Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Breaking the Kaioshin Sword with Bare Hands

"There it is."

Gran lifted his small hand and pointed toward the sword embedded in the stone pillar.

Neither Beerus nor Whis reacted much to the fact that Gran knew the Elder Kai was sealed within the Kaioshin Sword.

After all, that blade still carried traces of Destruction Energy—it was only natural for Gran, as a Candidate God of Destruction, to sense it.

However…

What Beerus didn't expect was that the seal he'd placed there ages ago had weakened so much over time.

It had become so fragile that it might break on its own before long.

"Where is that exactly?"

Supreme Kai Shin followed Gran's pointing finger and asked doubtfully, "Are you saying my ancestor was sealed… on that stone pillar?"

"No."

Gran shook his head and corrected him.

"Inside the sword on top of that pillar."

"What? My ancestor is sealed within the Kaioshin Sword?"

Shin's eyes widened in disbelief.

He and Kibito had searched the entire Sacred World of the Kai for months, exhausting every possible location

yet they never imagined that the seal was hidden in plain sight, inside the very Kaioshin Sword itself.

"That's impossible!" Shin exclaimed. "There's always been a legend about that sword. It's said that whoever pulls it out will gain immense power! How could my ancestor possibly be sealed inside it?"

His disbelief was understandable.

Every generation of Supreme Kai had tried pulling out that blade.

But none had ever discovered that it contained the Elder Kai himself.

At that moment

"What Kaioshin Sword?" Beerus scoffed irritably. "That broken sword was just the tool I used to seal that old fool! I tossed it here ages ago. Who would've thought you'd actually start worshipping it as some divine relic?"

Kibito: "..."

Shin: "..."

So the so-called sacred relic they had revered for countless years… was merely something Beerus had casually thrown away.

Their years of reverent offerings—what did that make them? A joke?

Seeing Shin's face darken like ink, little Gran nearly burst into laughter, his shoulders trembling as he held it in.

Even Whis' body quivered as he tried to contain himself, before finally breaking into his signature "O-ho-ho-ho!" laugh.

Once Whis started, Gran couldn't help it either—he clutched his stomach and laughed loudly beside him.

Their laughter—one deep and refined, the other childish and bright—echoed along the lakeside.

Shin's face grew even darker.

"All right, enough," Beerus finally said, his lips twitching. "Gran, go and pull it out."

"Yes, Lord Beerus."

Gran stopped laughing and flew toward the stone pillar.

Everyone's eyes followed him, especially Shin's—he had to see for himself whether that "sacred sword"… or rather, that broken sword… really held his ancestor.

Gran landed lightly on the pillar.

He examined the so-called Kaioshin Sword—it looked utterly ordinary.

For generations, they'd worshipped this thing? Impressive, in its own ridiculous way.

"Phew. Let's begin."

Gran bent slightly, gripping the hilt with one hand.

In the original anime, even Gohan couldn't pull this sword out in his base form—he had to transform into Super Saiyan 2, lightning crackling around him, just to lift it.

At that point, his power level was already in the tens of billions.

Which meant that, in his base form, Gran shouldn't be able to pull it out either.

"If I go Super Saiyan, Lord Beerus will just yell at me again… Forget it."

Gran muttered under his breath, closing his eyes for a brief moment—then suddenly snapped them open.

Bzzt!

A surge of silver light burst from his body, and his hair turned a radiant silver-white.

Ultra Instinct (Omen) — Achieved.

In this state, Gran's power could no longer be measured by mere numbers.

His strength, speed, and reaction time had transcended mortal limits.

As Beerus once said

Compared to this form, Gran's Super Saiyan transformations weren't even worth a single hair.

Sure enough

Gran narrowed his eyes, tightened his grip

Crack!

The Kaioshin Sword slid free effortlessly.

As it was drawn, the entire stone pillar in the center of the lake crumbled to dust.

"Supreme Kai, the sword—it's out!" Kibito gasped, mouth agape.

"Gulp."

Shin didn't reply. He swallowed hard instead.

He knew Gran, as a Candidate God of Destruction, should have the power to do it

but actually seeing him pull out the blade that no Supreme Kai across the ages had managed to move… it still sent chills down his spine.

Holding the sword in one hand, Gran descended back to the ground.

"Lord Beerus, I've pulled it out."

"Hmph. That sword I stuck there ages ago survived this long, and you still had to go Ultra Instinct Omen just to pull it out? How embarrassing."

Beerus' tone dripped with disdain.

Gran: "..."

He knew that cat was going to mock him anyway. So… fine, two could play this game.

"I'm sorry, Lord Beerus," Gran said solemnly, "I spent three and a half years training to reach ten billion in combat power.

Three and a half years to achieve the 'selfless' state of mind.

Three and a half years to refine my body's instincts to the second stage.

Three and a half years to ascend to the Kai-level dimension…

And yet even after all that, I still needed Ultra Instinct Omen just to pull out this broken sword. I've truly let you down."

Every sentence Gran uttered made Beerus' expression darken another shade.

Whis covered his mouth, chuckling quietly.

If that was "weak talent," then Beerus might as well jump off a planet right now.

"You brat! Can you not remind everyone how freakish your talent is every five minutes? It's annoying!" Beerus barked.

"Now hurry up and break that sword already."

"Oh, okay."

Gran grinned cheekily.

He was about to snap the sword when Shin hurriedly cried out:

"Wait! Lord Beerus, to unseal my ancestor—do we really have to break the sword? We've been venerating this relic for so long…"

"Even if you've worshipped it for a thousand years, it's still just a broken sword. Gran, break it."

Beerus didn't even look at Shin—just gave Gran a pointed look.

"Got it."

Gran grasped the sword by both ends—and with a sharp twist of his wrists

Crack!

The Kaioshin Sword shattered cleanly in two.

Kibito and Shin stood frozen in shock.

It broke… just like that?!

"Whew…"

Gran dropped the two halves to the ground and exhaled deeply.

Even for him, that sword had some bite—he had to use considerable strength, even in his Ultra Instinct Omen state, to snap it.
