Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 - Garden Guardian

"The Mysterious Garden…" he whispered.

Stopping his steps, William looked at this peaceful habitat. He did not presumptuously enter and disturb them. Instead, he took out his binoculars and, with the lingering glow of the sunset, carefully observed the situation inside.

After scanning a few times, he aimed his binoculars at a Bulbasaur and its kin.

In terms of appearance, Bulbasaur is a quadruped Pokémon, like a green frog. Besides its bright red eyes and dark green markings, its most prominent feature is the garlic-shaped bud on its back.

These Bulbasaur and Ivysaur were clearly unaware of William and his pokemon's arrival, but because there were so many of them, it was easy to get dizzy. And it was difficult to discern their personalities just from their appearance. Therefore, after observing for a while, William's gaze was Lock-On to a Ivysaur that had just walked out of the basin.

Perhaps because no one had intruded here for a long time, this Ivysaur was looking very leisurely at the moment. It occasionally used Vine Whip to pick berries from the trees and tasted them, quickly moving away from its group. It is the only one who has the potential to be the Alpha pokemon.

William decides that particular Ivysaur will be going to be in his team. He also knows something is watching his team every movements which started when William and his pokemons arrived here.

'I can't catch that Ivysaur now. Let start the plan B.'

With that William looks at his pokemons who's also waiting for his commands and nods his head.

William and his pokemons stepped inside carefully. It was like walking into a dream.

Dozens of Pokémon moved freely. Bellsprout and Gloom among vines, Lombre resting by the pond, even a Lurantis sunbathing under a beam of filtered light.

When William arrived at the center of the Garden, the chilling sensations suddenly felt and he carefully looked at the deep dense alley which is covered in all kinds of trees and flowers.

Eevee and Nidoran froze in awe. Kirlia looked around, her psychic aura trembling. Electabuzz is looking with full fighting spirit.

Then, deeper within the valley, something stirred.

A colossal figure moved from the shadows which is the Alpha level Venusaur, its flower glimmering like dawn and dusk combined.

Its eyes opened slowly, ancient and wise.

William stopped several meters away, bowing his head slightly in respect.

"Guardian of the Garden," he said quietly. "I don't want to intrude. I'm just here for studying and some adventures."

Kirlia stepped forward, her eyes glowing blue.

Through her, Venusaur's deep, resonant voice echoed directly in William's mind.

"You are not like the others. You speak with your heart. So, human. What do you want?"

"I only want to ask for permission," William replied in thought. "To invite one of your kin to travel with me."

Venusaur stares directly to William's eyes and the silence is so much for William's pokemons.

Suddenly, the Guardian Venusaur sighed heavily and said through Kirlia telepathy.

"I can see you are not someone who is going to abandon his pokemons. You had some kind of strange aura around you. How intriguing. Whatever I am too old to care. So, you can ask the permission from the pokemon who you wanted for your journey."

With that William looks at the Ivysaur who is also looking at him with interest. William slowly walks towards him and said.

"Do you want to go out of here and travel around the world? There's many things which you didn't see yet and I can also make you one of the strongest species. So, are you interested?"

The Ivysaur took a step forward, vines twitching eagerly.

"If your Pokémon can defeat me," it said telepathically through Kirlia, "I'll go with you. I also want to see the world outside this garden."

William smiled faintly. "Then let's make it a fair battle. Kirlia, please."

With that Kirlia stepped up gracefully and looks at Ivysaur with calm expression.

The air shimmered with green light. Sunbeams filtered through the towering canopy of the Mysterious Garden, painting the grass in soft hues of emerald and gold. Dozens of Grass-type Pokémon peeked out from the foliage. Bellsprout, Chikorita, even a shy Roselia are all watching in silence as the challenger from the outside stood on the moss-covered clearing.

Ivysaur stepped forward, leaves flexing, flower bud glowing faintly. His gaze was calm yet firm, like a veteran defending sacred ground.

Across from him, Kirlia stood poised, her dress-like form rippling in the faint breeze, psychic aura pulsing with soft violet light.

William exhaled slowly. "Kirlia," he called, voice steady. "Let's show him how strong you are."

"Kirlia!"

Her eyes flared with ready for battle.

Ivysaur crouched, vines twitching like coiled serpents. Venusaur gave a low rumble from his perch, signaling the start.

Ivysaur's vines lashed forward which is the move "Vine Whip!". It is striking fast with precision.

"Dodge and counter with Confusion!" William called out.

Kirlia twirled aside, one vine grazing her shoulder. She winced but swung her arm, psychic waves blasting through the air. The attack struck Ivysaur mid-motion, flinging him back across the grass.

Ivysaur rolled, planted his feet, and roared. Dust burst outward as his vines plunged into the ground.

Green orbs swirled at his mouth, charging with sunlight.

"Teleport, now!"

In a blink of light, Kirlia vanished suddenly and reappearing above Ivysaur.

"Psychic!"

A ripple of blue psychic power exploded downward. The psychic blast caught Ivysaur head-on, scattering petals and shaking the trees.

But when the smoke cleared. Ivysaur was still standing, though panting. His eyes narrowed with fighting spirit. "Saur!"

The flower on Ivysaur's back bloomed for an instant, firing a glowing seed that spiraled like a comet.

Kirlia tried to dodge, but the seed struck her leg — bursting into green vines that latched and drained energy.

Kirlia cried out, staggered.

William clenched his jaw. "You okay?"

Kirlia nodded, though her aura flickered weakly.

Ivysaur growls loudly and the leaves on the ground suddenly levitate, the clearing filled with spinning leaves which are hundreds of them, slashing through the air like blades.

"Kirlia uses Psychic again! Push them back!"

Her eyes glowed blue. Every leaf froze midair and suspended. Then, with a defiant shout, she hurled them back twice as fast.

The leaves smashed into the ground around Ivysaur, erupting in dirt and light.

When the haze cleared, Ivysaur was still standing with battered, but grinning, a wild, competitive gleam in his eyes.
