Chapter 20 Sneaky
The next day, Lena Morgen saw the news that the KT Team had terminated its contract with Xaver Lehmann.
Because he knelt down in front of so many viewers in the live stream, the KT Team management was furious, believing he had severely damaged the team's interests, and thus terminated his contract.
Xaver was also very regretful about this and issued an apology letter to the team's fans.
The fans were also angry at his lack of resolve.
"What's the big deal about dying? Why surrender?"
"Young man!"
"Still thinking too simply."
"If you're afraid of death, don't be a pirate! You don't belong in the KT Team!"
"You reap what you sow."
There were all sorts of voices, and the video of Xaver and Lena's duel also spread, with players equally amazed by Lena's fluid combat skills.
Seeing the massive popularity of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Morgenstern GmbH couldn't sit still and launched another wave of promotions for its kingdom adventure, but players didn't really buy into it, and sales remained stuck at just over three million, unable to climb higher.
"It infuriates me! That Unreal Entertainment Company dares to challenge us! Buy a bunch of internet trolls to smear them online!" Felix Brandt paced back and forth in his office, fuming.
"But boss, what's the reason for smearing them?" the assistant asked softly.
"Reason? That's not my problem to think about. Let those trolls figure it out themselves. I'm paying!"
"Understood, Director Felix."
So, the next day, some negative comments appeared under the Steam Platform.
"Poor game quality, bad review!"
"Garbage graphics, unplayable!"
"I don't even want to play just looking at the menu interface."
"What kind of game is this? It's not as fun as kingdom adventure."
The game time of these commenters did not exceed a few minutes; they were the type who bought the game, left a bad review, and then refunded it.
Upon seeing these comments, the fans of Pirates of the Caribbean were amused.
Many fans posted videos on the platform.
"I wonder if everyone saw the Steam Platform today. Someone hired internet trolls to spam Pirates of the Caribbean with bad reviews. I was amused by the first comment, which said the game graphics were bad. It made me laugh so hard! Doesn't he know this is the best-looking game on the market? If he thinks the graphics aren't good, there are still high-quality, top-quality, and cinematic-quality graphics settings. I really don't know what these trolls are thinking."
"Haha, I saw it too. It's truly incredible. These guys will do anything for money."
"What's the point of those few bad reviews? Millions of purchases are almost all positive reviews. The public's eyes are sharp."
"It feels like people hired by Morgenstern GmbH. Many bad reviews are recommending kingdom adventure. Let's all boycott kingdom adventure!"
"Exactly! I only played kingdom adventure for about ten minutes, and I really couldn't stand it. I'm getting a refund right now!"
"I'm getting a refund too!"
Felix's tactic of hiring internet trolls not only failed to impact the sales of Pirates of the Caribbean but instead caused the sales of kingdom adventure to decline in reverse.
A large number of refunds appeared all at once, making him frantic.
"Quickly issue a statement to distance ourselves!"
"Understood, Director Felix."
The assistant then began to busy himself with the orders.
Immediately after, Felix dialed Carl Schmidt's number.
"The line is busy, please try again later..."
"The line is busy, please try again later..."
Felix thought for a moment and finally drove to the building of Unreal Entertainment Company.
Downstairs was very lively, as Unreal Company was holding a lucky draw event for players, and a player who won a collector's edition gift package couldn't stop smiling.
This formed a stark contrast to the deserted scene downstairs at his own company.
Felix stepped out of his luxury car, yet no one paid him any attention.
It wasn't until he coughed several times, almost drying out his throat, that a staff member noticed him.
"Are you Director Felix, the CEO of Morgenstern GmbH?"
"It's me." Felix stood there with an arrogant expression.
"Wow, it's Director Felix from Morgenstern! Everyone, come and see!"
"It's Director Felix!"
"Why is Director Felix at the Unreal Company building?"
"Director Felix, my previous account was banned. Can you unblock it for me?"
"Director Felix, what are your thoughts on Pirates of the Caribbean's sales far surpassing kingdom adventure?"
"Director Felix, is Morgenstern GmbH unable to recruit people? It's about to be surpassed by Unreal Entertainment, oh~~"
Everyone surrounded Felix, talking over each other.
Fortunately, Carl noticed the situation downstairs and had someone bring Felix up.
By the time Felix arrived at the office, his clothes were already torn.
"A bunch of impolite fellows." Felix brushed the dust off his clothes, then sat on the sofa with an arrogant expression.
Carl, on the other hand, smiled, "It's an honor for Director Felix to grace us with his presence at Unreal Entertainment. May I ask what brings Director Felix here?"
Felix lifted his head, "Is Pirates of the Caribbean made by your company?"
Carl shook his head, "I've publicly stated in the media that we are only the publisher and are not involved in game development."
"I don't believe it. I had people investigate for the past few days, and they couldn't find the production company for Pirates of the Caribbean. Can this company be invisible or something?"
"It certainly isn't invisible. Perhaps this company prefers not to show its face, so it entrusted us as its agent."
Seeing that he couldn't get any information, Felix turned to look around, and seeing no one, he cautiously asked, "As a game company executive, you should understand that a game engine is indispensable for making a good game. Can you tell me what game engine Pirates of the Caribbean uses? I'd like to take a look."
Carl's heart sank. He knew this guy had a purpose and wanted to see the game engine, perhaps to buy it.
"To be honest, I really don't know. Perhaps this game doesn't have a production engine."
"Impossible, there definitely is one. How can you make a game without an engine?"
"I apologize, I used to work in film and entertainment companies, and I'm just a beginner in the gaming field. I was lucky enough to become an agent. Please don't ask me things I don't know."
Felix looked at Carl, and he didn't seem to be lying.
"Then do you have the contact information for the Pirates of the Caribbean producer?"
"I'm sorry, that's confidential."
"I..."
At this moment, the assistant walked in, "Herr Schmidt, there's media looking for you."
Carl nodded, "Excuse me, Director Felix, I have some other matters to attend to, so I can't keep you company."
Carl stood up and left, leaving Felix sitting there in a daze.
His mind was entirely preoccupied with how to crack the password and steal the code, attempting to recreate his past glory.
When he left GG Games Company back then, he had copied game code from Matthias Engel's computer.
Perhaps this time, he could succeed again.
So he sat in front of the computer screen and turned on the computer.
"Please enter password."
"123456."
"Incorrect password. Please try again."
"00000000"
"Incorrect password. Please try again."
"888888"
"Incorrect password more than three times. Please try again in five minutes."
At this moment, Carl walked in with some people.
"Excuse me, Director Felix, I have some matters to discuss in the office. I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to step out."
"Understood."
Felix coughed awkwardly, then stood up and left the office.
All the way, his mind was filled with thoughts of how to crack the password and steal the code, attempting to relive his past glory.
