Chapter 26 - Nen master battle

Even though Roman had spent two weeks refining his Nen after obtaining Post-Morem Nen. There was still a lot of room to further his growth.

While he hadn't become a rubber man like Hisoka, or rather a soul man in his case.

There were many other effects to explore.

So a month passed by, as Menchi reached the 200th floor and fought a number of opponents, achieving victories in every match.

Roman focused on himself, while coaching and showing Menchi a number of battle videos.

Secretly wondering if she could defeat Enel.

He had powerful abilities, yes. But Menchis Nen was just as strong thanks to the powerful food she consumed.

Internally he knew she didn't have a chance, she was young and not as insightful as a reincarnator. Not to mention her ability was heavily support sided, contrary to Enel's.

Taking another month for her to accumulate ten wins on the 200th floor. Enough to finally challenge a floor master.

Roman finally left the hotel to watch the battle in person.

"Welcome Menchi 'the fire and ice Dagger Duchess' with ten wins and zero losses challenging the floor master. The reigning champion, Ryo 'the Spring Boxer!'" The announcer generated a sense of excitement in the crowd.

As Menchi stepped out, her knives were already in hand, fully charged, corresponding pots tied to her waist.

Following Ryo, who wore special boxing gloves and shoes.

Menchi knew about Ryo's ability and Ryo knew about Menchi's ability, there was no point in hiding them.

Both of them glancing at the ref nearby and giving them a nod. The ref stepped forward to initiate the fight.

"Begin!" The ref darted backward as both Menchi and Ryo unleashed their aura.

Ryo shot forward with great speed, his feet extending unnaturally revealing springs as if his feet weren't real but a contraption with springs inside.

Causing Menchi to stab his blue knife into the ground and from it ice expanded outward.

Not chilling the environment but making the ground slippery.

Menchi had the advantage in choosing her opponent, so it was clear that she was prepared.

Raising her red kitchen knife, she shot a blast of heat at her opponent, who struggled to change directions.

Forcing the man to punch forward early.

Just like his feet, his arm extended by springs, this time three meters long. Blocking the fire ball before it could get close.

Focusing more aura than he wished into his feet, he broke the ice with each step. Enough to gain traction and fight normally.

Engaging Menchi in a close range fist vs knife fight.

His hands weren't normal and were more than enough to block the knife's edge.

Not to mention, his reach was far beyond Menchis, allowing him to attack while forcing Menchi to defend.

Thankfully she had blades of cool and hot to send and even the battle out.

But as time went on, the icy ground was destroyed and Ryo didn't have to waste so much energy on his feet.

Furthermore, Menchi was slowly running out of ice and fire energy to combat Ryo's longer range strikes.

So unleashing what remained of her heat and cold stored in her knives. She unleashed an overwhelming flurry of attacks to force Ryo back and create a fog to obscure the arena.

Gaining enough time to recharge her knives with her pots and even coat the ground with ice once again.

The fog cleared quickly and the battle resumed.

But something was different about Ryo.

The tops of his gloves and bottoms of his feet. radiated a weird energy.

Stepping on the ice didn't seem to matter anymore.

Upon closer inspection every step he took gave the ground a spring-like effect, amplifying his speed. As if one spring wasn't enough.

But Menchi was prepared, and reacted accordingly.

Placing the blue pot onto the ground and the blue knife into it and through it somehow.

A flick of her wrist allowed spikes of ice to rise from the ground, greatly inhibiting and even threatening Ryo.

Not able to get close to her, he circled the arena. Staying away from Menchis range.

But after Ryo did a full circle the ground flashed, smirking he even spoke. "Have you ever heard of a trampoline?"

The next second Menchi was sent flying into the air, launching up from the surface.

This ability was something she didn't anticipate. But it didn't matter.

Unsummoning and resummoning her blue pot and knife.

She forcefully recharged it while defending blows from everywhere while bouncing.

Ryo sent extended punches from below and even pumped high with the help of the trampoline-like floor to send blows from above.

Meanwhile the aura on the surface of Ryo's glove attached to her, giving her likewise springy effects.

Each blow enhances knockback effects, sending her flying.

But Menchi just gritted her teeth, putting her knives together to block the next blow and erupting with all the strength she could muster.

When the blow came, Menchi unleashed the fully charged kitchen knives together, weaving a net of ice and fire, while yelling. "Chefs Catch!"

Ryo could block strong bursts of fire and ice, but he couldn't block a net.

With his attack already launched, he could move his body out of the way, due to the nature of his ability But his arm would be caught, though that was the least of his worry's, the net was too strong and would definitely destroy his arm.

This terrified him.

So Ryo instead launched forward into the net to catch up with his fist.

He was valuing his arm over the match. Confident that the net couldn't kill him, only greatly injure him.

"Arrgh!"

Getting caught in the burning and freezing net, Ryo screamed and fell to the ground.

Menchi caught her breath and watched.

Ryo couldn't get out of the net, nor could he forfeit in the pain.

Menchi planned to cancel the net after Ryo looked damaged enough, but the ref stepped forward.

Appearing beside the net, striking Ryo and the net with a palm. The net receded and Ryo calmed before passing out.

"Winner Menchi 'the fire and ice Dagger Duchess.'"

Roman nodded silently, while glancing toward the other side of the stadium and seeing Enel.

From beginning to the end of the match, he had secretly been sending a hidden string across the stadium.

Touching Enel, a soul mark branded his soul unnoticed as the string vanished.

Making a mischievous grin appear on his face.

His Nen strings were nearly impossible to detect, small in size coupled with the disguising effects of In and his soul. Not to mention his skill and manipulation and much stronger Nen.

These reincarnators were like lambs to the slaughter.

It should be mentioned that Enel wasn't the only one.

In Romans time at Heavens Arena he had noticed a few of his previous soul marks on some of the reincarnators that took the hunter exam.

They had gotten in contact and had gathered together, no doubt planning to work together. But this lead him to a few more reincarnators.

With one in particular that was special, much more powerful than the others, even Enel.

The currently most public reincarnator, that everybody was no doubt comparing themselves to.

After following and investigating him, Roman discovered he was deeply involved with the mafia.

But after successfully giving him a soul mark, he breathed a sigh of relief.

The soul mark wasn't powerful, nor could it harm someone.

But it allowed him to track the mark, and communicate with it. Though the communication part wasn't useful against enemy's, he could hear the surface layer thoughts of the mark holder.
