Taylor opened the door of her house, expecting to start her day quietly, but froze when she saw Chris standing on the porch, waiting for her.
"Good morning," he said, his usual confident grin softened by something warm and sincere.
Taylor felt her heart skip a beat. "Good morning…" she replied, her cheeks warming as she stepped outside.
Chris held out his hand. "Shall we?"
Taylor smiled and took it, their fingers intertwining naturally. The simple touch sent a thrill through her chest. They walked down the quiet street together, talking softly, laughing occasionally, and feeling a closeness neither had experienced before.
Chris carried her backpack for her, holding it easily as they walked side by side. "You know," he said teasingly, "this is my favorite kind of walk — the one where I get to carry your stuff and hold your hand at the same time."
Taylor laughed, her tension melting away. "You're ridiculous. But… I like it."
Chris's grin widened. "I know," he said, squeezing her hand gently.
At school, they walked together through the gates, still holding hands, still feeling that new but exciting connection. Class went by quickly, their occasional glances and quiet smiles speaking louder than any words.
After their last lecture, Chris caught up with Taylor outside. "So… what do you say we make the rest of today special?" he asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Taylor raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Special how?"
Chris shrugged, his grin widening. "How about a date? Just you and me. No distractions, no rumors, no worries."
Taylor felt her heart leap. "A date… okay. I'd like that."
Chris's face lit up. "Good. Because I was hoping you'd say yes."
They walked off together, side by side, holding hands, planning their afternoon. Taylor felt a flutter of happiness — the kind that comes when someone cares for you, makes you feel safe, and is excited to spend time with you.
And as they left the school grounds, their laughter mingling with the sounds of the city, Taylor realized that this was the beginning of something truly special — the start of their story together.
