Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Manhattan Main Battlefield and Queens Sub-Battlefield

Hawk ultimately suppressed the fiery excitement within him and chose not to join the fray on the Manhattan main battlefield.

The Leviathan beast, a biological warfare fortress of the Chitauri, roared out of the space portal.

Its sprawling body was incredibly massive, and its entire being was covered in a thick layer of heavy alloy armor.

Setting aside whether he could defeat a Leviathan beast, just its sheer size made them seem like a creature from the ground versus one from the sky.

Besides.

If he had a Saint Cloth, Hawk might have run to the main battlefield to join the fun.

For now, forget it.

Anyway, there were Chitauri soldiers in Queens, resembling locusts swarming, so there was no need to rush to Manhattan.

That was the battlefield for the original Avengers, not his.

He had gotten stronger.

But he had only gotten stronger.

The awakening of the Small Universe was just the beginning, a starting point.

Not the end, nor the destination.

So...

Hawk went nowhere, not even choosing to proactively attack. Instead, he squatted by his doorstep, waiting like a hunter for prey.

He sat and waited for the Chitauri soldiers rampaging nearby to receive news of their comrades' deaths and come to assist, essentially delivering themselves into his trap.

This was much easier than actively seeking them out.

After all, Chitauri soldiers could fly, but he couldn't.

The most important point.

His apartment block was a slum area.

What does that mean, a slum?

Let's put it this way.

It would take an ambulance at least half an hour to reach their block from the moment the call was received, whereas in Manhattan's wealthy districts, it would take as little as three minutes.

The same applied to surveillance.

If a trash can in an alley in a rich neighborhood had a dedicated surveillance camera pointed at it, then the main roads in the slum areas had no surveillance cameras at all.

Even if there were, they wouldn't last until the next day; by that very night, a few small-time criminals would find a way to dismantle them and sell them for cash.

Soon.

Standing in the shadow corner, Hawk saw two Chitauri soldiers whiz past from not far away.

They had received news of their comrades' deaths and were flying over on their hovercrafts.

Hawk's eyes lit up.

Two minutes later.

"Thud!"

"Thud!"

On the ruins of the apartment building, two more bodies were added next to the two ugly corpses that Hawk had neatly arranged earlier, making sure the Chitauri soldiers could see them.

Upon sensing the death of their pilots, the two equally ugly hovercrafts automatically turned and flew off in one direction.

Hawk watched this scene, then silently retreated back into the shadow corner.

One minute later.

Upon detecting a surge in Chitauri soldier deaths in Queens, a signal was emitted from the Chitauri battleship within the wormhole above Manhattan.

The next moment.

Several Chitauri soldiers who had been firing at full power, hissing and cackling, wantonly destroying buildings, vehicles, and slaughtering Earthlings nearby, all turned around simultaneously. After receiving the signal, they quickly gathered towards the roar that had just echoed over Jackson Heights.

They had received orders to engage in combat there.

The Chitauri soldiers roared, gathering behind their leader, who was taller and stronger than the other Chitauri soldiers, and even whose hovercraft looked more menacing than theirs.

Led by him, they arrived above the street block.

Instantly.

They saw the mangled bodies of four comrades sitting in a row, laid out on the apartment ruins.

"Squeak squeak squeak!"

"Hiss hiss hiss."

The moment they saw their comrades' bodies, the Chitauri soldier captain and the six Chitauri soldiers seemed to freeze in place.

The next second.

They seemed to recover, as if receiving new orders, and their hovercrafts once again started up.

In a blink of an eye, the Chitauri soldier captain and the six Chitauri soldiers quickly spread out, then formed a circle around the street below.

Then, with emotionless, snake-like eyes, and without any hesitation, they pulled the triggers of the energy cannons on their hovercrafts.

Like cold biological weapons.

In an instant.

Energy blasts rained down, like a net cast from the heavens, delivering a blanket bombardment upon the street below.

Boom!

Boom!

Boom!

Buildings in the block exploded, roads cracked, and vehicles on the street continuously blew up and caught fire.

Circling the block, the Chitauri soldiers firing in unison from the sky were expressionless, like machines.

Their clawed fingers held the triggers without release, until the entire block was engulfed in smoke and dust from the bombardment, until all the energy blasts from their hovercrafts were depleted, until the Chitauri captain was the first to stop.

Only then did they all, like precise machines, release their clawed grips from the triggers.

At this moment, the entire block had completely turned into ruins.

Old apartment buildings continuously crumbling.

Burning vehicles, with explosions occasionally ringing out.

Currently, this place resembled Iraq after being ravaged by war more than Iraq itself.

The Chitauri captain, sitting on his hovercraft, whose large green eyes were also bigger than others, once again scanned the seemingly quiet, deserted block.

Only then did he retract his gaze, having received the latest orders, preparing to withdraw from here.

Under such a powerful, sweeping attack by their Chitauri soldiers, no life could possibly survive by chance.

Especially these low-level life forms on Earth who couldn't even leave their own planet.

So...

The Chitauri alien mothership, responsible for controlling and issuing orders from the wormhole, conveyed the latest commands to the Chitauri captain through the Chitauri soldiers' vision.

As the Chitauri captain turned, the six Chitauri soldiers also turned their hovercrafts.

But just as these six Chitauri soldiers were turning around one by one, abruptly, the body of one of their comrades on a hovercraft arched backward as if it were a cooked shrimp, but forward, accompanied by a wet squelch, and the armor-clad chest instantly exploded open.

The next second.

One, two, three, four, five.

The remaining five Chitauri soldiers hadn't even had time to react before meeting the same fate as the Chitauri soldier before them.

The moment they turned their backs to the street, their chests exploded open, leaving a fist-sized hole.

Their chests were torn from back to front, looking as if someone had punched straight through their chest from behind.

Almost at the exact moment the chests of the six Chitauri soldiers exploded, six thunderous punch sounds just then burst forth!

"Boom, boom, boom!"

"Boom, boom, boom!"

The Chitauri captain, who was sitting on his hovercraft and turning as his six team members' chests exploded, heard the blasting sounds in his ears.

His head mechanically lifted, and he leaped directly to the right, jumping off the hovercraft without any hesitation.

The next moment.

His personalized hovercraft, which looked even more menacing than the others, seemed to be hit by something, exploding in mid-air with a resounding crash.

Boom!
