Chapter 4 - Four

After getting back, Mo Shengsheng was stopped by the butler before she could even take two steps into the house.

"Madam, the sir called to say he would not be back early today and there is no need to wait for him."

Mo Shengsheng, whose legs were aching from all those hours of standing, forced herself not to scream in his face. She was a well bred lady. Albeit one with a short temper.

"Am I also not coming back?"

She caught a faint flicker of confusion in his eyes and put on a harmless smile.

"You blocking the door is making me think I'll also have to stay out late. Or maybe not come back at all if that's what you'd like"

The butler seemed to have only realized his position made it impossible to go inside without squeezing against him and made way gesturing with his arms.

"Surely you jest madam. That could never be my intention."

Mo Shengsheng replied breezily.

"I don't have time to play mind games with you."

Before he could respond, she walked quickly to her room and took the shoes off instantly sighing in relief. She chided herself for choosing beauty over comfort.

Oh well, if she had to choose again, she would still pick based on beauty. That was why her wardrobe was filled with impractical shoes she couldn't wear for over forty minutes without feeling like her feet were about to get detached from her body. But they were all pretty so it's a win.

She massaged her legs for a while then picked up her phone. They were two missed calls from the same person.

She noticed it earlier while coming back from the mall but didn't answer in order not to arouse the driver's suspicion. Fortunately her phone was on silent mode and he didn't notice anything wrong.

She called back and the other party picked up after two rings. She was in a much better condition now than last time and could casually joke with him.

"Senior, if I didn't know you were so busy I would have thought you were perched beside your phone waiting for my call."

The person on the other side laughed.

"That's not far from the truth. I was waiting for you to call back and would keep checking my phone every now and then to make sure I didn't miss it."

Mo Shengsheng couldn't help but smile.

"It wasn't convenient to answer your call a while ago so I had to call back. I hope you won't hold it against me."

He laughed softly again.

"How could I?"

He paused slightly and then said in a much heavier tone than before.

"I already sent the..files to you mail. You can check it out later."

From his tone, Mo Shengsheng knew that he really did find evidence. However, instead of feeling sad, she just found it ironic.

"I'll do that senior, thank you for your help. I'll treat you to a meal some other time."

He didn't refuse.

"Then I'll look forward to it."

Lu Mingchuan hung up the phone and turned to the man behind the desk.

"It's done."

He was silent for a long time before replying.

"Hmmm. What did she say?"

Lu Mingchuan was slightly speechless. Who was it that forced him to put his phone on speaker mode and now he was trying to act like he didn't hear anything.

"I don't know. Should I call her for you to ask yourself?"

The man glared at him but Lu Mingchuan was unmoved. He had been with the man long enough to know when he was really angry and when he wasn't.

He noticed the man twirling the pen in his hand. Something he usually did when he was nervous or had something on his mind.

"Do you—what do you think she's going to do after seeing the evidence?"

No names were called but Lu Mingchuan knew exactly who he meant.

"Junior sister is a strong woman. The fact that she asked for evidence shows that she already knew and just wanted proof to back up her knowledge."

The man let out a hum of agreement.

"Do you think she's going to divorce him?"

To this, Lu Mingchuan didn't have an answer. Everyone knew how much Mo Shengsheng loved Liu Yutong.

When it came to love, people could become extremely unrecognizable so he didn't dare to say he knew exactly what she would do.

But he hoped she would choose to leave. For his mental health. For all their mental health actually. Or else, this man might go mad and drag them all with him.

Seeing that he didn't dare to answer, the man didn't press on. He was unsure as well and had only wanted Lu Mingchuan to reassure him.

Unfortunately, Lu Mingchuan knew him well enough to know that baseless reassurance would do him no good. He would take it way too seriously and get his hopes up.

Lu Mingchuan noticed him in a daze and didn't say anything else. With his current abilities, he would've definitely gotten the evidence but not in such a short time. If not for 'external' help, he wouldn't have been able to do it. The man who usually minded his business when it came to his affairs was quite proactive this time.

The moment he heard it was for Mo Shengsheng, he didn't waste any time and started calling in favors. Not to mention, Liu Yutong that b*stard was paying quite a lot to put it under wraps so it took quite a bit of calls but he was hell bent on getting detailed evidence.

Sometimes he wished his friend didn't love her so much but then thought about himself. He wasn't qualified to point fingers. It would be like the pot calling the kettle black.

Other times, he asked himself how she could be so cruel as to not look at his friend even once? But rationally, he knew she did nothing wrong. She was living her life blissfully unaware that someone would give up their life for her. And that wasn't her fault.
