After getting their weapons checked from Anchor, and upgraded, they started training. It took a few hours but it was worth it.
Seeing Sabo go all out with the strongest members of their crew had left quite a bit of an impression on them.
Coby wasn't in the dungeon like them, he was outside, helping the people of Angel Island and Shandora build their new homes. Even though most of the work was done, the young man still wanted to help out in any way possible.
So Johnny and Yosaku were left with training with Gin. And that was quite the brutal experience, still, it did give results.
The sound of clashing steel and heavy footfalls echoed as Gin, with his weighted tonfa in hand, faced off against Johnny and Yosaku, each armed with their respective weapons.
Both Johnny and Yosaku moved at the same time using Soru, attacking with their weapons. But they were stopped easily by Gin who sidestepped Johnny's spear while deflecting Yosaku's axe.
Both former bounty hunters attacked relentlessly, and yet Gin was easily above them in terms of skill. His techniques like Soru and Tekkai were much more skilled and his strikes had much more weight to them.
All three of them moved with savagery. Their actions were anything but an elegant dance, each move unpredictable and desperate, and yet there was a rhythm in it.
Sidestepping the spear and ducking the axe blow, Gin threw one of his tonfas at Johnny's leg, making the young man stumble. Using that as a chance Gin kicked him in the chin, almost knocking him out.
Seeing his partner and rival get hit, Yosaku moved in, trying to attack him from behind. But Gin's sense's were sharp, before Yosaku could get near to attack him in the back, a tail with a mace end smashed into Yosaku's gut, knocking the wind out of him.
Yosaku would have been knocked out if he didn't use Iron Body in time, so he ended up coughing on the floor, while Johnny groaned massaging his chin, both of them looked at Gin, who had a smirk on his face. Of course, Gin was in his half-zoan form now.
Almost standing ten feet tall, becoming almost double in height. He stood tall, a shark-like grin on his face. His body was covered in scales with large to small spikes covering most of the back side of his body, a tail grew out of his spine that ended with a mace, that was equally covered with spikes. "Don't quit on me now, guys." Gin said with a smile, "I'm just itching for a hunt."
Both of the bounty hunters felt almost a primal fear from looking at Gin. It wasn't Conqueror's haki, no, it was pure bloodlust. Still, it was nerve-wracking.
Johnny, supported himself with his spear and got up, lightly panting "You got to be shitting me, Gin!" he called out, "I thought you weren't supposed to be using your powers…"
Gin didn't say anything and just grinned.
Yosaku on the other hand spoke, "Eh… I see this as a win. It seems both of us were getting too hard to handle without his powers."
Gin's eye twitched, but he didn't deny it. Both of them had improved, and so Gin had to use his zoan powers for it.
Even without going into his zoan forms, Gin had gotten significantly stronger (even while human) after eating the ancient zoan fruit. Dragon Dragon fruit: Model Ankylosarus.
But when he activated his powers, he was almost unmanageable. His durability got a significant boost that even Haki users in his crew needed to put much effort in damaging him. He was an ancient zoan after all, and they were notorious for their durability.
Along with it came his vast increase in strength, though his speed did suffer because of it. Still, with the spikes on his back that he could control, he was a menace even with sub-par speed.
"So, ya guys gonna move or not?" Gin asked. "Cause I will…" with that he vanished from the sight, a large crater forming where Gin previously was as he moved by use of Soru, tackling Yosaku who had his shield up.
Yosaku was thrown back crashing into a pillar, spider cracks forming behind him.
Sub-par in speed according to the Straw hat standards. Which were quite high.
Gin moved again, this time going after Johnny, who moved away in time. Johnny unlike Yosaku started running away from Gin's attack and only attacked when an opportunity presented itself.
With Gin's added weight, his speed was reduced. But with the added power, he found a way to get over that weakness. And that was through using Soru —with all his strength— to give him short bursts of supersonic speed.
Yosaku also came down a bit later, helping Johnny out with everything he had. And yet it wasn't nearly enough. Gin wasn't taking any damage at all, his scales making him tougher than steel.
