My uncle didn't stay long after that. The moment Cleo sat down, he suddenly had somewhere to be.
"I'll leave you two to… catch up," he said with that smug tone that made my skin crawl. Then, to Cleo, "Make yourself comfortable. You'll be seeing a lot more of this place."
He stood, adjusted his cloak, and left the dining room.
The silence that followed after was crazy. I didn't look at her at first. I just kept my eyes on the plate in front of me, the silver fork catching the light. My heart wouldn't stop pounding.
"I told you I was going to come back for Kael," Cleo said finally, her voice was eerily calm.
"And I told you he's mine. I always keep my word Seraphina."
I lifted my head slowly. "You're unbelievable," I said. "You come back after he specifically told you to stay away, and you have the boldness to tell me that to my face?"
She smiled, then leaned slightly forward.
