Leo's words were calm, his voice soft, yet like a giant rock falling into a tranquil lake, sending ripples through the deadened heart of Steve.
Upon receiving Leo's affirmative reply, Steve's heart fluttered wildly! His heart thumped violently, the rhythm so strong that Leo could feel it come alive.
Steve didn't hesitate for even a fraction of a second.
"As long as I can see Bucky again, I will have no regrets—even if I fall into Hell!"
He had long since abandoned all desires and grievances.
He no longer hated anyone, owed anyone. His heart had always wavered between Howard and Bucky; now it was free.
The torment of the past few days had almost driven him mad. But now, Bucky had repaid his life to Howard.
The two were even; Steve owed nothing, and could face Howard and himself with a clear conscience.
As for Peggy, they would never meet again—they owed nothing to each other. Half a century had passed; both had lived without regrets.
He had reconciled with himself, forgiven himself, and freed himself. From now on, his heart was unbound.
Everything could be considered a relatively perfect ending. No one owed anyone anything. All grievances were settled.
Leo was satisfied. Resolving the resentment of the living and the grievances of the dead could be considered complete.
He gazed toward a distant kingdom beyond the void, at an ancient castle.
"Hmph! Mephisto, do you still need me to personally invite you?"
A faint, cold snort pierced the spatial barrier, resonating in the mind of the Hell Lord, startling him immensely.
This person's power was incredible—so strong!
Mephisto did not yet know that Leo was already the Master of the Multiverse Space Stone. To him, the entire universe was merely a small pond.
As an Earthly avatar, Mephisto could only use spatial teleportation to obediently appear.
"Respected Earthling strongman, this is our first meeting. Please forgive me for such abrupt intrusion."
Circumstances were against him, so Mephisto immediately adopted a humble stance.
One doesn't strike a smiling face; this avatar had to be preserved.
The current Earth was more than ten times harder to invade than before.
Previously, Kamar-Taj had stood in the way, requiring meticulous planning over a thousand years.
Now, his plans were useless. Earth was impregnable.
He treaded cautiously, fearing this avatar would perish instantly.
Leo noted his gentlemanly facade and English aristocratic hypocrisy, choosing not to make things difficult.
They had no direct conflict, and such a cunning fellow could prove useful later.
He smiled slightly.
"Mephisto, I hear you've been using the Saint Vangonsa Contract to collect Earthling souls, haven't you? And then, you old man, plan to summon your true body to devour Earth? Quite bold!"
Leo asserted his dominance, intimidating the insidious Hell Lord.
As expected, Mephisto broke into a cold sweat, eyes darting about, trying to make excuses.
"Sir, what are you saying? I'm not here to devour Earth. When people die, their souls must find peace, right? As a Hell Lord, I provide a dwelling place for their souls. I am serving the masses—I am good, very, very good!"
"Everything you've heard is slander, malicious defamation! Jealousy of my good deeds!"
He spoke eloquently, filled with grievance, portraying himself as a charitable philanthropist.
"Enough! Stop boasting."
Leo glanced at him. "Don't play the victim or the saint in front of me. I know what you've done. For example, your son, doesn't he oppose you? And you still haven't obtained the Vangonsa Contract, have you?"
"You!!!"
Mephisto's face turned pale. He retreated several steps, staring at Leo in terror.
"What 'me what'?"
Leo chuckled.
Suddenly, Mephisto sighed in despair.
"This is a secret of our Hell lineage; only my son and I know it."
"I didn't expect you to know. Is this some ability to foresee the future or know the past?"
Mephisto despaired. This Earthly avatar was too powerful; he could crush him like an ant.
If his true body had descended, he might have stood a chance. Now, he was powerless.
Leo nodded in response to Mephisto's stunned question, confirming he knew most of Marvel's secrets.
"Ah, well, go ahead."
Mephisto had lost all will to resist. A thousand years of planning scattered in an instant.
"Kill you? Why would I? What's the point? If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't waste so much breath talking to you."
Leo exhaled in exasperation. This guy's overthinking was terrifying.
"Really? You won't kill me?"
Mephisto was overjoyed; better to live a wretched life than die and see his thousand-year plan wasted.
"Of course it's true. I called you here because I want you to take Steve to Hell to reunite with Bucky. That's it."
Leo's goal was more than that, but he couldn't explicitly reveal it.
Mephisto nodded repeatedly, amazed. "Don't worry about this small matter. Leave it to me."
A godsend—his life was spared, his plan preserved, and the demon Steve's power would be in his hands. Three blessings at once.
At that moment, Mephisto remembered something and quietly said, as if taking credit, "Let me tell you, those from the Time Variance Authority are still monitoring your movements.
If you catch them, you can learn the spatiotemporal coordinates of the TVA. I will be your vanguard to conquer them in one fell swoop!"
Mephisto thus betrayed his closest teammates. Utterly ruthless, the cunning Hell Lord was capable of anything.
Leo glanced at him. This schemer wanted to plunder abandoned timelines via the TVA to strengthen Hell.
But it would serve Leo's purposes sooner or later, regardless.
