Regaining mortal sensation his aura erupted twice as concentrated, he had awakened On, but it naturally fused into Nen. They were the same thing afterall, one tailored for the living, the other the dead.
And now his body now held properties of his nen.
He succeeded, stepping back into the physical world the pressure ability of the skeleton completely evaded him.
The red stream of plague went through him. He was both in the physical world and the soul world.
With a step he vanished, reappearing in front of the skeleton. His fist flashing across the skeleton's chest, sending it flying, and pausing the plague from spreading.
"Thank you." Roman spoke before taking his leave. Letting the skeleton resume its original position and eternal labor.
Glancing at Menchi, she followed.
They left the catacombs, but not the ruins.
The increase from post-Mortem Nen was too much. He needed to regain his original level of control and adapt to the changes.
Setting up camp, Roman entered meditation. While Menchi went hunting, to explore everything this place had to offer.
Two weeks passed as Menchi experienced light hypnosis from hypnotic butterfly's, evaded momentum charging boars, blindness from fireflies, and a number of other creatures with unique abilities.
Roman had meanwhile regained his fine control of his aura and learned of the new effects of his condition.
Now both Menchi and Roman had awakened their latent potential as conjures and manipulators. Acquiring a unique specialist ability.
This wasn't to downplay a specialist. In fact a specialist was very different from the ability they now had.
Just like in Kurapica's situation, it was just an ability. A special effect that amplified preexisting abilities, it couldn't be altered or changed.
A Hatsu ability was just a shell of a true Hatsu.
Roman for instance was manipulating the soul, the core of his Hatsu, with many abilities divided around it.
This new possession ability, he now had to become somebody else, was just another branch of his true Hatsu.
It wasn't an established Hatsu system nor could it become one.
With it came great restrictions just like Menchi's purple jar or Kirapicka's emperor's time that took his life span as fuel.
Of course the opening condition was that the body was alive and that he personally got rid of its soul.
Furthermore any abilities, Hatsu or memories native to the body would not be kept. They would all vanish with the soul they belonged to.
Lastly the body had to be taken over, with the soul perfectly transforming to mimic the body's likeness within ten seconds of the body's soul vanishing.
It was all acceptable to Roman. Like this he now had one more life saving ability. Something you never could have enough of.
Cleaning up their camp, they were ready to leave, making their way back the way they came.
Roman looked at Menchi and asked a question. "Did you ever find the grass scorpions?"
"Yup, I even was a boar that got tripped up by the long-tailed rats and never got back up." Menchi explained everything she experienced and explored.
The grass scorpions were scorpions that would disguise their tail as grass and work together with the long tailed rats.
When something was tripped by the rats, the hidden grass scorpions would hook them with poisonous tails. Holding the victim to the ground and killing them.
It was a rare instance of two different species working together.
"But I didn't explore those cats and crows." Menchi mentioned.
That would be the last thing they could investigate here.
The first star Hunter encyclopedia detailed the crows ability to frighten predators from their prey. But nothing about the cats or how they interacted with the crows.
Something that stood out to Roman as they noticed the strange relationship between the two species.
Exiting the field and reentering the forest, Menchi had long filled her purple jar with every creature of this secret area.
In the forest they were quickly noticed, followed and tracked again.
Roman and Menchi didn't expect the crowd and cats to do anything. So he secretly sent out a soul attack toward a cat hiding in the distance.
"ROAR!"
An unexpected noise came from the cat's direction. Shocking them both, to stop and turn to look.
Even the crow watching them nearby was shocked into flight.
But no other change occurred with the cat, rather a number of cats began to converge toward it.
As if curious or wishing to offer aid.
With dozens of cats flooding the area, Menchi couldn't help but speak. "What's going on?"
The cats weren't surrounding them, most weren't even paying them any attention.
"Hmph! Acting dumb are we?!" An unusual voice spoke beside them.
It was a cat.
"Huh, what do you mean, we were leaving? Also, you can speak?!" Menchi engaged in conversation with the cat, as Roman watched silently.
It seemed the cats were truly unique, having the ability to not only speak but also to have such developed minds.
Ignoring the outburst, the cat spoke again. "Everytime humans appear, they always cause trouble, this is definitely your doing!"
"Luckily my brother didn't die, or else there would be no saving you." The cat finished, walking away as the group of cats slowly began to disperse.
Allowing Roman and Menchi to resume their journey.
After thinking about the cats a little more, Roman came to a new realization.
The cats ability wasn't as it appeared. It didn't speak their language nor have such developed minds.
Rather they had the ability to communicate with other species and creatures.
That thought actually kinda scared him. Because it meant they might be able to mobilize the ire of every being in the forest to attack them. Including the trees.
Roman was confident he could escape, but the same couldn't be said for Menchi.
But after thinking about it he thought of a solution.
Roman could turn himself and other objects intangible, but not other people.
If Menchi could summon her pots and combine them into the purple jar and enter it. Then Roman could probably make the jar intangible, but he wasn't sure.
Even though—the jar was small enough that he was confident he could make the escape possible.
Exiting the special area, it concluded Menchi and Romans first successful adventure together.
It wouldn't be the last, but for now they would make the short journey to heaven's arena.
Roman wouldn't participate, but he had to see it.
It was a good pit stop, and Menchi would be able to participate. Meanwhile Roman could mark another reincarnation.
Taking a blimp across the continent.
Roman thought about Enel, the space user who had become a floor master very recently and after a six month hiatus. He had begun challenging every floor master.
Roman remembered the time the Zoldyck reincarnator was sent to heavens arena a few years ago, forcing the two to confront each other on the 200th floor.
Shadow vs space.
It was a sight to behold, and while Roman had long deduced Enels Nen catagory.
He couldn't be sure about Ikari, the supposedly twin brother of Illumi. Who had competed in heavens arena a year earlier and was completely defeated by Enel.
But Ikari took revenge, defeating Enel in a hard fought battle.
Every time Roman thought back at that battle, he couldn't be sure if those shadows were emitted, transmuted, manipulated or conjured into existence.
Furthermore, it begged the question of whether his Nen category was even those four, an not enhancer or specialist.
The Zolydic was a mystery.
Arriving in the city of Heavens arena. Roman and Menchi separated.
Roman went to find a hotel, and Menchi went to fight in Heavens Arena.
