Chapter 45 - 45

Bang, bang, bang. Sounds came from the windows outside the building. Peter operated the instrument while observing the situation there out of the corner of his eye.

A green, humanoid Dr. Lizard was seen quickly climbing up the outside wall, accompanied by the sounds of helicopters and sirens.

At this moment, Meng Ran's voice came through Peter's earpiece: "Spider, how's your antidote coming along?"

Peter continued to operate the instrument as he replied: "No problem, it's being made, estimated to need five more minutes."

Meng Ran heard this and said: "That's great. You just focus on the antidote. Gwen and I will go up and deal with that big Dr. Lizard. He's currently climbing to the top of the Osborn building, I don't know what he's planning."

Peter suddenly remembered the Canary device that Dr. Connors had once told him about. He quickly reminded Meng Ran: "Specter! He wants to use the Canary device on the rooftop to load the reagent. If he succeeds, everyone in the entire city will turn into Dr. Lizard people. You must stop him."

"Once my antidote is finished, that device can be used to cure all those who were just infected at once."

Meng Ran heard this and said seriously: "Understood!" After Peter's explanation, he also understood. He hadn't expected this big Dr. Lizard's ambitions to be so grand.

Meng Ran and Gwen were currently standing at the bottom of the Osborn building. They were rushing towards the rooftop. Their call with Peter had just ended, and Gwen had also heard Peter's words.

Gwen ran alongside Meng Ran and said: "I'll deal with this Dr. Lizard later. I think my venom should be quite effective against him."

Meng Ran shook his head and said in a deep voice: "This Dr. Lizard is a bit unusual. He's not like Blackwater's Subject One from last time; he's many times stronger than Subject One."

"Did you notice his wounds? He doesn't have any wounds now, but the machine guns on those helicopters clearly injured him just now, and he bled quite a bit. Yet, it hasn't been long, and he's already healed."

Gwen also noticed this detail after hearing Meng Ran's words, and her gaze immediately sharpened.

Meng Ran continued: "His strength is immense, and his healing ability is very strong. I estimate that the venom will be metabolized away before it can even take effect."

"I'll confront him head-on later. You find an opportunity to take the reagent out of the machine, and then once Peter has made the antidote, we'll put the antidote into the machine."

"Gwen, you're responsible for the machine. I'll deal with this big Dr. Lizard. We still don't know how strong he really is. It's safest if I go, and I also have some ideas about the healing ability he's currently displaying."

Gwen nodded upon hearing this. She knew about Meng Ran's special abilities.

Meng Ran was indeed very covetous of this big Dr. Lizard's recovery ability. If he didn't want this ability, Meng Ran would have no need to dawdle with this Dr. Lizard monster; he could just chop him down with a few cuts and be done with it.

While they were talking, the two had already reached the rooftop. The Dr. Lizard monster had also just placed the reagent into the device and started a three-minute countdown.

Meng Ran and Gwen exchanged glances, then rushed towards their respective targets. Gwen went to control the device, waiting to switch the reagent, while Meng Ran teleported directly to Dr. Lizard's face.

Dr. Lizard had just set the countdown when he saw a black figure, like a malevolent ghost, instantly appear on his face. He quickly put one hand in front of his face, and his other sharp claw swung out, grabbing towards Meng Ran.

However, his right hand swung out but did not feel any solid object.

Dr. Lizard looked up at the empty air in front of him in confusion, wondering where the figure had gone, when suddenly both of his arms felt a sharp pain.

Two streaks of blade light flashed behind him, and as the blade light appeared, Dr. Lizard's two arms fell to the ground.

It turned out that Meng Ran had only flashed in front of Dr. Lizard for a moment. After he raised his arms, Meng Ran flashed behind him again and swung his blade, cutting off his arms.

Dr. Lizard cried out in pain. Although his arms could regenerate, the pain was indeed real. He quickly rolled forward to create distance from Meng Ran, then urged his arms to regenerate.

Dr. Lizard's arms quickly stopped bleeding, and then new arms quickly grew out.

Dr. Lizard twisted his neck, his face becoming even more ferocious. A fierce light gleamed in his emerald pupils, and he let out a roar.

Meng Ran looked at Dr. Lizard's rapidly regenerating arms, his eyes gleaming: "This healing ability is too strong! I love it, I love it! I must acquire this ability today."

Dr. Lizard roared, taking the initiative to attack Meng Ran, brandishing his sharp claws, intending to tear apart this detestable enemy.

His thick, powerful lower limbs possessed strong explosive power. Dr. Lizard stomped the ground and charged towards Meng Ran.

Meng Ran looked at the charging Dr. Lizard. This speed and explosive power were indeed not enough to impress Meng Ran.

Meng Ran put away his Cloud Cutter, and both of his hands also turned into sharp claws.

"You like close combat? Then let's wrestle for a bit," Meng Ran chuckled, also charging towards Dr. Lizard.

Seeing Meng Ran rush in front of him, Dr. Lizard immediately swung his hands, his sharp claws reflecting a cold light, as if to tear apart his target, grabbing fiercely.

Just as the sharp claws were about to touch Meng Ran's body, Meng Ran suddenly squatted down, directly brandishing his sharp claws and quickly slashing across Dr. Lizard's chest.

Dr. Lizard, who was swinging his hands, had his chest attacked by a combo from Meng Ran, turning him into a bloody mess. His strong muscles were carved with wounds, oozing blood.

