I forced myself to stand even though my legs trembled beneath me. The numbness that had settled in my chest slowly transformed into something wild and uncontrolled. Laughter bubbled up from somewhere deep inside me, harsh and bitter.
"You've lost your mind, Solace. Now you're making up stories about my child?"
"Walk over here and see for yourself if you think I'm lying. The only problem is everyone will witness the truth. Think about it carefully. You're a Siphon. Your daughter had every chance of inheriting that curse. Maybe it would have been Bruce instead if he'd been born female."
"No. You're lying to me."
"I saw everything that day. I was taking a phone call around the corner when I heard screaming from your room. I went to investigate and found Rosalyn Siphoning the Luna because she wanted to save you. She told me later that she acted purely on instinct and had no idea what she was doing. By the time I could stop her, the Luna was already dead."
