Chapter 17 - The lady in the meadows

Chapter 16: The lady in the meadows

It's been a few days since that day, and I can't seem to think straight. My head is full of unanswered questions. I'm afraid to ask the Captain directly, but one thing is stuck in my mind: What did Klaus mean when he shouted that the False God was trying to be reborn? I thought they were just false gods—where do they get that much power for reincarnation? And how did Kenji get those blades? I'll ask about it later, I guess.

As I walked around the fortress, I noticed there was a garden. It felt like the only peaceful place here. I stepped inside and saw a woman with long black hair standing among the flowers. I asked for her name, but with a quick, silent swift of the wind, she simply vanished. Who was that woman, and what was she doing here? I didn't dwell on it. I just sat in the flower meadow, watching the sunset with the gentle wind blowing past.

I must have drifted off.

The Vision of Fog

Something grabbed me, pulling me down into a place thick with fog. "Hello!" I yelled, but there was no response. I walked farther and farther, wondering where everyone was. I suddenly ran into a steep hill, slipped, and fell.

Then, I was instantly transported somewhere else—an ocean. I was yanked away again, and again, and again, teleporting through impossible landscapes until I suddenly woke up.

I was still sitting in the garden, staring at the spot where the woman had been. Weird, I thought. Did she do that? Was she connected somehow? I didn't know, but something strange had definitely just happened.

"Hey!" I yelled at the woman again, even though she wasn't there.

This time, I got a reply. "Hello," she said in a nice, soft, angelic voice.

"Who are you?" I demanded.

All she did was smile. And just like that, I blinked and she was gone again.

"Ugh!" I screamed in frustration. "If you're going to keep disappearing, then don't come back!"

Kenji overheard me from the hallway. "What are you screaming for? We're supposed to be getting rest, huh?"

"Nothing," I replied, quickly regaining my composure. "Just a bug."

I went back to my room, still wondering if the woman was human, or something else entirely. An angel?

... It's short again 😭 😭 😔
