Chapter 118 - Honkai Dream Swap - 118

"This... this is..."

Wendy turned her head, staring blankly at Lynelle's innocent expression, then dazedly glanced at the targeting box in her vision. The Deadzone in her hand felt both ready and utterly pointless to fire.

"How... how did you do this?"

"I just quickly filtered through the data you transmitted to me..." Lynelle guiltily averted her eyes.

"It didn't seem that hard, and I happen to know a little about this kind of ability... As for how I projected the image directly into your visual field through the sensors, didn't I mention before that I have some minor psychic abilities?"

"You call that a little...?"

Wendy shook her head in disbelief, the box in her vision wobbling along with the motion.

It was like she'd been given a straight-up aimbot.

No matter how the target dodged, as long as she kept feeding Lynelle sensory data, Lynelle could send back this tracking marker with almost no delay.

"Whatever, I'll just take a test shot..."

Wendy raised her Deadzone, aiming at the most distant target in her view, and gently squeezed the trigger.

As everyone knew, the reason Alloy Chariot Honkai Beasts were called that was because they were like they had hyperactivity disorder.

Despite their small size, their movement speed was extremely high.

If it weren't for their low attack power and the easy counters during their attack recovery frames, these beasts definitely wouldn't be ranked as the most pathetic.

But, hitting a zigzagging Alloy Chariot with a ranged attack required some serious skill. At least in St. Freya's sniper training courses, the students' results were usually... abysmal.

However... Wendy's situation was different.

Even though Wendy was at least several kilometers away from that Alloy Chariot, even though the town's environment was incredibly complex, filled with countless buildings in between, even though Wendy took the shot completely casually, just aiming at the box without a care that a long wall stood just a dozen meters in front of her...

After a nearly silent gunshot... the Honkai Beast's signal vanished from the sensory map.

Now it was Lynelle's turn to stare dumbfounded at Wendy.

Damn, that was badass, no exaggeration.

This person had just shot at a wall, and the bullet, on Lynelle's map, moved like it had auto-pathfinding, taking the shortest route, weaving around four or five corners before blasting that poor Honkai Beast into shimmering particles.

Ahem, "Well, that's actually thanks to you..." Wendy said, somewhat embarrassed. "Your marker was so detailed, it saved me all the calculations needed for my own targeting. So, I could control the force on the bullet much more precisely..."

"Then, how about..." Lynelle ventured, "You turn off your initial filtering too? Just send me the raw airflow sensory map?"

"Huh? But that data is really abstract..."

"Don't worry. I have just a little bit of confidence in my analytical skills and processing power."

Lynelle was genuinely curious now to see just what Wendy's upper limits were when paired with her own abilities. "So, send it!"

"Alright..." Wendy swallowed nervously. Even for someone as bold as her, this was a bit hard to imagine.

"Then get closer to me. The sensory radius is nearly ten times larger than the analysis radius, so the data I'd be transmitting is huge... If you're too far, there might be lag."

"Oh..." Lynelle glanced at the wearable sensor attached near Wendy's ear, thought for a moment, then decisively walked behind Wendy.

She gently wrapped her arms around Wendy's body from behind, resting her cheek against Wendy's ear. "Is this okay?"

"W-Wait, that's a bit too close..." The sudden, unexpected closeness of the pink-haired girl, her warm breath and soft pink hair brushing against the sensitive skin of her ear, sent a shiver through Wendy, who had never been this intimate with anyone before.

She never would have guessed that Lynelle, who seemed a bit shy earlier, could suddenly be so bold.

But, seeing the girl gazing intently at her sniper rifle, Wendy began to understand. Was she... completely unaware that she was breaching normal social distance?

Was Lynelle... a bit of a space cadet?

"F-Fine... let's just go with this." Considering Lynelle might genuinely be a bit airheaded, and that she'd probably get flustered about it later, plus for some reason Wendy found she didn't really mind this person who radiated a strange sense of familiarity, the considerate Miss Wendy decided to ignore their rather cuddly, ambiguous posture for now, forcing her focus onto the sensory detection range.

"Since the map data changes dynamically with the airflow, the amount of information might be pretty huge. You ready for this, Lynelle?" Out of concern, Wendy gave a specific warning.

After all, Wendy didn't yet know Lynelle's true nature as the Herrscher of Corruption.

For a normal person using a brain-computer interface, forcibly inputting such a massive data stream really did carry the risk of short-circuiting their brain.

"Don't you worry... I have some confidence in my processing power." Lynelle sounded almost eager.

Seeing Lynelle so confident, Wendy didn't try to dissuade her further. Silently, she closed her eyes. Vast streams of data, following the continuous expansion of the girl's detection range, began flooding into Lynelle's mind like a burst dam.

"That really is a lot..."

"Huh? Do you need me to—" Hearing Lynelle's murmur, Wendy, who had been tense, immediately asked with concern.

She really didn't want this partner, who suited her so perfectly, to end up in the hospital on their first day together because of her own mistake.

"No... what I meant is..." A mischievous smile played on Lynelle's lips. "Get ready."

The next instant, the scenery before Wendy's eyes transformed completely.

Wendy couldn't quite describe the feeling, but to her now, the entire world seemed utterly transparent.

It was like she had a god's-eye view.

Across a range of hundreds of kilometers, every movement, detected through the airflow and processed by Lynelle, was converted into a visual feed perfectly tailored for her perception.

She could even "see" that, back at the Oceania branch base, Ragna was just setting down a document, about to sneak out a hidden bottle of strong liquor for a quick nip.

Wendy silently loaded the smallest caliber round she had on her, then raised the rifle.

A few seconds later...

BANG!

"?!"

Seeing the bullet that had seemingly come from nowhere instantly "open" her bottle for her, Ragna jolted in fright, instinctively drawing a dagger from a hidden holster under her maid-style skirt.

Then, a message from Wendy popped up in her comms.

"Professor Ragna, you're running low on your drinking quota for this week, you know?"

Ragna: "O.O?"

Meanwhile, back at their spot, Wendy lowered her rifle, spun around, and grabbed Lynelle in a hug, her face unable to conceal her excitement.

"Lynelle! Lynelle! We're just... we're the perfect partners, made for each other!"

"Achoo!"

Far away at St. Freya, Kiana, diligently cramming her textbooks, suddenly sneezed.

"Feels weird... Is Lynelle thinking about me or something?"
