Chapter 153 - Chapter 152: Thor? You? Impotence?

Despite the wind and rain battering New Mexico, Thor's mischievous grin never faltered. He strode toward Mjolnir.

He circled the hammer several times, rain soaking his long hair, dripping down his face.

With a confident grin, he reached out and tried to lift it.

Nothing.

Mjolnir didn't budge, as if it no longer recognized its master.

Thor's smile froze into awkward politeness. Thankfully, no one saw him fail; otherwise, he would have been utterly humiliated.

"Hey, Mjolnir, stop fooling around! We need to go!"

Thor spoke to the hammer as if it had a mind of its own, which left Coulson, Hawkeye, and other Agents utterly confused.

Wait… have we been watching a lunatic for half a day?

"Coulson, I think we might have been wrong," one Agent whispered.

"I agree. That long-haired guy is definitely… unwell."

"Should we grab him now?"

"Yeah, send him to a mental hospital!"

The Agents grinned, realizing they'd been played for a joke. Half a day wasted watching this performance—it was hilarious.

"Wait a bit longer," Coulson said in a low voice.

The others hesitated. Despite Thor's apparent madness, Coulson sensed there was more to the man. Madmen don't usually act with such purpose.

Taking a deep breath, Thor clenched his fists and blew on them, psyching himself up. This time, he meant business.

He grabbed Mjolnir's handle with both hands, leaning back with all his might.

Once! Twice! Thrice!

His muscles bulged, veins popping, face red from exertion. He strained with every ounce of his being.

"Ugh!!! Ah!!!"

But Mjolnir remained unmoved, standing silently in the pouring rain.

Thor finally understood.

He was abandoned. Asgard no longer needed him. His father had forsaken him. His arrogance, foolishness, and disrespect had all caught up to him.

Thump!

Thor fell to his knees, rain soaking him. He raised his head and let out a howl of frustration and grief, eyes bloodshot.

"Ah!!!"

"Why!? Why!!"

"Why is this happening!?"

A mix of unwillingness, anger, helplessness, and loss twisted his features. He was lost, powerless—no longer Thor, no longer the Thunder God.

Onlookers were moved by the raw emotion, though they couldn't understand why.

Coulson, analyzing the scene, remained calm. He took out his walkie-talkie:

"Alright, show's over. Ground forces, move in."

Hawkeye stowed his bow, and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents slowly approached, handcuffs ready.

Thor allowed it silently, eyes fixed on Mjolnir.

Do what you want. I've given up.

Hidden in Dimensional Space, Leo observed quietly. This was Thor's path. Sometimes, one must endure rain to see the rainbow.

Without hardship, no growth.

Thor, a god dependent on his hammer, was powerless without it. To awaken true strength, he had to first face failure.

"Thor, this is your path. A little hardship won't hurt."

With that, Leo vanished.

Inside a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Thor was locked up. Coulson approached to interrogate him.

"You made my team—the world's best-trained operatives—look like mall security guards. You disappoint me greatly.

Only someone with comparable skill could do that. Where did you train? Bajikistan? Chechnya? Afu Khan?"

Thor remained silent, expressionless. Coulson's headache grew.

"Who… are you?"

Thor finally glanced at him but stayed silent.

Suddenly, a shadow flickered. Loki appeared.

"Loki! What are you doing here?"

"I had to see you," Loki said, feigning sorrow. Thor's expression turned serious.

"What happened?"

"Is it Jotunheim?"

"Let me explain to Father."

Loki continued, with fake grief: "Father is dead."

Thor's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Wh… what?"

"Your banishment. The threat of a new war… he couldn't bear it."

Thor's light dimmed; tears welled up. Father is dead… all because of me! My arrogance! My stupidity! My sin!

"Don't blame yourself," Loki whispered.

"I know you loved him. I wanted to tell him too, but he wouldn't listen. It's cruel to place the hammer before you, knowing you can't lift it."

Thor's pain deepened. Salt rubbed into the wound.

"The burden of the throne now falls on me," Loki added, his cunning grin hidden in shadows.

Too easy, Loki thought. The big oaf Thor would never see it coming. By the time he realized, Loki would sit firmly on Asgard's throne.

Hahaha! Thor, my dear brother!

You idiot, stay in Midgard!
