A few hours later, Cassandra had left the Drayke's mansion and was back at the office.
She was in a foul mood.
She sat behind her desk, perfectly still. With her hands resting on the polished wood surface, her eyes stared blankly at the papers in front of her but she wasn't seeing them.
Her mind was elsewhere, lost in thought...
"You will reject that valueless human mate of yours. Or else..."
Her mother's sharp and threatening words echoed in her head and her jaw tightened the more, if that was possible, hurting her but the pain was nothing compared to the one in her heart.
"We need to protect our mate at all costs." Her wolf chipped in, howling in her head as if Cassandra didn't know this was the right thing to do.
"Of course, that is non-negotiable!" She almost snapped but the wolf kept howling as if to say that wasn't enough as an assurance.
"At all costs..." Cassandra repeated under her breath, her head already thinking of how to go about this.
