Tonia's POV

"Tonia. Tonia! Wake up, sleepyhead!" A harsh shake against my shoulder jolted me from sleep.

My eyelids cracked open but snapped shut immediately as piercing sunlight assaulted my vision.

"Open your damn eyes, will you?"

Lucien's familiar voice cut through the fog in my brain.

I forced my eyes open again, squinting against the brutal brightness flooding my bedroom.

"The windows," I groaned. "Please close them."

"Hell no. They're staying wide open until you drag yourself out of that bed. What are you, five years old?"

My palm pressed against my burning forehead. God, was I running a fever?

"My head feels like it's splitting open," I whimpered.

The throbbing was relentless. It felt like someone was using my skull as a drum.

"That's what happens when you drink yourself stupid all night long."

I managed to focus on Lucien through my blurry vision. He stood at the foot of my bed, arms crossed, glaring at me like a disapproving parent.
