Chapter 3 - Mirror

[After the Almighty god assimilated, many creatures started to awaken their powers. In human terms, these powers are called attributes. Humans who unlocked attributes are known as Ascenders. Though times and the general changes occur to the population, the number of Ascenders is nearly 10% of the entire population. The attributes of two humans can share the same abilities, but they're never the same. Each attribute differs from one another in the way and style an individual can use it. ]

'So simply, there are a large number of colourful inks, but some may have the same ink, but the handwriting may differ.'

[Humans manipulated different fundamentals of nature and were able to survive against the other races, which were gifted their immense strength and bodies. Humans also used their attributes to solve hunger and improve the standard of living. ]

'Standard of living? What a joke. From what I've seen, there's not even a single instance of electricity. Maybe I'll 'invent' electricity and get RICH. Haha....but there could be individuals with electrical powers too.'

[ With great power comes a responsibility to use it efficiently and actually learn the powers. The attributes may differ from one another, but this book is a comprehensive guide to using attributes.]

'Let's read it'

[With great power, people feel intoxicated and try to bully other huma-]

'I don't care'

Blaine quickly flips several pages of the book.

[ People must learn to serve the kingdom- ]

'Is the book entirely a child's moral book?'

Blaine closes the book.

'Well, it's time to sleep, but where is Dorian's room?'

***

The sun rises.

Blaine wakes up in Dorian's room. Last night, Blaine had paced himself around the entire mansion to search for Dorian's room.

'Well, I have about two weeks remaining before I turn 18 and awaken an attribute. I might not awaken it either because only 10% of the entire population actually unlock it. If I don't unlock the attribute, it's still okay. Making gunpowder shouldn't be too hard. I'll construct an attribute of my own with science.'

Blaine eats breakfast with his father and immediately paces himself towards the study room.

Every single day, Blaine was out of the study room only to eat with Dorian's father and sleep.

In the meeting hall of the mansion.

"Do you think my son can become an Ascender?"

"He is a hard worker, Sir. I think he will indeed become an Ascender. He has been studying relentlessly in his study room," said the curly-moustached butler.

"I hope so", Dorian's father spoke with a frown.

***

It has been two weeks since Blaine glued himself to the study room, just reading books. Today's the day, he gains his attribute.

'Finally, the day has arrived'

Blaine was excited and was extremely fearful that he wouldn't be an Ascender.

"Come, Dorian, father is waiting for you"

Dorian's father was waiting for him at the front door of the mansion. His father had a soft smile and truly looked at Blaine as though he was proud of Blaine, not as Blaine but as Dorian.

Blaine had spent a long time with Blaine's father. The more he interacted with Dorian's father, the more Blaine felt a sense of remorse. Blaine was acting as his son; it was truly messed up.

'If only Blaine's father knew his son had killed himself.'

Blaine returned the smile to Dorian's father as he walked down the stairs, but deep within, Blaine knew him taking another person's body and his entire identity was a fucked up thing.

Blaine and Dorian's father exited the mansion.

Blaine had not yet stepped out of the mansion since he transmigrated, and today would be the day that he would finally step out. He had indeed seen the area around the mansion through the window, but this was the first time he felt the breeze of a new world.

Blaine took a deep breath.

"Dorian, come fast. We'll be late"

Dorian's father was seated in a carriage. Instead of a horse, the carriage was more like an old car. Blaine, having read several books, knew that this carriage was one of the many inventions by humans using their attributes. Its wheels are powered by the wind.

Blaine stepped into the large wind-powered carriage. Dorian's father was seated opposite him.

The curly-moustached butler was seated towards the other section of the carriage. He was the one who was directing the carriage.

The carriage started to move. It was insanely fast.

Blaine looked out of the window.

He saw several other carriages on the road. The other carriages were several times smaller than the carriage on which Blaine was.

'I truly like the feeling of being a rich spoiled brat'

The road was longer in breadth, and several other carriages were moving about. There was not a single congestion of carriages.

Blaine stared out of the window for the entire journey.

The city was charming.

These past few weeks, Blaine has learnt many interesting concepts about this world.

Everything in this world was different from Blaine's old world. Everything and anything that was done in this world was executed in the most efficient way possible.

People's opinion?

It's not an opinion if it isn't statistical and factual.

The roads were built longer, the housing system, the government offices and not to mention the use of attributes.

Blaine was not surprised.

'It's a crime if it wasn't the case, godly powers given to cavemen. Who would guess how they turned out?

After travelling through half the city, the carriage finally stopped.

"We've arrived, Dorian. This is the place where several tears are shed. Tears of both joy and sadness."

Blaine stepped out of the carriage and saw a massive building.

"Ascender Union"

'What a shitty name, and why do I feel so nervous?'

[Blaine...promise me]

Just then, Blaine heard someone speak; it was the memory of his first life.

"Come"

Blaine and Dorian's father both entered through the entrance. They were escorted by a red-haired female attendant. She was drop-dead stunning. Her face was like a statue.

"Young man, we are here"

Blaine stopped staring at her and moved forward.

After walking through the building, they arrived at the destination.

"TESTING ZONE"

"Ah, when will this start?"

Blaine looked around.

'A big kingdom it really is. Dorian shares a birthday with these people.'

A very old man with the most white hair stood on the podium in front of the testing zone. The words that he spoke resounded through the hall.

"Welcome, everyone. I am the supervisor for the testing zone. The test will begin now. Before that, I want to request you all, there is more to life than being an Ascender. Countless individuals have tried to do so, but they have not succeeded. It doesn't define who you are."

'No, it really definitely matters. Even so, for me'
