The first tremor felt wrong as the entire blind zone pulsed beneath our feet like a heartbeat buried under concrete and steel. The psychic field around us warped violently, every remaining wall flickering in and out of existence.
Beside me, Elena stiffened instantly. She felt it too.
"This isn't a system collapse," she whispered.
No. It wasn't.
Tiffany stared at the floor as realization slowly drained the color from her face.
"No…" she breathed.
I turned sharply toward her.
"What did Quinn build under this place?"
She didn't answer immediately, which was answer enough.
Another tremor hit, this one stronger. Somewhere far below us, something screamed.
The sound didn't travel through the air; it moved through thought. The psychic shockwave slammed into the chamber hard enough that Elena grabbed my arm instinctively while blood suddenly ran from Tiffany's nose.
