Chapter 44 - 44

While Dr. Connors was rushing to the bridge, Meng Ran and the others had just arrived at school and were in class.

A moment later, Meng Ran suddenly heard a reminder from Xiao Bai in his mind.

"Emergency! A Lizard monster has appeared on the Brooklyn Bridge, destroying vehicles and harming people on the bridge."

Upon hearing Xiao Bai's message, Meng Ran looked up with a serious expression. Gwen, Peter, and Mary Jane also looked up simultaneously, as they too had received the message. Their gazes met.

Just then, the class ended, and the bell for dismissal rang. Meng Ran and the others gathered together.

Meng Ran whispered, "There's only one monster, so it's not a huge problem. Peter and I will rush over now. You two continue with class and, in the meantime, figure out where this monster came from and if there's any data on it."

Too much time had passed, and Meng Ran's memories of Marvel movies were already a bit hazy.

Regarding Spider-Man, he had only seen the latest version, in which the villain was a winged man.

Moreover, through his observations during this period, he found that the world he had lived in for over a decade seemed a bit different from the movies he watched in his previous life. So, to be safe, it was better to investigate more.

The others nodded in agreement. Gwen seemed a bit uninterested but still nodded. Although she also wanted to fight the monster, with Peter and Meng Ran going, there shouldn't be any problems. She would stay at school with Mary Jane and investigate with Xiao Bai.

After finalizing the plan, Meng Ran and Peter quietly slipped out of school, then swiftly headed towards the bridge with Peter.

With Meng Ran's teleportation, the two quickly arrived at the bridge. They stood at a high point on the bridge, observing the situation on the road below while searching for traces of the monster.

"Xiao Bai, see where that monster is," Meng Ran said to Xiao Bai, while he and Peter began to rescue those who were injured or trapped or crushed by cars.

Xiao Bai quickly responded, "The Lizard monster pushed a black Mercedes sedan off the bridge and then left the bridge. Because he avoided cameras, his current location cannot be determined."

Meng Ran felt a bit regretful upon hearing this. They were still a step too late; Dr. Lizard had already escaped, and there was no way to find his tracks now.

Peter also received the information and expressed his regret that they couldn't deal with the monster in one go. He wondered how many more people would suffer if it appeared again.

However, he always had a familiar feeling about that monster, as if he knew him.

Without time to continue thinking, Meng Ran and Peter immediately began a non-stop rescue operation. While saving people, they analyzed information about the Lizard monster based on the traces left at the scene.

This monster had great strength and was not small in size, and it also had sharp claws. Many cars on the bridge had been overturned by him, and several had even been pushed into the water below the bridge. It was estimated that there were no survivors.

After Meng Ran and Spider-Man had been busy for a while, the police also arrived at the scene. Everyone worked without communication but with a tacit understanding, separately rescuing the injured.

When everything was over, the two returned to school. After returning, they were called in by a teacher for skipping class. If it weren't for Meng Ran and Peter's good academic performance and their good attitude in admitting their mistake, the teacher probably would have called their parents for a talk.

In a sewer in New York, Dr. Connors had reverted to human form and was sprawled on the ground, his tattered clothes barely covering his body. Traces of green still lingered on his face and in his eyes.

Dr. Connors felt as if he had touched a wonderful, magical realm. The sense of power and the desire for evolution deeply attracted him. Although he was now helplessly collapsed on the ground, his expression was so excited and frenzied.

Dr. Connors felt he still needed more reagents, a lot of reagents.

He wanted to increase the dosage of the reagents; he wanted to evolve to a higher level of life.

Not only that, but he also wanted everyone to enter that realm together, to achieve evolution, to allow everyone to be free from illness and suffering.

The more Dr. Connors thought about it, the more excited he became, and the more he felt he was on the right path. He struggled to support his body with his left arm, staggering to his feet.

He decided to return to Osborn Corporation to get more reagents, and that machine, the Ganali Device. With that machine, he could turn everyone in the city into his kind, allowing them to evolve their lives just like him.

Dr. Connors stumbled forward, his figure gradually disappearing into the darkness of the dim sewer.

In the secret base, Meng Ran's professional team was currently troubled by the sudden appearance of this monster. Where did this monster come from? When did such a figure appear in New York, and why was there no news at all?

The few of them were looking at the data, analyzing effective information. Peter, looking at the data and then at the photos of the strange man, always felt like he had forgotten something.

"Lizard… strange man," Peter mumbled. He suddenly remembered the research he and Dr. Connors had been doing earlier. That research focused on the limb regeneration characteristics of lizards, aiming to allow humans to possess such abilities, thereby giving new life to those with amputated limbs.

The more Peter thought about it, the more plausible it seemed, so he quickly shared his discovery.

Meng Ran and the others were also shocked by Peter's words. The research project Peter participated in was so powerful and had such magical functions. Most importantly, they had succeeded in their white mouse experiments, which meant the project was very feasible.

Meng Ran pondered for a moment and said to Peter, "So, Peter, do you mean you want to go to Osborn Group to check the situation?"

Peter nodded and said, "That's right. Because I participated in this project before, I can get in, and I also understand this project quite well. If anything happens, I'll be able to tell."

After hearing Peter's words, everyone felt he made sense, so the final decision was for Peter to go to Osborn Group to investigate the situation.

Then Meng Ran and Gwen would wander the city on alert, to prevent any sudden emergencies. Mary Jane would stay here with Xiao Bai to analyze data, provide communication, and guidance.

After finalizing the plan, the group prepared to split up. Before leaving, Meng Ran took out a liquid sphere (combat suit) and handed it to Peter. After hearing Meng Ran's introduction of the sphere's features and functions, Peter eagerly pricked his finger.

After preparing the sphere, Peter's thoughts moved, and a new combat suit appeared on his body. Its appearance was no different from the previous one, but its quality was, of course, far superior.

Peter was very grateful to Meng Ran for giving him this sphere, because it was really too convenient, and it also saved him the trouble of washing clothes. Heaven knew how desperate he was when his clothes were dyed red and blue.

A tearfully grateful Peter immediately decided to give Meng Ran a rare LEGO set as a thank you later. Meng Ran refused no matter what, and finally had to agree, though he didn't know how long it would take to build this LEGO.

After Peter and Meng Ran's group separated, Peter arrived at Osborn Group. When he saw the research lab, which had been thoroughly cleaned, he suddenly felt a bad premonition.

Peter continued further inside and saw the emptied reagent cabinet, and Freddy, the white mouse whose leg had regenerated earlier. It had mutated, its eyes blood-red, and it was tearing at half the body of another white mouse.

He could now confirm that something had indeed gone wrong with the doctor and his research, which was why the Lizard monster had appeared.

Just then, Peter received a message from Mary Jane.

"The Lizard monster has appeared on Fifth Avenue. He used a green spray to infect many people. Meng Ran is rushing there. He wants you to think of a way to counteract the effects of that green agent."

Upon receiving the message, Peter began to think of a solution. He could make an antidote, but that required some green reagents.

Just as Peter was thinking about what to do, he suddenly saw a bottle of green reagent rolling under a table. He quickly retrieved the reagent from under the table and immediately began to make an antidote using the nearby equipment.

At this moment, loud thuds came from the windows outside the building.
