Tonia's POV
This man had an infuriating effect on me that I desperately wished would disappear. Every time Kermit came near, my entire body betrayed me. Heat would flood through me one moment, then leave me shivering the next. Worse still, he invaded my dreams with images I had no business imagining.
Living like this felt pathetic. Especially knowing he would never belong to me.
"Hi." I kept my gaze fixed on the floor, gripping the door handle tighter than necessary.
Looking directly into Kermit's eyes felt like staring into the sun.
"You're back," he said.
I managed only a nod. His statement didn't require an answer anyway.
"I trust your room remained exactly as you left it?" His voice carried an unusual gentleness, nothing like the arrogant tone I'd grown accustomed to. This softer version reminded me of those precious moments we'd shared at the vacation house.
"Yes. Thank you."
