Chapter 31 - Chapter 30 — The Choice That Lingers

Lana's POV

Kelvin left an hour ago.

But his words didn't.

"People don't leave because they stopped loving…

they leave because they don't know how to stay without breaking."

I sat by the window, watching the city lights flicker like distant memories.

Everything felt slower here.

Quieter.

Safer.

But also… emptier.

My phone rested beside me.

Silent now.

Leo had stopped texting.

That hurt more than I expected.

So this is it?

He just… stops?

I shook my head, annoyed at myself.

You're the one who left.

Still…

A small part of me hoped—

No.

I shut that thought down immediately.

A new notification popped up.

Not Leo.

Unknown number.

I hesitated.

Then opened it.

Unknown: You really think leaving him will fix things?

My heart dropped.

Unknown: Or are you just making it easier for me?

My fingers went cold.

Mick.

Me: What do you want?

The reply came instantly.

Mick: Nothing. Just watching.

Mick: You two are doing a great job destroying yourselves.

Anger flared.

Me: Stay out of my life.

Mick: Too late.

Mick: You were part of it the moment you chose him.

My chest tightened.

Mick: Tell me something, Lana…

Mick: Does he even know what I'm planning?

I froze.

Planning?

Before I could reply—

Another message.

Mick: Guess not.

Mick: That's what happens when trust breaks.

The screen dimmed.

And suddenly, the room didn't feel safe anymore.

What is he planning?

And why do I feel like I just made the biggest mistake?

Miles away—

Someone was playing a game.

And I was still part of it.

Whether I wanted to be or not.
