Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Across the entire battlefield, Agumon's Mini Flame was a one-shot wonder, felling an Unown with every hit. No single Unown could withstand a direct strike.

Even the level 9 Unown leader, grazed by a mere sliver of flame, was visibly in agony.

From both memory and performance, Mini Flame was clearly Agumon's signature move—its most proficient and powerful attack.

That said, Sharp Claw, the other signature move listed on the panel, was likely less potent than Mini Flame.

But that was before. Things were different now.

In this world, Agumon was no longer a Digimon but a bona fide Pokémon.

And what set Pokémon apart from Digimon?

Abilities!

Every Pokémon had one—a special trait with specific effects in and out of battle.

Agumon's ability was Sharp Claws, similar to Pokémon abilities like Iron Fist or Strong Jaw, boosting the power of claw-based attacks by a significant margin.

That margin? A precise 50% boost.

And Sharp Claw… well, the name made it obvious which body part it used.

In other words, when Agumon used claw-based moves, their power surged by 50%.

With that boost, Sharp Claw's power might not surpass Mini Flame, but it was at least on par.

"I wonder what it looks like in action," Aoyagi mused, standing behind Agumon, anticipation rising.

Leaping into the air, Agumon felt a searing, restless energy in its claws—a sensation it had never experienced before coming to this world.

But it had no time to savor it. Its eyes locked onto the black, odd-looking Pokémon just within reach.

This sneaky creature, hiding in the corner for an ambush, not daring to face Agumon head-on, had even targeted its first friend with a sneak attack.

A guy like that deserved to be sent flying.

Gauging the distance, Agumon swung its arm. Orange light surged over its white claws, forming a massive claw that covered half its arm, slashing fiercely at the Unown leader.

The Unown leader, in turn, saw Agumon vaulting into the air with Aoyagi's help, rapidly closing in.

And… on its claws, an energy so intense it stung the eyes just to look at.

It quickly assessed the situation.

This yellow-skinned dinosaur's combat power was terrifying. A mere graze from its fireball had nearly knocked it out from pain. It stood no chance of winning.

Worse, Agumon was leaping straight toward its current path, and with its injured body, it couldn't dodge quickly enough.

Its only option was to pour everything into Hidden Power to fend off the attack!

If it could block this strike…

No, it didn't even need to block it. Just delaying Agumon for a moment would be enough. Once the dinosaur fell back to the ground, it would have time to escape to the ruins' depths, where older, stronger Unown could deal with this human and his monster.

With that plan, the Unown leader unleashed Hidden Power with all its might.

A shimmering blue glow flickered, splitting into small blue energy orbs that danced like a water curtain, hurtling toward the oncoming Agumon.

Without checking the result, the leader turned and fled in the opposite direction.

This was its all-out Hidden Power. Though its body felt drained, it believed it was worth it.

Blocking the yellow dinosaur's attack might be tough, but buying a sliver of time? That was guaranteed.

The gap in their strength couldn't possibly be that wide.

It believed that firmly!

Until… the next second.

Snap!

A crisp sound echoed through the ruins.

The Unown leader froze.

Shouldn't Hidden Power's explosion sound like a booming roar? Why was it so sharp?

Could it be…?

A primal unease stirred within, but the Unown leader shoved it down. No way! Impossible!

Refusing to look back, it kept fleeing, even faster than before.

But then…

Snap!

Snap!!

Snap!!!

In an instant, sharp explosions rang out like firecrackers, one after another.

At the same time, a howling gust surged past, overtaking the Unown leader. It stumbled, slammed into the ruins' wall, and faded into nothingness.

In that moment, the Unown leader felt ice-cold dread. It didn't dare move.

The unease it had suppressed overwhelmed it. Trembling, it turned to look back.

Agumon stared at it calmly, claws poised in front of its body. The orange glow had vanished, and it was descending steadily to the ground.

Clearly, it had just struck Hidden Power.

But where was Hidden Power?

The Unown leader glanced around. Nothing. As if Hidden Power had never existed.

Trembling, its gaze fell to Agumon's claws, now on the ground.

They gleamed white, unscathed.

The only clue was a faint, familiar energy residue.

It was the aura of its Hidden Power.

Piecing it together, the Unown leader couldn't accept it.

It knew Agumon was stronger, but for its all-out attack to be casually obliterated in an instant, without even delaying Agumon for a few seconds? It was like a firework that fizzled out the moment it sparked.

It couldn't believe it!

But the reality was undeniable, and it broke down.

The Unown leader felt a surge of grievance, on the verge of tears.

That damn human! Why didn't you say you had such a monstrous ally? You kept harassing us every few days, luring us into this corner for a brutal beatdown.

All we wanted was to guard the ruins! Who did we ever hurt?

The more it thought, the angrier and more wronged it felt. Finally, it gave up resisting and burst into tears.

Seeing their leader cry, the other Unown's grievances poured out too. Especially the few knocked out by Agumon's claws, lying in pain on the ground, they wailed even louder.

Soon, the entire area echoed with cries and tears.

This scene baffled Agumon, who was about to finish the leader with another Mini Flame. Scratching its head, it looked to Aoyagi in confusion.

Aoyagi was equally stunned. Beaten and crying? What was that about…?

But on second thought, putting himself in the Unown's shoes, he had been kind of a pest. And now, with Agumon thrashing them… it did feel a bit like bullying.
