Chapter 49 - Chapter 49 – Strange Logan

All the students gathered in the hall upon returning with their teachers. Quinn's group (composed of Vorden, Pio, and Layla) and Lana's group coincidentally were in the same area and were able to exchange the crib-notes versions of their tales from the most recent adventure. This was mainly because both parties were curious about the states of each other. Lana decided it would be best to wither her armor to avoid questions. When she did, she noticed her uniform was torn and put on level 1 armor to cover herself. She was quite pleased the skank Cia didn't wish to join the group conversation. Lana called Rene over as well and got her contact information. Not knowing how long they would be there for, Lana took a sandwich out of her bag and handed it to Logan. Apparently, he had run out while on planet and was thankful.

General Nathan then made an announcement the students were free to leave the area and would get a schedule for the coming week in the morning. They were meant to be gone for the full week. It was almost time for curfew so the students didn't really have much of a choice, so to their rooms, they went.

The teachers stayed to discuss the future of the planet. At this point, it was to be considered a red-portal planet until a special operations team could assess if the threat remained. When dalki leave a settlement, they take the blue crystals they used for a light source with them and the crystals remained in this location. This essentially meant the designation was temporary and there may be future classes designated to go on expedition to this planet.

The teachers were then informed the inter-base tournament was coming up in two weeks. Strong first-years were to take part. Each teacher needed to select a student for ranged, fighting, and crafting. This meant they were cancelling morning classes but having homeroom in the afternoon to talk about it with the students.

Before going to sleep, Lana asked again about baby milk for baby beasts then pulled the baby out of her undergarment. Kattie looked at the infant beastie and realized she needed to call her father and did immediately. She explained the situation and her father explained what to do. Kattie then went to the beast pantry, got what was needed and taught Lana how to feed the little baby.

If you aren't busy before breakfast, do you want to come visit? I have something I want to show you.

I'll be there at 6:30.

Smiley face

Smiley face.

The next morning, Vorden showed up right on time. Lana pulled him into the kitchen because Kattie was still asleep. Vorden liked her when she looked like this, all sweet and innocent but up to something at the same time. She was sure of herself and knew how to get what she wanted. Perfect traits for a woman in his opinion. She reached into her cleavage and brought out a black kitten-like creature. It had roots swirling around its baby legs and small little tentacles coming out of its back. She had the biggest smile on her face and Vorden was shocked she had a beast without being from the Bree family. She could get in serious trouble. His worry level just went up three notches.

"He's still a baby so he needs to stay with me to stay warm so he's a boob-cat for right now. I need a name, though. Any ideas?"

Sil wanted to come out and hold the baby so Vorden allowed him out. Lana handed him over and the baby protested. Lana took him back but let Sil pet him. The baby purred at Sil's touch.

"Can we name him Caser?"

Lana smiled, "Caser it is."

Sil leaned in for a kiss and she gladly returned it. She was happy to have such an amazing man and was hoping things would work out one day where they could sleep and wake up together every day. He set her on the counter so he could caress her but soon after the baby started meowing for breakfast.

Sil groaned.

Lana chuckled, "maybe tonight once everything for the day is done."

Sil nodded, "can I hold his bottle?"

"Of course! Let me get it made."

She did so then handed him the bottle. She placed Caser back in her cleavage since that would be his hiding place and he would need to eat from there during the day. He needed to get used to it. Caser was almost done eating when Katie heard the cries and came in to see Sil feeding the baby beast. Vorden quickly took the seat.

"Vorden, you're down here early?" Kattie said, not properly dressed for visitors. She looked between Vorden and Lana and noticed the stances of each as she walked in. They looked really close. Closer than would be expected of a student just helping out a fellow student. "Is there something I should know?"

"I was having trouble coming up with a name and Vorden is really creative in that way. He was afraid Caser here would be feeling cramped in his current hiding space so… He looked in there to make sure Caser fit okay and wasn't having trouble breathing. That's all." Lana smiled.

Kattie didn't buy it but dropped the subject.

Vorden returned to his room to put on his uniform. The girls did their morning meditations.

Lana contacted Rene, Alex and Duff to see if there was free time around 7:45. Since the time off was unexpected, they all met Alex at the forge after breakfast. Duff was now eating breakfast with the team, at Lana's insistence. Rene saw them finish eating and walked out with her, stringless bow in hand as requested.

Alex was already there and had not even started the forge due to the day's strange schedule but this was his home as her tree was hers.

Lana called the meeting so she did the talking. "Alex, you did such a great job that I wanted to ask if you could use these crystals to make armor for Duff, here. He just joined my team. Also, on our adventure, we discovered this bow and I was wondering if it could be restrung? Is it worth it?"

Alex looked at the dumper crystals and thought they would make very nice armor. He quoted the same price as before so Lana gave him seven crystals. Alex then looked at her bow and said it was very worth it. It was an advanced tier bow. Lana then pulled out the crystal she removed from the mother of the baby kitten and asked if it would work. Lana thought she was an intermediate beast but thought it would be a better match. Alex quickly informed her this was an advanced tier and while he had never worked with such a level before and would love to do so, he needed to look into what else was needed to add to such a high-level bow string. Alex did promise to make it for 20 of the intermediate tier crystals as soon as possible, though. She left everything he needed. He then collected the contact data from Duff and Rene.

Rene was stupefied that this girl she only met yesterday, who had saved her life was again helping her by repairing the bow they had found together.

Later in class, Nis explained the tournament, that people needed to volunteer to be cheering sections, make signs and such. He announced Logan Green as the pick for crafting, Dobin Plantwell for fighting and Susan Barnes for the ranged event. Lana didn't pay attention to the alternate names. She was so proud of her brother. He started as a level 1 and now he was the choice for the class for the fighting event. He didn't have his soul weapon or as much experience as the second-years but she felt this was good for him.

"Now that business is done, the class is now dismi….."

Nis was cut off as four soldiers walked in asking about Pio Blank and went to grab him. Then Logan did a funny thing and tried to keep the soldiers from taking them. Even stranger, it was General Duke who took him not General Nathan. What was going on with this strange student?

Lana wanted to maximize her time with Sil tonight so she made a sandwich for Logan in her room. She decided to take it straight up there before going to her tree. The day before had been exhilarating though, she was not sure she was willing to tell anyone about those emotions yet. She felt so confident after all this training she had done. She wasn't sure if she could stand up to adults yet but she was feeling really good.

She ran up to Logan's room and let herself in ready to give his sandwich over and noticed Vorden, Quinn, Fex, and Layla were all there with very unhappy faces.

She heard Vorden say something about not helping Quinn as she walked in and Quinn saying something about it being too risky. Then they all noticed her.

"Logan," as she walked forward a little, "should I come back later?"
