When Yecheng saw that a betting pool had been set up for his spar with Rex, he also wanted to make a quick buck. Unfortunately, he was broke, so he had to miss this opportunity.
"Aaaaaah!"
"Take this! Combat Art: Lightning Slash!"
Rex knew very well that based on their previous encounter, his chances of winning a one-on-one fight with Yecheng were slim to none. If he waited for Yecheng to make the first move, he might not even have a chance to counter before losing the duel. So Rex's strategy was clear: even if he lost, he had to lose with style. At the very least, he couldn't lose too horribly in front of so many people.
"No way, Rex is serious! He's even using a combat art on a rookie. Is he trying to kill the guy?!"
Just as Yecheng had learned, almost everyone in "Granbahamal" could use magic. Some skilled adventurers could even fuse their combat arts with magic to create more formidable techniques. The one Rex was using was just such a technique.
A golden light instantly infused the longsword in Rex's hand with mana. A faint golden arc of electricity pulsed on the blade. Because of this combat art, Rex's speed was visibly enhanced. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of Yecheng.
Compared to the shocked onlookers, Yecheng was not surprised by Rex's combat art. Instead, he was more curious. He had only recently arrived in this world, and this was the first time he had seen its magic.
The last time Yecheng beat up the three adventurers, they didn't use any magic. It wasn't because they didn't want to, but because Yecheng's bare-handed combat was too fast, and they were too careless, so they didn't even have time to cast a spell.
Looking at the lightning-fast slash coming towards him, Yecheng calmly gripped his coarse bone knife and parried the downward strike.
"Boom!"
The moment Rex's sword hit Yecheng's horizontal bone knife, a huge impact exploded. A vicious bolt of lightning raged as a blinding flash of light instantly stole everyone's vision.
"Rex, are you insane?! Yecheng is just a rookie! You're..."
As the fierce lightning created a strong flash, the powerful electrical arc shattered the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust. Looking at the two figures now hidden behind the dust screen, Soya angrily scolded Rex.
Soya had thought that a spar with Rex would help Yecheng understand his own strength. While he might get hurt, it was better than dying at the hands of monsters because he was too cocky. But Soya never expected Rex to be so heavy-handed in a simple spar. The combat art he just used was a killing move!
However, Soya's words of anger were cut short halfway through by the scene that unfolded before her. She didn't even know if she should be angry anymore. In fact, she wasn't the only one. The other adventurers watching were also completely dumbfounded and stunned, so much so that they even forgot to drink their ale.
Everyone in the crowd had just seen Rex, wielding his sword with both hands, use his combat art to slash at Yecheng. The rookie adventurer, Yecheng, didn't even have time to dodge and could only choose to defend. Although the cloud of dust hid them from view, most people assumed the duel was over, and the only question was how badly Yecheng was hurt.
But what did they just see? That "whoosh" sound from the dust cloud... was that Rex, the one who just used his combat art and was supposed to be the winner?
At first, everyone thought their eyes were playing tricks on them. But when another figure slowly emerged from the dust cloud, holding a sword with one hand, they realized in shock that the figure that flew out was indeed Rex!
"I see. So this is what they call magic and combat arts. It's a very powerful force. It feels similar to the Kidō I've mastered, but it's a different kind of power. Speaking of which, can I still use Kidō in this world? Maybe I should try it now."
The Lightning Slash Rex used felt somewhat like a spiritual pressure attack, but its power was quite weak. However, the way it used its power was a fresh experience for Yecheng.
"Seize it, all you who come! The mask of flesh and bone, the myriad, the flapping of wings, the name of humanity, scorching heat and turmoil, raging against the seas, advancing southward! Hadō #31: Shakkahō!"
As Yecheng slowly walked out of the dust cloud, he held a now-cracked bone knife in one hand and extended his other hand forward, rapidly chanting the Kidō spell.
Since his power system had been converted by the system to match this world's, a red magic circle appeared in front of his palm as he chanted the Kidō spell. His spiritual pressure, now converted to mana, surged forth, and the resulting gust of wind instantly blew away the surrounding dust.
A second later, a crimson fireball, nearly three meters in diameter, emerged from the magic circle in Yecheng's hand and shot out at an astonishing speed in the direction Rex had been sent flying.
Yecheng was stunned. He was sure he had controlled his spiritual pressure, but he never expected the size of the Shakkahō to be so ridiculous. Furthermore, since the Kidō had been converted to magic, it lost its ability to be held. The moment he finished chanting, the Shakkahō shot out from his hand.
Watching the small, sun-like crimson fireball streak across the guild hall, leaving a scorched path on the floor, Yecheng moved in an instant.
It was a joke. While he was annoyed by Rex's actions, he only wanted to teach him a lesson; he had no intention of killing him. From their previous encounter, he knew Rex's strength. If Rex took a direct hit from this otherworld version of Shakkahō, he would have no chance of surviving!
He had just registered as an adventurer today and wanted to continue his activities under this identity. He didn't want to become a wanted criminal for accidentally killing someone.
Yecheng pushed off the ground repeatedly. With the help of his Shunpo, his figure disappeared from everyone's sight. When the onlookers finally recovered, they were shocked to find that Yecheng had already appeared in front of the crimson fireball he had just released!
