Chapter 246: Arrival! Green City
"Larvi larvi..."
Larvitar smiled and waved its small hand, greeting Bai Bai enthusiastically while secretly sizing up its future trainer.
Bai Bai stared blankly at Larvitar.
A Pseudo-Legendary Pokémon wasn't something you could just buy at a street market.
"Well? Do you like it?"
Kenji rubbed Larvitar's head and looked at Bai Bai.
"The A-Rank potential Pokémon you mentioned... is this Larvitar???!"
On the other side of the screen, Bai Bai rarely lost her composure, but now her voice trembled, her emotions visibly surging.
Kenji nodded with a grin, thoroughly enjoying Bai Bai's shocked expression.
"That's right."
Kenji briefly explained his visit to the Qi Clan and how he had brought Larvitar out with him.
"Kenji... thank you."
It took a long while for Bai Bai to recover from her shock. She looked at Kenji with a complicated expression, her tone firm and sincere.
Her intensity made it seem like if Kenji asked her to marry him right now, she would agree without hesitation.
Of course, Kenji wouldn't dare suggest such a thing. Even if Bai Bai agreed, Tyson Tang would hunt him down and kill him.
"Do your best. I hope to see you at this year's Huaxia League Conference."
Before hanging up, Kenji said.
Bai Bai nodded slightly, responding seriously, "Okay."
After ending the video call, Kenji placed Larvitar's Poké Ball onto the transfer machine and sent it directly to Bai Bai.
Larvitar is pretty mischievous. Bai Bai will probably have to put in some effort to bond with it.
Kenji muttered to himself.
Early the next morning, Kenji set off for Green City (Hohhot).
Saibei Province was huge but sparsely populated, famous for its vast, empty landscapes.
Besides housing Huaxia's largest desert, it also boasted endless grasslands.
On the prairie, Kenji rode Ninetales, feeling the wind scented with grass brush past him. A quick glance revealed numerous Pokémon roaming the plains.
Grasslands and forests were the biomes with the highest biodiversity. Pokémon like Rattata, Persian, and Dodrio were everywhere.
Occasionally, herds of Tauros and Gogoat galloped across the plains.
In the clear blue sky, Fearow and Mandibuzz were locked in aerial combat.
A pack of Mightyena crouched low in the grass, stalking their prey, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Their target was a lone Deerling.
...
"It's beautiful."
Compared to the dense, obstructed view of a forest, the boundless, open grassland was majestic in a different way. Kenji stopped Ninetales and stood side by side with his partner, sighing in admiration.
After a long day of travel, night fell. The sun set, and moonlight illuminated the prairie.
Kenji looked up at a sky full of stars.
This was a view impossible to see in the city.
He checked his coordinates on his smartwatch.
He wasn't far from Green City. If he left early tomorrow morning, he could arrive before noon.
Kenji stopped for the night. He released his Pokémon to get some fresh air while he took out his tent from his spatial backpack.
Compared to the desert, Kenji's Pokémon definitely preferred the grassland.
Especially the Grass-types Bellossom and Servine, and the Water-type Gyarados.
Gyarados lounged contentedly in a small lake nearby.
Bellossom and Servine played around Slaking.
Slaking lay on the grass, fast asleep, occasionally scratching its belly and ignoring the little ones completely.
Beedrill, the undisputed "Big Brother" of the team, consciously took on the role of sentry, scanning the surroundings for danger.
The mischievous Ninetales decided to tease the short-tempered Mankey.
Mankey was so angry its eyelids twitched, its fists clenched tight, and its fur stood on end.
But facing the sly Ninetales, Mankey could only swallow its rage.
As its level increased, Mankey's temper grew more explosive.
Fortunately, Mankey's level was still low. Among Kenji's team, only Servine was lower level than Mankey.
But Servine had Bellossom and Ninetales—the two big sisters—backing it up.
So, although Mankey was stubborn, it wasn't stupid. It wisely directed its anger toward wild Pokémon or other trainers' Pokémon instead.
This turned Mankey into a terror for the local wildlife.
Meanwhile, Arbok and Electivire helped Kenji set up the tent.
Since being separated from Kenji for a while, Arbok had become even clingier. It insisted on sleeping right next to Kenji.
As for Electivire, its motivation was pure gluttony.
Once the tent was up, Electivire looked at Kenji with puppy-dog eyes. Kenji shook his head with a laugh and handed over the prepared Pokéblocks.
Electivire's eyes lit up. It tossed the food into its mouth, chewing with a look of pure satisfaction.
The next morning, refreshed after a night's rest, Kenji set off early.
As predicted, he arrived in Green City before noon.
Green City's architecture was unique, carrying a distinct exotic flavor. Kenji found it fascinating as he walked the streets.
Although modernization had brought skyscrapers to the city, the traditional blue-brick and green-tile buildings hadn't been crudely demolished. Instead, they blended with the modern structures.
This created Green City's unique architectural style.
Tourists from all over Huaxia and abroad flocked here year-round. It was a well-deserved travel hotspot.