While in his half-zoan form, Gin also picked up his weighted tonfas and started fighting Johnny and Yosaku. Never going all out, trying to push his crewmates to their limits. His Captain had trusted him to train Johnny and Yosaku so he would try his best.
Mainly as in both of them wanted to become zoan users in the future. Fighting against one might give them some ideas on what they wanted.
Their movements were a blur, and Gin's skill was evident as he deftly parried Johnny's thrusts and tanking Yosaku's powerful swings. He countered with fierce and brutal strikes, each one precise and powerful, proving why he was in charge of training them.
Even though Johnny and Yosaku were weak, they were giving him quite the bit of a workout. It would have been more fun if Coby was here, but that kid was up there being hero.
Still, it didn't matter. Coby might be strong, but almost his equal —in his opinion— some even believed that the pink-haired pirate was stronger. But they were obviously wrong.
"Sheild uppercut!"
Gin was cut mid-thought when Yosaku managed to land a strike with his shield on his chin while Johnny threw his spear right near the exact spot where Yosaku had damaged.
But Gin moved quickly and caught the spar in between his teeth, a feral growl coming out of his mouth.
He spat out the spear while he rubbed his chin, "That almost hurt…"
Gin didn't say much, but it was clear that he was pissed. Both Johnny and Yosaku gulped but steeled their resolve as Gin came in for an attack.
His tonfa and tail strikes were relentless, forcing Johnny and Yosaku to constantly adapt and defend.
As the spar continued, it became evident that Gin held the upper hand, his superior skill and strength allowing him to dictate the flow of the battle. Still Johnny and Yosaku fought with everything they got, until they were knocked out.
While it was true that Gin's durability was top-notch, there were still some weakpoints, such as his face, neck and stomach area where he could get hit. So Johnny and Yosaku who had recently learned to cut steel used it to their advantage to push back against the zoan user.
Their battle continued in the dungeon, as they fought with everything they got. Almost every member of the Straw Hat crew was training.
All of them had a goal in mind. And that was the upcoming war. So they didn't want to stay weak. And how could they when even their own captain was giving his all to making himself stronger?
Luffy was someone who led by example. By seeing his hard work, others were naturally inclined to do it. Even though most of the crew had their own dreams and goals.
They still had one common goal in mind. And that was making their crew strong. So strong that no one would even dare go against them. And for that, they trained! They will fulfil that dream, one day.

A/N: One thing I noticed that Kaku from CP9 might be one of the most talented people out there.
Talented as in devil fruit usage at least. In just two years he went from eating a new fruit to awakening it. I always thought you needed to have at least ten-plus years to awaken a fruit, but that's not the case it seems.
So, with that in mind, if some of the straw hats do awaken their fruit after a time-skip you guys can't throw 'non-canon' claim at me. Lol.
Also, a bit of a reminder. The crew is a lot bigger and every one of the crewmates has a story. So I will focus on them.
Luffy will have his cool moments, with his powers and all. And I even set up some challenges for him before and during Marineford. But the other characters also need some love.
I didn't just add them to the crew to increase the numbers. They will have their own moments and fun stories to add.

Extended Summary:
All I know is this is just wrong. I was just reading the latest chapter of One Piece in my computer. And an annoying survey popped up asking me if I want to play One Piece new beginning. Thinking nothing of it I said yes.
And selected 'Realistic' difficulty.
There was a game loading screen. Loading gibberish, and warning me that the world has a lot of surprises in store for me. Not all things are same, because I had to choose the 'developer's time-line'.
And then telling me to brace for Character Synchronization. And before I knew it, I was no longer your average Joe. And this wasn't earth either... no this was One Piece.
And, I was Monkey D. Luffy. The future King of pirates.
I mean what could go wrong? If Luffy could do it, so could I.
But this wasn't the same One piece world I remember. Some changes are small like Kuina being Zoro's rival… who's alive.
While others were huge. Like... did you know, Whitebeard had an actual beard?! Man looked like Santa Claus on steroids. Jaked and shit!
Just what did I get myself into?
But does it matter?
No.
Because I'm going to have the time of my life. This was going to be one heck of an adventure.
