Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Two weeks later,my siblings returned from their respective boarding schools. Mum was overjoyed to see her children again and she had prepared their favorite foods awaiting their arrival. I scoffed as I listened to her and my siblings chattering in the living room. I immediately wore my head set to block out their voices and enjoy my peace and quiet time alone.

Since I returned,I had refused to have dinner with my parents to prevent any conversation about my expulsion. Rather,I had mine my room and even when my siblings returned I still refused to go down for dinner not because I hated them but because I knew Mum and Dad were going to tell them about my expulsion and I didn't want to be there to listen to them , especially Vernessa ,the golden child, advice. I didn't want to hear Victor's laughter or giggles.

I tried pushing the thought away but it refused to go ,i found myself thinking about my place in my family and i couldn't help but feel like an outcast and a loser. After all, that was how they made me feel. I disliked all of them and how they made me feel. I wanted to be anywhere but where they were. I breathed and tried to hold back thwctears that threatened to spill.

A day to the beginning of another term,Dad came to my room to give me the most unexpected and unpleasant news ever. "I'm sending you to Oliver High School",he said dropping tje bomb on me without warning,"What? No! There's no way I'm going there, NEVER",I bursted out," You are going there whether you like it or not and that is final", he said with a note of finality. " I hate you. I hate you with every fiber of my being", I said in anger," And i don't care",he replied. I stomped out of my room in anger brushing pass him not wanting to be in the same room with him or breathe the same air with him.

Out in the garden,I laid on my favorite part of the garden. It was reserved and quiet except for the chirpping of birds that could be heard occasionally. No one would know someone was there unless the person comes closer or the person made a sound.

The morning was still young and promising. It was a bit chilly and the chill breeze blew against my bare skin stinging me. I let out a sigh as I breathed in the air that was both chilly and smelled like grass. Usually,it gave me an unusual peace of mind and took and mind off everything but today was different,it wasn't working as my anger as frustration remained boiling my insides. Various thoughts clouded my mind as I laid down on the grass throughout the early part of the morning. By the time the sun began to rise I knew it was time to go back in due to the sun's heat and rays.

My Dad have me one of those stares and I gave him one mine too. We stared at each other like that until I climbed the stairs and was out of view. I hated him much and felt like strangling him with my bare hands. I freshened up and went downstairs to grab some snacks ignoring my Mum and Sister's presence. I took what I came for and went back to my room.

That evening after dinner,my Dad told everyone about his intention to send me to Oliver High and for the first time she objected,"No,no, no,you are not going to send her there. I do not like that school one bit. I know she is rebellious and disobedient but I won't...", " How dare you challenge my authority in my own house?",he thundered," I'm... I'm not challenging you, I'm just...", she said feighting and trailed off. Vanessa quickly cut in," Mum, I'm sure it's for the best. Emily is getting out of control ",she said," Best?",my Mum asked her," What do you know about best?",she asked her. My Dad's voice put an end to her confrontation,"That's enough, Emily would be going there an that is final",he said and walked off. Mum gave Vanessa one of those looks she gave me and I was overjoyed.

I couldn't believe my Mum stood up for me and objected to her husband because of me and even shouted at the golden child. My Mum actually took my side .Those were the thoughts that ran through my mind as I laid on my bed happy. However,my joy was short lived as they had an argument that night that led to her being beaten up. I couldn't sleep with a smile on my face like I wanted. Rather, her screams of pain and the sounds of commotion coming from their room had me tossing in bed , haunting my thoughts for the better part of the night.

The following day before Vanessa left for school, she came to offer her "sisterly advice" which my blood boill,"Why can't you just leave me alone ?!", I screamed at her,"Emily, you can't continue to...",she was about saying when I cut her off,"Why don't you stick to being the golden and better daughter and let me be", I told her harshly,"Get the hell out of my room",I yelled at her. Slowly, she walked out. She turned to say something but I quickly slammed the door in her face.

I had had enough for one morning. M um showed up for breakfast wounded ,my Dad kept staring at me intensely, Victor gave me a scornful look each time our eyes met and now,Vanessa showed up to advice me,it was all too much for one morning.

With my siblings gone,I was left at home with my parents and since Oliver High didn't accept students mid term I had to wait at home for an entire term which wasn't the first time. However, Dad's stares were makimg me uncomfortable. Hence,I only came out of my room when I was sure he wasn't at home. Also, after the incident,my mother began giving me a cold shoulder until I left for school.
