12 Am, 17th March 2089, Calabasas, Los Angeles, USA
"No!" a loud scream could be heard from a small room in a lavish villa, as a young man seemed to wake up in bed from a horrible nightmare. He took two minutes to rationalize himself as he looked around the familiar yet unfamiliar setting.
"Is this for real?! How can this be, didn't I die from that Extinction Class monster?! This villa was destroyed in the attack, then how is it here?! He stealthily got out of the bed and opened his door. Small conversations could be heard from the living room downstairs. The young man recognized those voices to be of his mother and grandmother. He looked straight at the adjacent room where a light can be seen through the gap beneath the door. He knew it was his elder sister.
The young man retreated back into his room, with wild thoughts spinning in his head. "Could it be I, Troy Carter have returned?" He hurriedly checked the date, "March 17 2089! What?! Isn't that almost 2 years before the great calamity struck? Am I really back!" Troy could not comprehend as his mind turned to the events he had experienced.
As Troy had mentioned 2 years from now Earth would face a great calamity. Spirit Aura started forming in Earth's atmosphere. It gave rise to evolved beasts, monsters and other paranormal and supernatural entities. Humans once the superior species, faced immeasurable crisis. Lot of people died, military and modern weapons were useless against these monsters and the global population declined by 50%. It wasn't until six months had passed that Earth was visited by humans from another realm. They called themselves the Terran race, and they had the ability to harness spirit aura for their own use. They were able to neutralize the immediate threats, and helped Earth's human from inevitable extinction.
They taught Humans the method to harness spirit aura and set up institutions and organizations for the same cause. Eventually powerful humans appeared with their teachings, with superpower like abilities to harness spirit aura and utilize various elements for their use. These humans were known as the Awakened, and they walked a martial path which saw many of them rise to glory and power. These awakened were regarded as heroes and pillars of Earth. They enjoyed privileges far above the normal norms. With the awakened, humanity was able to bounce back and contend with the ferocious beasts and monster, and stabilized their race. Conflicts would arise but humans as adaptive species had learned to fight back.
The Terrans imparted knowledge and technologies that use spirit aura, which boosted humanity's growth and stability during turbulent times. This period was termed the Era of Aura Recovery by scholars and pundits worldwide. 2 years into the Era, the Earth saw many races which were considered to be fantasy, arise such as elves, dwarves, druids, demons, fiends etc. Some were benevolent and wanted co-operation and coexistence, while some were bent on chaos and destruction. A new era was thus formed, and scholars titled it the Profound Era.
While things were looking good on the surface, the ugly nature of humanity again resurfaced with external stability. Emphasis was put on strength and talent, and survival of the fittest became the natural law. Civil law and order became heavily relaxed and were not enforced unless the crimes were really severe. This led to a lot of corruption especially based of those families and individuals with wealth and influence. Hidden snakes revealed their true faces and many humans joined the malevolent races for benefits including prosperity and power.
Troy Carter, was the adopted son of the wealthy and influential Carter family. His parents used to work for the Carter family before dying in an accident. Troy was only 4 years old at that time. the old man of the Carter family Jason Carter and his wife Philomena, felt pity on the child and adopted him as their grandson, the young master of Carter family, and registered him as the son of Phoebe Carter, who was a single mother with a daughter. Her marriage had ended in a bitter divorce which prevented her from finding any romantic attachments. Grandpa Jason, who was a traditional patriarch wanted a male grandchild to pass on their legacy. So Troy became Phoebe's son and brother to her daughter Silvia, who at the time was 7. Sadly, Grandpa Jason passed away when Troy was 11. Although, Troy was never mistreated for being adopted his adopted mother never truly accepted him over the years because of her unconditional love for her daughter, and Silvia who grew up surrounded by opinionated relatives did not see him as her brother at all. The only person who treated him truly treated him as a family member was his grandmother Philomena.
Troy all his life had tried to win their recognition and love, and when the aura recovery started he awakened a superb talent, which he thought would help him mend his relations, but the family was struck with a tragedy as Philomena, his grandmother passed away just 1 week later. This was due to her age and her body rejecting the spirit aura. Later, Troy had learned that it was due to the rule of natural selection where all humans were not able to harness spirit aura, and the unfit ones were culled.
Since then, Troy's life descended into hell as envious of his abilities, forces who had been eyeing the vast wealth of the Carter family, and coveting the beauty of his mother and sister, falsely framed him in an incident which made him lose his awakened qualifications. His family misunderstood him and he was shunned by society. Everyday he lived as an ex-fugitive, until that fateful day when everything ended. The Carter family long before had become a shell of its previous existences as the once so called extended relatives and well-wishers revealed their ugly faces to usurp everything, till the family was ruined and defenseless. Troy could hopelessly watch everything unfold before dying himself at the hands of a strong and hideous monster.
What Troy thought to be the end, was not the end as when he was floating in endless darkness after death, the weird metal pendant he wore on his neck which was given to him by his parents shone with a bright light, and an ethereal voice sounded saying, "destiny restart, final reincarnation in process, overlord fate detected, system binding successful, initialization rebirth". Before Troy could make anything of what he heard his consciousness was jolted away. The last thing he heard before fading into nothingness was that same ethereal voice, " All the best, Troy Carter, the hope of myriad realms will depend on you, My Overlord"