The intense pain made Dr. Lizard roar repeatedly. The fierce light in his eyes intensified, and he opened his large mouth to bite Meng Ran.

"Such bad breath, it's really suffocating. I recommend you use Darlie toothpaste, or maybe some Dentyne chewing gum."

After seeing Dr. Lizard's movement, Meng Ran complained while retracting his sharp claws, directly raising his leg and kicking with force. A powerful kick landed directly on Dr. Lizard's abdomen, sending him flying.

Dr. Lizard's body flew uncontrollably through the air towards the distance. Because the rooftop area was not very large, and coupled with the immense force of Meng Ran's kick, Dr. Lizard had already flown beyond the building's edge. Next, he would fall directly onto the road below the high-rise.

Just as Dr. Lizard was about to fall, several sharp tentacles shot out from Meng Ran, quickly piercing through Dr. Lizard in mid-air.

Accompanied by a sharp whooshing sound, the sharp tentacles directly pierced through Dr. Lizard's four limbs, pinning him in mid-air.

Dr. Lizard was unable to leverage himself, only able to flail his body wildly in the air in impotent rage.

Meng Ran controlled the tentacles to pull Dr. Lizard back, then retracted the tentacles that were pinning him in mid-air.

As the tentacles were pulled out, splashing blood erupted from Dr. Lizard's wounds. Losing the tentacles' hold, Dr. Lizard once again fell downwards, only this time the area below was not an empty rooftop.

Just as Dr. Lizard fell and was about to touch the rooftop, countless dark, sharp spikes suddenly erupted from the rooftop, piercing through Dr. Lizard's body.

After piercing through, the dark spikes suddenly transformed into soft tentacles. They intertwined with each other to form a giant black net. The net gradually tightened, making the wrapped Dr. Lizard unable to move, like a large black zongzi.

After controlling Dr. Lizard, Meng Ran looked towards Gwen.

Gwen had already removed the green reagent from the device, and on the other side of the building, Peter had also climbed up with the antidote.

Peter saw that Gwen had already removed the green reagent, so he leaped with both feet, landing steadily next to the device.

Then Peter loaded the antidote he was holding into the instrument. At the same time, the instrument's countdown had only one minute left.

Meng Ran looked at the remaining time, briefly explained to Gwen and Peter, and then began to prepare to replicate the ability. With one minute left, there should be enough time.

With a thought, Meng Ran tightened the black giant net that was already encasing Dr. Lizard, truly turning him into an impenetrable cocoon.

Meng Ran calmed his mind, and soon, the familiar electronic sound rang out again.

"Congratulations, host, you have acquired a new ability!"

"Acquired Super Recovery Ability! (Possesses super-fast recovery speed, slightly slower than the Dr. Lizard monster because the Dr. Lizard monster's genes have already changed.)"

Meng Ran thought to himself: "Although it's a bit inferior to that monster, it's still very powerful."

Meng Ran opened his eyes, retracted the combat suit and Venom from his left arm, revealing his arm, then pulled out his dagger and made a cut on his arm.

As Meng Ran forcefully cut with the knife, a wound immediately appeared on his arm, but before much blood could flow out, the wound already began to heal rapidly. In a few breaths, the wound disappeared, leaving only a trace of blood from when he had just cut his arm.

Meng Ran experienced the new ability, unable to hide his joy. This ability could be said to be the best he had acquired recently, the other being teleportation.

Just as Meng Ran had finished absorbing the ability, the Canary device not far away also completed its countdown.

As the device sprayed the antidote upwards, a mysterious blue cloud formed in the sky. It was dusk, and the sun was setting. All the citizens would never forget this unique sunset.

As the clouds churned, specks of blue light descended. Those who had been infected by Dr. Lizard's spray gradually shed their monstrous appearance and returned to human form.

The now unbound Dr. Lizard also lay on the ground. The blue light fell upon him, gradually helping him shed his monstrous form. His emerald eyes gradually returned to a clear blue, and his frantic expression slowly disappeared.

Dr. Connors lay naked and dazed on the ground, processing the tumultuous memories in his mind.

After a while, he gradually understood what he had done before. He propped himself up with his left arm, staggered to his feet, and swayed towards the edge of the building.

Meng Ran stood still, quietly watching Dr. Connors. Gwen and Peter also walked over and stood with Meng Ran, watching Dr. Connors walk towards the edge of the building.

Dr. Connors was almost at the edge of the building when he suddenly seemed to remember something, turned his head, looked at them, and said in a deep voice: "Could you give me some clothes?"

Upon hearing this, Meng Ran took a set of clothes from his space and threw them to Dr. Connors.

"Thank you." Dr. Connors took the clothes and put them on. He was quickly dressed. After putting on his clothes, he continued to walk towards the edge of the building.

Finally, Dr. Connors stood at the edge of the rooftop.

"Dr. Connors, it's not entirely your fault," Peter said to Dr. Connors, who stood at the edge of the building with his back to them.

Dr. Connors turned his head upon hearing this, looked at Peter, shook his head, and smiled gently: "No, it's my fault. Perhaps I should have died a long time ago."

After speaking, Dr. Connors turned his back to them again, then spread his arms and plunged downwards from the building.

Then, a dull thud echoed, and Dr. Connors was gone.
