Chapter 4 - fanfics or novels?

It was then her turn to replicate what she just witnessed, but she had no clue how to do the last three displays.

These were all of the basic and advanced techniques of life energy.

But as she went to replicate Romans performance she was not only clumsy and a little slow. But she kept a lot of her energy focused on her eyes to see everything she was doing.

A habit of a novice.

Though this was a brand new phenomenon to her so it was acceptable.

But Roman had to personally guide her through the last three skills.

With the first being an application of intent to hide or obscure this energy.

Which she grasped fairly easily, it was after all a more transmuted orientated technique.

And while he hadn't tested her talent, she coincided with a personality type most aligned with a transmuter.

A personality test that Hisoka had pioneered in the main story.

A personality most similar to one of the main characters, Killua the heir of the zoldyck family.

Then when it came to the second technique, she realized how simple it was.

Simply absorbing the energy, storing it into the body.

But on the third and last technique, she had a little trouble.

And that was to emit life energy into the surroundings to sense things.

Arguably the hardest technique, even for emitters and manipulators because of the amount of control needed just to perform.

Though the other techniques are easier to learn, they are definitely the hardest to master. Because of their demand in battle.

Taking their time to practice these skills, with Roman informing her more about the basic principles.

The principles that allowed somebody to increase their power and quantity.

Ignoring the fourth and most important basic principle to form a unique ability based on your identity.

But before they could finish up, a knock could be heard from the back door.

A door only ever used by their family to get in and out without having to disturb their business.

Though their family while out, would definitely not knock on the door and just open the door directly.

Both frowned, staring at the door, as the knocking repeated.

Not having a peep hole to observe the situation outside. Roman repeated the third technique that Menchi struggled with.

Closing his eyes and pushing his aura out of his body.

A scene revealed itself in his mind. A scene that only made him frown.

Glancing at Menchi he spoke. "Open the door."

Standing up she approached and opened the door in curiosity.

Though the appearance of two police officers surprised her.

Meanwhile the two officers had already suspected who was home with public record information.

Looking up and seeing Roman to confirm both children were there, the officer sighed.

He didn't know how to talk to these two kids but he had a job to do.

"Roman and Menchi correct?" He asked with slight reluctance.

But seeing the two nod, continued.

"Well, we will need you two to come with us back to the station. Your parents have gotten into an accident." The officer explained.

Both with concerned expressions followed the two officers, getting in the back of the cop car.

Menchi concerned for their parents wellbeing.

Roman concerned about how this would affect his future.

He never was able, nor wanted to develop closeness with his new parents.

It would only hold him back, and the last thing he wanted was restricted freedom.

He had planned to eventually leave his parents. But he wouldn't mind sending some money back to them when his pockets were full.

Though after they reached the station and entered a lounge room together.

They were greeted by a familiar face.

"Lewy!" Menchi exclaimed.

But the older man named Lewy only smiled sadly. Patting Menchi's head.

Lewy wasn't someone Roman knew very well, but was Menchi's best friend.

He was their family restaurant's head chef after all, and close friend to their parents.

"I'm sorry." Lewy spoke, trying to console them.

But it only made Menchi confused.

Meanwhile Roman guessed by his reaction that this accident that involved their parents wasn't a legal issue.

An issue that could affect their guardianship.

"What do you mean?" Menchi asked, confused.

Granting the old man realization that they didn't know what had occurred with their parents.

Making him sigh, it wasn't easy to break news about loss and who better than a family friend to do so.

Taking a seat prompting the two to follow.

Lewy revealed the story as the officers gave them some privacy.

And only ten minutes later was Menchi fast asleep with a teary face.

But Roman stayed fairly neutral after hearing of their family passing away.

Just silently sitting beside Menchi as their guardianship was transferred to Lewy to manage their inheritance until they came of age.

From that day on another head chef was hired, the restaurant continued operations without issue.

Lewy began to handle the finances, and Menchi began to become slightly more reclusive.

But she didn't stay away from cooking, though Menchi was sad she was too young to stay sad and commit to mourning.

After all this change interrupted their previous home schooling.

Only recently coming to the age to enter kindergarten.

In fact her more reclusive behavior was actually less of mourning and more filled with training her life energy.

It was clear their parents' passing would always be a sad memory for her, but nothing more. Just a fleeting childhood memory with slightly more significance.

Afterall she wasn't done growing, still very much a child.

She wasn't stained by this event.

Her childhood wasn't completely committed to bonding to her parents.

Though this wasn't to say there was no effect, her life energy reflected this change.

Every time she cooked her aura was always there helping her. Enhancing her dishes.

Before this incident it was almost completely subconscious.

Though now whether it was due to Romans guidance or the incident itself.

It was conscious and the dishes would now have special effects.

These effects were invaluable, from strengthening effects to the consumer, or recovery and healing.

It was an ability similar to biscuit Kruger's massage dolls.

Though Menchi's ability wasn't as strong when it came to recovery by a long shot.

It included healing and of course strengthening, allowing some one to grow stronger without training.

It was small but over time its effect would definitely be amazing.

Roman was even tempted to introduce abilities to her so she could formally use, improve and create them herself.

But held back because Menchi hadn't even realized the effect she was creating yet.

But Roman had decided it was about time to further his own ability.

While studying his ability to control his own soul, he realized souls didn't simply reside within a body, anchored.

But they were synchronized with their body, perfectly imitating it, even their life energy. Like a shadow of all things physical and spiritual.

Making him more aware of what life energy really was.

This discovery only truly came about when he began to sense other souls, especially Menchi's soul.

The only person he knew who could also utilize their life energy.

He did this by mimicking an advanced aura technique.

The technique to spread your aura into the surroundings to sense them.

Except that while Roman did do this, he simplified the process as an experiment.

Simply by touching someone he would send part of his soul into them to feel their soul.

He did this to know if others could feel his soul or their own soul after being initiated by it.

Similar to how he awakened Menchi's life energy, by sending his own into her body.

Other people would be able to sense something if foreign aura entered them.

Their own aura would actually awaken to confront the foreign aura.

But no such thing occurred with the soul.

Because of this Roman thought of two abilities to create.
