Chapter 98 - Chapter 97: A Place Not Loved by the Young Dragon

Compared to the Infected outside, who were full of worry and struggling for a livelihood, these people, with smiles and longing on their faces, undoubtedly lived in paradise.

After entering Laterano, Kanna roughly understood why Kal'tsit said the Infected from outside couldn't get in.

As Kanna and her group, who didn't have a spotlight on their heads, they encountered continuous inspections from the moment they entered Laterano. Because Kal'tsit was Infected, they were denied entry to all cities along the way.

It was fortunate that they were only passing through Laterano. Even if they weren't allowed into non-Infected cities, they could still obtain sufficient supplies in the Infected gathering areas outside, so it wasn't a big difficulty for the two of them.

However, Laterano's 'loose outside, strict inside' policy made Kanna feel uncomfortable. Laterano was indeed a good place, but its unconditional preferential treatment was only for those Sarkaz with halos on their heads. Others always fell short by that one bit. Even though the Laterano Garrison they encountered on the road didn't treat them differently because of the Infected, Kanna still wasn't keen on it.

"What's wrong?" Kal'tsit was a little surprised to find Kanna somewhat downcast after entering Laterano. After all, her body couldn't catch a cold, and she had been so energetic in Siracusa. Why did she become so gloomy in the even better environment of Laterano?

"Nothing. Before coming, I thought I would like it here, but after arriving, I found reality and imagination weren't the same. I don't really like this country, I don't know why, so let's leave quickly!"

Kanna touched her horn, took a deep breath to dispel her inner irritation, and uncharacteristically urged Kal'tsit.

Hearing Kanna's words, Kal'tsit paused slightly, then stepped on the accelerator. "Whether you like it or not, the fastest we can cross Laterano's border is in a week. If you're uncomfortable, then go to the back of the car and sleep!"

"Alright!" Kanna crawled from the front seat to the back, curled up on the cushion, and quickly fell asleep.

Kal'tsit, driving in front, looked thoughtfully towards the location of Laterano, the capital of Laterano, and silently changed her original plan of passing directly through the middle of Laterano, instead taking a detour to their destination.

Over the next few days, Kanna, as she said, ate and slept all day, as if she intended to catch up on all her sleep, which made Kal'tsit unconsciously drive a bit faster.

Finally, after about a week, the vehicle arrived at the border between Laterano and Iberia.

After entering the city, they saw a Liberi wearing a Rhodes Island uniform standing by the roadside, looking around for something.

Kal'tsit drove over and opened the car window.

Seeing Kal'tsit in the car, the person was very excited and walked over eagerly. "Hello, Doctor Kal'tsit, Operator Luo Cha reporting to you."

Kal'tsit nodded. "Hello, Luo Cha, I am Kal'tsit. To make a long story short, are the documents we need to go to Iberia ready?"

Luo Cha nodded. "They are ready, but there probably isn't time today. If you don't mind, you can rest here for one night and go to the Border Management Office early tomorrow morning to get the travel permit."

Kal'tsit nodded. "Then I'll trouble you."

Hearing Kal'tsit's words, it was clear Luo Cha was very happy. "It is an honor for all our field Operators to work for Doctor Kal'tsit. The resting place has been prepared for you."

"Kanna! Wake up, we're resting here today, and leaving Laterano tomorrow."

Hearing Kal'tsit's words, Kanna groggily rubbed her eyes and poked her head out of the car.

Seeing the Operator in the Rhodes Island uniform standing nearby, Kanna waved friendly. "Hello, my name is Kanna!"

"Hello Kanna, my name is Luo Cha, and I'm the field Operator in charge here!" Seeing Kanna, Luo Cha first surprisingly glanced at Kal'tsit, then, realizing that a Feline couldn't possibly give birth to a Wyvern, he nervously shifted his gaze to Kanna and greeted her with a smile.

Kanna clearly saw his actions, but thinking that if she laughed, Kal'tsit would likely make things difficult for her, she held back.

Led by Luo Cha, the group drove the car next to a house and then went inside.

"This style is very Rhodes Island!" After entering the house, Kanna looked at the arrangement of the room and felt a strong sense of familiarity. After recalling, she realized it was the decorative style often used inside Rhodes Island, and couldn't help but exclaim.

"That's right. I've been here for three years since leaving Rhodes Island, and I still remember every part of Rhodes Island," Luo Cha nodded proudly.

"I remember you submitted an application to return?" Kal'tsit asked Luo Cha after putting down her backpack.

"Yes, it's a bit embarrassing to say, but I've worked hard here in Laterano for three years, and still haven't achieved much. The people here are too stubborn. Even among the Infected, not many are willing to interact with us. Most of the Sarkaz, after becoming Infected, chose to leave Laterano."

Luo Cha couldn't help but sigh at this point.

Kal'tsit nodded after hearing him. "I'm quite familiar with the situation in Laterano. Three years ago, when you came here, I actually thought you'd quickly be defeated by the reality of this place and return to Rhodes Island. I didn't expect you to persevere for so long before making a choice. But it's not too late now. After Kanna and I leave, you should withdraw from here. Report back to Rhodes Island; it would be a waste of your talent to stay here."

Luo Cha couldn't help but tear up. "Thank you, Doctor Kal'tsit. I'll work hard when I get back."

As the two chatted, the melodious sound of a violin drifted over from nearby. They followed the sound and saw Kanna holding a violin against her chest as if it were a cello, gently plucking the strings with her bow.

After the piece ended, Luo Cha clapped his hands. "A very beautiful performance. Although the technique is a bit unpracticed, it is undoubtedly a perfectly executed piece. May I have the honor of knowing its name?"

"'Speak softly love,'" Kanna said, picking up the violin and placing it in its case.

"Hehe, sorry about that. I learned the violin for a few days from Amiya before, and seeing a violin here, I couldn't help but feel a bit itchy-fingered."

"'Speak Softly Love,' the name is as beautiful as the piece. When I was on Rhodes Island, I exchanged notes with Amiya on the violin; she's a very talented child." Hearing Kanna mention Amiya, Luo Cha's expression brightened even more. He slapped his head, went into the house, and brought out a large cake.

"When Rhodes Island sent word, I was quite surprised because the letter said it would be best to prepare a sufficiently large dessert after you arrived. I estimated your itinerary and have been preparing it these past few days. Come and try it; it's a freshly made cake today."
