The teacher finished writing on the board, eventually turning back toward the class with a small nod. "We have a new student joining us today," they announced, gesturing toward the door.
Asia stepped forward, hands clasped gently in front of her as she took a small breath. "It's nice to meet you all! My name is Asia Argento, and I'm currently staying with Sun Jing!" she said, her voice carrying clearly through the room. "Please take care of me!"
"What?!" Matsuda's voice rang out as he shot up from his seat, while Motohama rushed forward and grabbed Sun Jing by the collar of her blazer. "How the hell did you pull someone as cute as her?!"
"Yeah! Tell us your secrets!" Matsuda added.
"Issei," she said calmly. "get your friends before I kill them."
Issei flinched and immediately rushed over, grabbing both of them and dragging them back. "Come on, you idiots! She's not joking!" he snapped, forcing them away before things escalated any further.
Once things settled, Asia made her way to her seat, which had been placed neatly between Issei and Sun Jing. She sat down carefully, glancing between the two with a small, hopeful smile. "Did I do okay?" she asked.
"Of course you did!" Issei answered instantly, leaning forward with enthusiasm. "If anyone gives you trouble, just leave it to me. I'll handle it!"
Sun Jing gave a small nod of agreement, though she didn't say much, already leaning back in her chair.
A moment passed before Issei spoke again, a bit more casually this time. "So, are you two free after school? We could hang out or something."
Asia brightened slightly. "I don't have any plans," she said before turning to Sun Jing. "What about you?"
Sun Jing hesitated for just a second. "Uh… I've actually got a date tonight."
Several girls in the classroom froze before snapping their attention toward her all at once. "A date?" one of them repeated, disbelief written all over her face.
"Oh no," Sun Jing muttered under her breath, already realizing what was about to happen.
In an instant, a group of girls crowded around her desk, voices overlapping as they bombarded her with questions.
"With who?!"
"Since when?!"
"Where are you going?!"
"I'm just taking Aika out, we're not a couple yet." Sun Jing says, the group of girls then went to both Aika.
It didn't take long to realize these weren't just random classmates. This was the same group that had somehow formed a fan club around Sun Jing, treating her like something of a celebrity.
Sun Jing leaned back slightly, clearly annoyed but not surprised, answering none of their questions as they kept pressing.
Meanwhile, Asia sat quietly in her seat, her hands resting in her lap as she watched the scene unfold. The excitement around Sun Jing was impossible to miss, but something about it made her expression soften in a different way.
So… she's going on a date, Asia thought, her gaze lowered slightly. Does that mean she's… with someone?
She hadn't expected the thought to bother her, but there was a faint weight in her chest that she couldn't explain.
"Is something wrong?" Issei asked, noticing the subtle change in her expression.
Asia quickly shook her head. "No, it's just… I was hoping the three of us could spend some time together," she admitted softly. After a small pause, she glanced back toward the crowd surrounding Sun Jing. "Is she always this popular?"
Issei followed her gaze and let out a small, awkward laugh. "Yeah… pretty much," he said. "Honestly, it's been like that ever since she showed up."
-------------
The rooftop was quiet compared to the noise of the classroom, the faint sound of students drifting up from below as the wind gently rattled the chain-link fence. Sun Jing leaned back against it, one arm resting loosely at her side while the other held a bottle of soda, the carbonation fizzing softly as she took a sip.
Issei sat cross-legged on the ground nearby, unwrapping his lunch while sneaking glances at her. "So… you're dating Aika now?" he asked, trying to sound casual, though the curiosity in his voice was obvious.
Sun Jing didn't even look at him. "No," she replied simply. "We're not a couple or anything." She tilted the bottle slightly, watching the bubbles rise before taking another drink. "I just promised her a second date. I'm taking her to the fair tomorrow since it's the last day it's in town."
Issei nodded slowly as he chewed, processing that. "Ah, I get it," he said after swallowing. There was a brief pause before he spoke again, a little more hesitant this time. "So… do you like her like that?"
Instead, she tilted her head back, her gaze drifting upward toward the sky. The clouds moved lazily overhead, stretching across the blue in slow, uneven patterns. For a moment, it looked like she had completely checked out of the conversation.
"Asia wanted all three of us to hang out tomorrow," Issei added, glancing at her.
"I'll make it up to her," Sun Jing said, her tone calm but certain, as if she had already decided that much.
A few seconds passed before she spoke, her voice quieter this time, less certain than usual. "As for Aika…"
She trailed off, her eyes still fixed on the sky. "I… don't really know."
It wasn't like her to hesitate, and even Issei noticed that. Normally, Sun Jing answered everything without thinking, blunt and straightforward. But this time, there was something different... something unsure.
The rooftop door opens revealing Asia.
"There you two are!" Asia's voice called out, a mix of relief and excitement as she stepped onto the roof.
Issei looked up from where he was sitting, waving casually. "Hey, Asia. Enjoying your first day?"
She nodded eagerly, her smile bright. "Yup! I even made a new friend." She paused for a moment, tilting her head slightly. "She can be a bit… touchy, but she's really nice."
Sun Jing gave a small nod of approval. "That's good. Making friends is kind of the point of being here." She pushed herself off the fence, straightening up. "School's about to end anyway. We should start heading out."
"R-right!" Asia said.
As they made their way toward the stairwell, Sun Jing slowed slightly. "You two head to the front gates. The limo should be waiting." She slipped her hands into her pockets. "I've got something to take care of first."
Issei raised a brow but didn't question it. "Got it. Don't take too long."
Asia glanced at her for a second before nodding. "Okay… we'll be waiting."
Sun Jing gave a small wave before turning off on her own, heading back down through the building.
A few minutes later, she was in the old school building.
Inside the Occult Research Club room, Rias sat comfortably on the couch, a book resting in her hands. What caught Sun Jing off guard wasn't the book itself, but the thin-framed glasses resting on Rias's face.
Sun Jing paused near the doorway, her eyes narrowing slightly. "You wear glasses?"
Rias looked up, a small smile forming as she closed the book. "Hm? Sometimes." She adjusted them slightly before standing and walking over, taking a seat beside Sun Jing. "Why? Do you like it?"
"I was just curious," Sun Jing replied flatly.
Rias studied her expression for a moment before letting out a soft sigh. "You're no fun," she said, though there was a hint of amusement in her voice.
"Anyway, I wanted to thank you for letting Asia stay with you. I know you don't mind, but I still wanted to say it properly."
"It's not a big deal," Sun Jing said with a small shrug. "I've got more space than I know what to do with."
Rias nodded, then leaned back slightly, her gaze becoming more focused. "There was something else I wanted to talk about."
Sun Jing glanced at her. "Yeah?"
"I'd like you to help me train Issei," Rias said.
"I've realized I've been… coddling him too much," Rias continued. "Now that I know he possesses the Boosted Gear, it's only natural that he begins proper training. And given your strength, you're the most suitable person to help."
Sun Jing let out a quiet breath, rubbing the back of her neck. "I'm not exactly great at teaching," she admitted. "Or talking, for that matter."
"I'm not asking for perfection," Rias said calmly. "Just a little guidance is all."
Sun Jing thought about it for a moment before nodding slightly. "I'll help. Just not every day. I've got my own training to keep up with."
"That's fine," Rias replied. "I'll mostly be working on his stamina for now. Nothing too intense."
There was a brief pause before she added, "Kiba has also mentioned wanting to spar with you."
Sun Jing shrugged. "I'll fight him sometime."
