Chapter 2 - Chapter 2. Painful Sarcasm

 ←««^»»→

Louis's acerbic words sounded equally humorous to Beverly. How impenitent was he to hail his conditional love after frustrating her trust? Meanwhile, Diane dropped her face and pouted at the invidiousness digesting her heart.

After a short pause, she dashed forward and feigned benevolence, "Louis is right, Bee. Regardless of how hard I try, he'll always put you first—"

Simultaneously, Beverly raised her admonishing stare at her and clenched her fists, "I don't expect you to say anything, whore! Neither do I know who you are anymore!" Her words virtually choked her throat.

After constantly gasping for air, she added, "Shut up! What were you thinking when you dropped your panties for him if not trying to lure him?"

Whatever she censured her for, Diane stepped forward ruefully and argued, "You don't have to do this, Beverly. You are the best couple there is–"

Withal, her bumptiousness could be traced through her complacent words. If not for Louis, her notoriety wouldn't permit her to be associated with a lumpen, old–fashioned girl like her!

Now that Beverly had delivered them from the perilous situation, arguing with her seemed inane! Meanwhile, Louis tried to bring her around, "We've not come this far to clash, honey. Besides me marrying you and buying you whatever you ever wished for on earth, what else do you want?"

That sounded atrocious. She could see how loving her and buying her expensive jewelry made it sound like a favor.

With that in mind, she asked, "Do you think I want your money? Mmm... so because you have it, you can sleep with anyone else while I watch and applaud you? I don't want that kind of love–!"

Upon hearing that, Louis lowered his voice and asked, "Didn't I say that I love you?"

"That's not love, Louis. Unconditional love is about loyalty and commitment regardless of the cost. But you, you are a serial cheater!" Meanwhile, Louis chuckled ridiculously and shook his head with incredulity. She just sounded like a newborn baby!

Thereafter, he bolted away and looked at her hectically, "You've got to be fooling me, Beverly. Do you expect an influential man like me to have just one woman?" Demonstrating with his finger, he added, "Every woman is in love with me!"

He literally slammed his chest to boast.

After a short pause of rendering her speechless, he continued, "Nonetheless, you must be my wife. I can sleep with a million, but the position of a wife remains yours."

Through his fanciful imagination, he thought he sounded eminently romantic and solicitous. Verily, he must have waited for Beverly to hop into his chest and let him coddle her like a little puppet.

Unable to believe it, Beverly moved aside, "Screw you!"

Soon after, she moved with lightning speed and surprised him with a grievous smack on his cheek. Meanwhile, Louis grabbed at the red welt on his cheek and patted it.

"How dare you slap me, bonehead?" he squealed callously.

Diane never anticipated her to be that heroic. Meanwhile, she stood lightning-struck and stared at both simultaneously before suddenly acting sweet, "Hey, let me have a look at it. Does it hurt?"

Thereafter, she turned to Beverly and looked at her remorsefully, "How inhumane are you, Beverly?"

Being the only son of the remarkable Gregory Mafia dynasty, he never dreamt of a woman laying hands on his face. After straightening up, he clenched his teeth, "Diane told me that you are irrational and heartless. I now believe it!"

Beverly wasn't ready to share him with his million concubines! Neither was she despondent for money to tolerate such disgrace! In fact, the admiration she had for him expired instantaneously.

"We're done..." she ultimately managed to whisper.

Beverly couldn't continue heaping up infinite quarrels with him. With that in mind, she struggled her wimpy legs away; however, Louis followed her rapidly.

"We're not done yet!" he roared bitterly. Meanwhile, Beverly kept her mouth shut and her heart wide open for the dramatic scene.

Upon seeing her running away, Louis rushed after her. "You can't just leave me alone, Louis..." Diane cried out behind him. As he turned around with eagle-like eyes, Diane suddenly ran into his chest and skillfully embraced him tightly.

Thereafter, she suggested, "Don't worry, Louis. I'm here for you, okay? I'm sure she's edgy right now. Perhaps, you should give her some time to think clearly. We all know that she can't dump you."

Indeed, Diane was right. Perhaps, she was only perplexed, but she couldn't move on without him. After all, Louis wasn't a typical man. His influence in the entire city was substantial. He could do whatever he wanted, at any hour, without giving a damn!

Besides, he was one of the most prestigious, handsome men. Little did Beverly know how innumerable girls were dying only to be associated with him. Not even getting married to him!
