច្ចាគឈើរបស់គាត់ជាច្រើនមែន តែដោយសារលោភលន់ គាត់ក៏បានលួចកាប់ឈើពិសិដ្ឋមួយដើម ដែលដុះនៅលើដីកម្មសិទ្ធិវត្ត ដើម្បីយកមកធ្វើជាសសរធំរបស់សាលាបុណ្យនេះដែរ។ បុណ្យរបស់គាត់លាយឡំដោយកម្មនៃការលួចទ្រព្យវត្ត។
* វិញ្ញាណទី ២ (អ្នកលួចទ្រព្យ): គឺលោកស្រី អ្នកនាង នី។ គាត់ជាអ្នកមានទ្រព្យស្តុកស្តម្ភ តែងតែមកវត្តធ្វើបុណ្យដោយសម្លៀកបំពាក់ល្អៗ។ ថ្ងៃមួយ ដោយសារតែចិត្តលោភលន់ គាត់បានលួច ចិញ្ចៀនពេជ្រ មួយវង់ដែលអ្នកភូមិបានបរិច្ចាគទុកក្នុងទូកញ្ចក់របស់វត្ត ហើយគាត់បានស្លាប់ភ្លាមៗក្រោយពេលលួចនោះ។ បុណ្យដែលគាត់ធ្វើ មិនអាចលាងបាបកម្មលួចរបស់មានតម្លៃក្នុងទីបរិសុទ្ធបានឡើយ។
* វិញ្ញាណទី ៣ (អ្នកមើលងាយអ្នកក្រ): គឺលោក ឧកញ៉ា ពេជ្រ។ គាត់ធ្វើបុណ្យច្រើនណាស់ ដោយចំណាយទ្រព្យសម្បត្តិមហាសាល។ តែរាល់ពេលធ្វើបុណ្យ គាត់តែងតែ មើលងាយ និង ឌឺដង អ្នកក្រីក្រ ដែលធ្វើបុណ្យដោយលុយតិចតួច ឬបាយបិណ្ឌមួយក្តាប់។ គាត់បានមើលងាយសទ្ធារបស់អ្នកដទៃ ដោយគិតថាបុណ្យធំគឺបានផលច្រើនជាង។ គាត់ត្រូវជាប់កម្ម ដោយសារតែការប្រមាថសទ្ធារបស់អ្នកដទៃ។
លោកតាបានពន្យល់ថា៖ «ពួកគេត្រូវជាប់នៅសាលាបុណ្យនោះ ព្រោះការលះបង់របស់ពួកគេមិនបានកើតចេញពីចិត្តបរិសុទ្ធឡើយ។ ពួកគេនៅទីនោះ ដើម្បី រង់ចាំមនុស្សមានចិត្តបរិសុទ្ធ ម្នាក់មកជួយដោះលែងកម្មនេះ។»
៣.៣ តួនាទីរបស់លោកយាយ ផាន់
ចៅម៉េងកាន់តែឆ្ងល់៖ «តើមនុស្សម្នាក់នោះ គឺខ្ញុំមែនទេ ព្រះតេជគុណ?»
លោកតា ចៅអធិការញញឹម៖ «រឿងនេះ ចៅត្រូវទៅសួរ លោកយាយ ផាន់ ។ គាត់ដឹងរឿងនេះតាំងពីយូរលង់ណាស់មកហើយ ព្រោះគាត់បានឃើញពួកគេដោយភ្នែកទិព្វរបស់គាត់។»
ចៅម៉េងក៏ប្រញាប់ប្រញាល់ទៅផ្ទះលោកយាយ ផាន់។ លោកយាយ ផាន់ បានអង្គុយរង់ចាំចៅម៉េង ដោយញ៉ាំស្លឹកម្លូ។
«ចៅម៉េង ក្មួយតូច! យាយដឹងថាចៅបានជួបពួកគេហើយ។ ក្មួយគឺជាអ្នកដែលពួកគេរង់ចាំ!» លោកយាយ ផាន់ និយាយយ៉ាងច្បាស់។ «ពួកគេត្រូវការពាក្យសម្បថ និងការលាងបាបកម្មរបស់ពួកគេ ដែលបានជាប់ទាក់ទងនឹង វត្ថុបីមុខ ដែលលាក់ទុកក្នុងសាលាបុណ្យនោះ៖»
* កំទេចឈើពីដើមឈើលួច: ជាតំណាងនៃកម្មរបស់ សេដ្ឋី មាស (វិញ្ញាណទី ១)។
* ចិញ្ចៀនដែលលួច: ជាតំណាងនៃកម្មរបស់ អ្នកនាង នី (វិញ្ញាណទី ២)។
* កន្តាំងបុណ្យដែលមើលងាយអ្នកក្រ: ជាតំណាងនៃកម្មរបស់ ឧកញ៉ា ពេជ្រ (វិញ្ញាណទី ៣)។
លោកយាយ ផាន់បានប្រាប់ថា ចៅម៉េងត្រូវទៅរកវត្ថុទាំងបីមុខនេះ ដោយចិត្តស្មោះត្រង់ និងមិនមានការលោភលន់។
៣.៤ បេសកកម្មថ្មី
«កូនម៉េង! កូនត្រូវរកវត្ថុទាំងនេះ យកមកប្រគល់ជូនលោកតា ចៅអធិការ ដើម្បីធ្វើ ពិធីបង្សុកូល ។ ពេលនោះហើយដែលកម្មរបស់ពួកគេនឹងត្រូវបញ្ចប់» លោកយាយ ផាន់ បានប្រគល់ ចន្លុះតូច មួយដល់ចៅម៉េង។
«តែព្រះតេជគុណថា កុំឲ្យយកភ្លើងចូលសាលាពេលយប់ទេតើ?» ចៅម៉េងឆ្ងល់។
«នេះជាចន្លុះវេទមន្តដែលយាយបានបន់ស្រន់ទុក! វាជាពន្លឺនៃសេចក្តីល្អ មិនមែនជាពន្លឺនៃភ្លើងធម្មតាទេ។ វានឹងជួយក្មួយ! សូមក្មួយចងចាំថា ភាពក្លាហានពិត គឺកើតចេញពីការធ្វើអំពើល្អ មិនមែនកើតចេញពីការភ្នាល់នោះទេ!»
ចៅម៉េងកាន់ចន្លុះតូចនោះជាប់នឹងដៃ ហើយមានអារម្មណ៍ថាបេះដូងរបស់គេពោរពេញទៅដោយ ក្តីសង្ឃឹម និង កម្លាំងចិត្ត មួយដែលមិនធ្លាប់មានពីមុនមក។ គេដឹងថា បេសកកម្មនេះ មិនមែនសម្រាប់តែការដោះបំណុលភ្នាល់នោះទេ តែជាការសង្គ្រោះវិញ្ញាណកំសត់ទាំងបីនាក់ ឲ្យបានរួចចាកផុតពីទារុណកម្មនៃសាលាបុណ្យចាស់នេះ។
