Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Hermione's Secret Competition

. Dylan spent almost all his weekends in the library, except for eating and sleeping. He

worked so hard that he barely finished reading the precise formula of the advanced potion.

Fortunately, he didn't need to go to Professor Snape to brew the potion right away. There was still a week before the next weekend, enough time for him to read the guide to safe use of potions.

What he had to do now was to further consolidate his knowledge of advanced potions.

In order to avoid making any mistakes that were too basic in front of Professor Snape.

Another half of the week passed in a flash.

  Thursday.

  Dylan woke up early again.

However, to his surprise, Harry and Ron also sat up at this moment.

The other two were still sleeping soundly.

  "Hey, good morning!" Ron stretched.

Dylan had already thrown back the quilt and got out of bed.

As he packed his schoolbag, he asked Harry and the others in surprise, "Why are you up so early today?"

"Of course it's for flying lessons today! I didn't sleep well all night!" Ron jumped out of bed.

  Flying lesson?

Dylan did remember there was flying lesson today; it was a new class added only in the second week of school.

But what was so exciting about it?

"It must be nice to be able to fly freely in the sky," Ron chuckled. "My brothers always describe it to me like that!"

Harry also got out of bed. "Once I learn flying lessons, I can sign up for Quidditch."

  Quidditch...

  not interested.

Instead of flying like a stupid flying bull, crashing into others in the sky,

I'd rather read a few more books.

Dylan had long lost interest in bumper cars.

Of course, they should probably be called bumper brooms.

"Dylan, have you learned about flying spells? You've learned how to fly now, right?" Harry blinked at him.

Dylan shook his head and corrected him, "There's no such thing as a flying spell. To fly, you usually need magical tools and a levitation spell."

"Once you use the levitation spell to make the broom fly, you can control its direction, and the speed will naturally depend on the quality of the broom."

This, in fact, shows that spells can be combined with magical tools.

Just like a wizard can use a wand to channel magic or amplify its effects.

The crafting of a magical flying broom must also involve many magical materials.

It takes a complex process to create.

This inevitably combines with the spell cast, amplifying the spell's effect.

This is why high-quality magical brooms fly faster and more nimbly than others.

"When it comes to flying, it's best to have an adult watching over you. Trying on your own can lead to unexpected dangers."

Dylan said he had never practiced flying at home.

"Oh my God, there's something you can't do, Dylan?" Ron looked surprised.

"...If I practice flying my broom at home and someone sees me, won't the Ministry of Magic arrest me?"

Ron blinked, realizing what was happening.

After all, he was a pure-blood wizard, while Dylan was a Muggle.

The wizarding world did have a law prohibiting the use of magic in the Muggle world.

Harry walked over to his backpack and said, "In class these past few days, I've heard many of my classmates say that they've practiced flying at home."     At that moment, Seamus also woke up.

Hearing Harry's words, he scrambled to his feet.

"I also heard someone, led by their parents, flew over the Giant Mountains on a broomstick!"

Ron rolled his eyes. "It must be that boastful Malfoy again!"

"The Giant Mountains? The environment over there is harsh. No one would fly there, would they?" Dylan smiled.

"The most important thing is, even pure-bloods, parents usually don't let their children try to practice on a broomstick before school starts."

Dylan looked at Ron. "Your parents don't allow you to practice before school starts?"

Ron nodded repeatedly. "Yes, George tried to teach me once, and my mother found out, and he got a good spanking!"

Seamus was stunned. "Is that so? Are they just bragging?"

  Dylan shrugged. "Perhaps."

Young wizards have strong pride and a strong desire to win.

Telling a few lies and bragging in front of their classmates is normal.

After packing his backpack, Dylan took out the notes Professor McGonagall had compiled for him, cradling them in his hands, planning to study them on the way.

He hadn't yet mastered the Levitation Charm, so he wasn't quite at the highest level, but he was already at level seven.

Regardless, he had mastered several max-level spells.

Even if they were Dark Arts, many magical arts sometimes shared commonalities.

Drawing lines with dots, creating a surface with lines.

For Dylan, learning magic wasn't so difficult.

Not to mention his increased magical talent thanks to the Achievement System.

Since almost everyone in the dorm was awake, Ron ran over to Neville and shook him awake.

  "Wake up! Let's go eat!"

  "Huh? What?"

  Neville was still dazed.

  "Stop being hysterical! Get up!"

At Ron's insistence, Neville got up.

He was quite obedient and didn't seem to be grumpy.

They quickly packed up and, for the first time together, left the dorm and headed to the Great Hall.

"This is the first time we've all sat together for breakfast!" Ron said.

"Dylan always wakes up too early. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't wake up." Harry found a relatively empty seat and sat down.

Dylan smiled and followed suit, saying nothing.

Not long after, Hermione entered the Great Hall. Seeing them gathered there, she approached.

Lately, because Dylan had excelled in his magic exercises in almost every class, earning him points for Gryffindor,

Hermione had been secretly competing with him.

But over time, she realized that Dylan seemed to have no need for entertainment at all; he was studying almost every moment!

And his knowledge was far beyond her reach!

Worst of all, the professor's questions to him were of a completely different level of difficulty than her own!

Hermione tried to answer the professor's questions to Dylan, but...

  the results were predictable.

So, after repeated setbacks, Hermione's attitude shifted slightly.

She no longer tried to compete with Dylan in class, but instead quietly observed him.
