TONIA's POV

Words caught in my throat as I stared at Kermit. The way he phrased his request made my pulse quicken. He wanted me here, even if he wouldn't say it directly.

My silence stretched between us until Rosalyn jumped into another topic, mercifully steering the conversation away from my decision to stay.

So I remained.

The twins and I settled into the home theater, where we watched movies on what could only be described as a personal cinema. Trust Kermit to have something this extravagant built right into his house.

Both children dozed off halfway through our second film. I carefully lifted each one, carrying them to their respective bedrooms. After tucking them under their covers and making sure they were comfortable, I headed toward the doorway.

My heart nearly stopped when I found Kermit there, his broad frame filling the entrance as he leaned against it.

That man needed to wear a bell or something.

"Nice work." He nodded toward the sleeping children.
