Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Status

For now, Rudra had no way of knowing what talent of his entails for the future, whether it will bestow upon him boon or bane; he just had to hope for the best. Thinking there was no benefit of obsessing over something he had no control over, Rudra turned his focus to something else.

"When I was unable to absorb spiritual power, I thought I had a bad constitution; it turns out I didn't even have a constitution to begin with. Having shit for a constitution would have been better than having none at all." Rudra muttered in disappointment.

In this world, the constitution was seen as the main indicator of how strong one's potential was. Even having a bad constitution would have helped him immensely. 'Not having a constitution only means that I will have to work harder; I will only have myself to rely on. The main problem I'm concerned with right now is that I might not be able to enter that academy. No matter what, I have to enter that academy; my plans depend on that.' Rudra mused in silence.

[The Constitution is nothing without a very good Spiritual sense. If one does not have a good spiritual sense, it wouldn't matter if they had a godly constitution. The host has a very good spiritual sense, and if paired with the fact that the host possesses the Nether eyes. Host has nothing to worry about.]

[If you are not satisfied with the constitution you have right now, there is no need to worry. You can gain constitution in many different ways. As you grow stronger, I will assist you with everything I can.]

Right on queue, when Rudra was feeling a little down, the voice echoed in his mind. It was as if the book was trying to console Rudra. He didn't bother asking the book how he was supposed to get the constitution; he had a feeling that he wouldn't be able to get the answer to that question.

"Alright, I will trust you on that. By the way, can you stop calling me 'Host'? That sounds very annoying." Rudra replied.

[Confirming host's choice. How does the host want me to call him?]

"Will you be able to talk to me like a person? Robot-like voice speaking inside my head 20/7 feels weird to me." Rudra inquired as he felt frustrated.

[Affirmative.... Changing the system to the host's liking.]

"So, do you have any name that I can call you with? Calling you, the book seems a little out of place." Rudra asked, and he seemed curious.

[I cannot say that I have a name; you may call me whatever you want to.]

"This feels way better," Rudra said with a smile. The voice that sounded similar to a robot earlier suddenly sounded just like a human. Although not the same as a human, it was close enough. "How about I call you 'System'? Just like the novels I used to enjoy, where the main characters get a system that helps them get stronger. Haha," Rudra muttered as he started chuckling.

Rudra didn't even wait for the system to reply as he asked one more question that confused him. "What is chaos alignment supposed to mean?" Usually, a magus's alignment is supposed to showcase what a magus is most talented in.

For example, a magus who specializes in summoning beasts would have a 'summoner' alignment, a magus who focuses on using the elemental magic would have an 'Elemental' alignment. So, having chaos didn't make any sense to him as he had never read about any chaos alignment magus before.

[Chaos alignment represents that you will not be restricted to using just a single type of magic. Your body is capable of using all types of magic to its full potential without any drawbacks.]

"What?" Rudra was dumbfounded by that statement; this was something that was just unheard of. In most cases, a mage would only be able to use the magic with which they are alignment. If a mage tries to learn a magic that they aren't aligned with, they would not be able to learn. Even if they can learn that magic, they would have to climb a steep hill if they wanted to excel in that type of magic.

However, there were some rare cases where people had 2 or even up to 4 types of different alignments. Those types of talents were very few; only 1 in a million had 2 different kinds of alignment. For example, from what Rudra knew, Dolores was not only a martial artist, she was also a healer mage. With that type of talent, she went on to become one of the most powerful people of her time.

Rudra could feel the hair on his body standing just from the revelation. This was a very great opportunity; if he wanted to become someone like Dolores or even someone stronger than her, he had to use the advantage he had. Although I have such a cheat-like ability, I still don't possess a constitution. This will be a huge roadblock that I will have to overcome soon.' Rudra mused.

With no constitution, he knew that training in just one type of alignment would be difficult. Training 2 types at once would be near impossible, so he had to be very thoughtful when making decisions in the future.

"About the skills, I somewhat get what the Nether Eye is supposed to be. I somehow was able to gain this ability after almost dying. Is this a growth-type ability as well?" Rudra asked.

[No, unfortunately, this skill is not the type that grows stronger.]

"Well, I half expected that after reading the status window," Rudra muttered. Unlike the lightning skill, this skill didn't have the option of growth, so it was obvious. However, he still wanted confirmation.

"I don't think I did anything special. So, how did the lightning skill become level 2? Was this also because of Dolores?" Rudra asked.

[No, when you were fighting the wolf, your skill leveled up, which helped you in defeating the wolf. When you were about to be killed by the wolf, you overexerted yourself when using this ability. Which, in turn, helped you to increase your understanding of the concept of the element. For the future, it is recommended that you do not, under any circumstances, try to increase your elemental understanding by fighting till death. Chances of your survival decrease significantly in doing so.]

Rudra stared at the wall with a dumbfounded expression, 'It's not like I fought the wolf to increase my elemental understanding in the first place.' He wanted to say something; however, he decided against it.

"It turns out I was just lucky that I survived the fight against the wolf. " Rudra sighed. The realization finally settled in. If his skill didnt level up at that moment, his head would have been added to that wolf's bizarre collection. This made him realize even after coming this far, he was still just as powerless as he always was.

[No, you weren't lucky, luck played no part in you winning that fight. It was your will to fight and will to survive that helped you to advance skills so quickly.]

Rudra just nodded when he heard that; he was still deep in thought. "Wait, how do you know what happened to me inside the tribulation? Why didnt you try to help me?" Rudra asked, and he was truly shocked.

[When you face tribulation, I can only spectate.]

"Huh? Why is that?" Rudra asked.

[I cannot answer that question at the moment.]

"Sigh.... At the end, tribulation is something I have to face on my own. If I can't even overcome that by myself, I will have no chance of surviving this world."
