"Who's there?!"
Vegeta sprang down from the massive boulder, spinning around sharply.
Raditz and Nappa held their breath—they, too, had heard the voice coming from behind that same rock.
But… how was that possible?
They'd already scanned this planet three times. There shouldn't have been a single living being left!
So how could someone still be alive?
Both of them turned toward Vegeta, whose face had gone dark.
Oh no. Vegeta was about to lose it.
"Vegeta," the voice spoke again, calm and mocking. "It's only been three years, and you've already forgotten about me?"
From behind the rock, Gran emerged slowly—flanked by the Supreme Kai, Shin, and Kibito.
It was now Age 740, three full years since Gran had first crossed into the Dragon Ball universe.
He was nine years old.
Even after all this time, he could never forget that day—the day he'd nearly died.
He'd been gravely wounded, yet Vegeta, instead of helping him, had blown up his ship and left him stranded on that barren world to die.
No Senzu Beans.
No Dragon Balls.
No healing chambers.
Nothing that could save him.
If not for knowing the story's future—and remembering that Whis loved good food—Gran might've died the very day he arrived.
Three years had passed since then.
And now—finally—he was staring at that damned second-rate prince again.
A spark of excitement flickered in his chest.
This time, Vegeta… let's see who's laughing when I'm done with you.
"Three years?" Vegeta frowned. "I've only been on this planet a day. So you're not one of this world's natives, then?"
Raditz and Nappa exhaled in relief. Judging from the boy's tone, he clearly wasn't a native inhabitant.
"Vegeta," Gran sneered. "Three years, and it seems you've gotten even dumber.
If I were a native, how would I know your name?"
"You…!"
A vein bulged across Vegeta's forehead. Though furious, he didn't attack—he simply glared, studying the boy carefully.
"Huh?" Gran tilted his head, mildly surprised.
He'd just insulted Vegeta to his face—yet the proud Saiyan hadn't struck him? That was odd.
Wasn't this guy the one who valued pride more than life itself?
Who the hell is this kid? Vegeta thought grimly.
The boy looked around eight or nine years old, dressed in strange, divine-looking attire.
Despite being the same age, he was noticeably taller than Vegeta.
And those two beside him… they wore matching garb, exuding an aura unlike any mortal's.
Everything about them screamed unnatural.
Raditz and Nappa watched silently, still unable to place this "Gran."
But the truth was simple: Gran had changed—drastically.
After his dimensional ascension to the Supreme Kai level, and later his appointment as a Candidate for God of Destruction,
a faint, divine pressure had begun to radiate from him—subtle, yet unmistakably godlike.
No wonder none of them recognized him at first glance.
"Still can't tell who I am?" Gran smirked. "Then I'll give you a hint.
Three years ago, you abandoned one of your own.
That person—was me."
It wasn't a hint. It was practically a confession.
"Abandoned… three years ago?" Vegeta muttered. "Then you're… a Saiyan too—"
Before he could finish, Raditz's eyes went wide.
"V–Vegeta… it's him! It's Gran!!"
Nappa's jaw dropped. "Y–yeah! It's him! But… how?! How is he not dead?!"
Gran?
Hearing that name, Vegeta's pupils contracted.
He looked closer—and finally, it clicked.
Saiyan children aged slowly. Even at ten or so, they rarely grew beyond a meter in height.
Gran was no different—small, round-faced, his bright eyes glinting with childish fire.
He looked almost harmless.
Almost.
Among the grim, battle-worn Saiyans, only Gran had that deceptively innocent face.
"It really is you!" Vegeta blurted. "You were supposed to die on that planet! How are you still alive?!"
"Hahaha! Of course you'd think that!"
Gran laughed wildly. "You called me the disgrace of the Saiyan race—you wanted me dead!
Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm alive and well.
And now I'm back… for revenge.
Surprised?"
"You? Revenge? Hahahahaha!"
Now it was Vegeta's turn to laugh uncontrollably.
Raditz and Nappa exchanged glances. Whatever miracle had kept Gran alive, he clearly wasn't thinking straight.
This was Vegeta, after all—the prince of Saiyans, with a power level of 6,000!
"Impressive," Vegeta said coldly. "You managed to survive that hell.
You should've stayed hidden and lived quietly.
But instead, you show up before me… talking about revenge?"
His gaze sharpened. "If you want to die so badly, I'll gladly oblige."
Vegeta raised a hand, ready to strike.
"Wait, Vegeta!"
Raditz blurted out, trembling but resolute. "Didn't we say we'd gather all surviving Saiyans?
Gran's alive—that means one more fighter! Maybe we should spare him—"
But before he could finish
"You're teaching me what to do?"
Vegeta's kick crashed into Raditz's gut, sending him flying hundreds of meters before slamming into the dirt.
Nappa froze. He'd been about to say the same thing—but now? He wisely kept his mouth shut.
"I hate when people tell me what to do," Vegeta growled. Then his tone cooled again.
"Still… Raditz has a point."
He turned back toward Gran, eyes narrowing. "If you kneel and follow me again, I'll forgive your earlier insolence."
"???"
The Supreme Kai and Kibito stared, dumbfounded.
Was this child insane? Did he have any idea who he was talking to?
"Three years, and you haven't changed one bit," Gran said softly, glancing toward the battered Raditz. "Still arrogant. Still cruel."
"Arrogant? Cruel?" Vegeta snorted. "We're Saiyans. That's who we are!
I was born with a power level of one thousand—now it's six thousand!
I've got talent, I've got strength—so why shouldn't I be arrogant?"
He pointed at Gran, then at himself with his thumb.
"Gran, I'll ask you once more. Follow me again, and I'll forget your disrespect.
Now—what's your choice?"
Vegeta smirked confidently.
There was no way this worthless brat would dare defy him.
"My choice?"
Gran's lips curved upward.
"You, Vegeta? You think you're worth following?"
His voice cut like a blade, sharp and mocking.
"You're trash—and you think you deserve my allegiance?"
