Luo Yu's swordlike brows drew together, his expression unreadable. In an instant, the Great Sun Torch Dragon Martial Soul manifested, merging fully with his body. He seemed to transform into a being of living flame.
He bent his body, drew back his arm, and unleashed a punch in one smooth motion.
Scorching flames gathered at his fist.
With a thunderous swing, the room was flooded with blazing golden firelight as a massive flaming fist roared forward, smashing into the dilapidated ancient wooden door.
The purple-haired woman merely smiled, making no move to stop him, calmly watching Luo Yu display his power.
The fire fist struck the decayed wooden door with explosive force—yet not a single sound rang out.
A dark purple glow flashed across the door. The raging flames instantly became docile, quietly dissipating into nothingness.
Luo Yu's pupils shrank.
When he had entered earlier, the door had felt so fragile that a little force would have torn it apart. And now, it casually blocked his flame punch?
"What exactly is this place?" Luo Yu asked warily.
The purple-haired woman replied, "There's no harm in telling you. This is the Undead Tavern—the gateway to a divine inheritance."
Luo Yu's heart skipped a beat.
He knew of several famous inheritance grounds, but this place? He had never heard of it. Not even a rumor.
"Which god's inheritance is this?" he asked.
She shook her head.
"You haven't passed the trial yet. You're not qualified to know anything more."
"What trial?" Luo Yu pressed.
Her expression grew serious.
"Every divine inheritance has its own rules for choosing a successor. Only by passing the rules can one gain the right to learn more."
"And what are the rules here?" Luo Yu asked, already sensing he wouldn't be allowed to leave easily.
Excitement flickered in her eyes.
"Fight me—the tavern owner—and win. Then you'll earn the Illusory Spirit Wine."
"Illusory Spirit Wine?" Luo Yu frowned.
"You don't need to know its effects yet. Only those who obtain it and drink it are qualified to proceed to the next trial."
"And if I lose?" Luo Yu asked.
"If you lose, you drink the Wine of Loss and leave."
"Wine of loss… loss…" Luo Yu murmured. His body stiffened, and he let out a cold laugh."I don't know what the Illusory Spirit Wine does, but I'm guessing the Wine of Loss makes you lose quite a lot."
She smiled approvingly.
"You guessed correctly. After drinking it, your cultivation and memories will be stripped away. Then, you'll be able to walk out that door."
Luo Yu suddenly recalled the hollow-eyed civilians he'd seen in the nearby town.
Had they once been soul masters… who came here?
Staring at the unfathomable purple-haired woman, Luo Yu sneered.
"What if I choose not to participate?"
"Someone who refuses the rules?" she said softly, her eyes flashing."That would truly disappoint me."
In an instant, the temperature in the room plummeted.
Bone-chilling wind howled through the tavern, piercing flesh and burrowing straight into Luo Yu's marrow.
Luo Yu endured the freezing assault, his face darkening. Even a Titled Douluo would likely be nothing in front of this woman. Fighting head-on meant certain defeat.
"Stop," Luo Yu said sharply. "Explain the rules clearly."
Hearing that, the purple-haired woman smiled sweetly.
"The rules are simple. Defeat me, obtain the Illusory Spirit Wine, and proceed to the next trial."
Luo Yu laughed coldly.
"Do I really have a choice? Even if I refuse, I'd still have to defeat you to leave."
"That's not quite right," she replied lightly.
For a fleeting moment, an indescribable loneliness—one forged over a thousand years—flickered in her eyes. Then, as her gaze lingered on Luo Yu's striking appearance, excitement surged again.
"I choose to participate," Luo Yu said decisively.
Joking aside—without restrictions, fighting this unfathomable woman was suicide.
"Very well," she purred, licking her violet lips as she approached.
Her long legs were flawless, the liquid clinging to her skirt now motionless, as if frozen in place.
"What are you doing?" Luo Yu frowned."You should explain the details of the trial."
"The content is simple," she said."Battle me."
"How?" Luo Yu asked, sensing danger beneath her seductive smile.
The black patterns etched along her legs began to glow with a sinister light. Barefoot, she stepped gracefully through the air until she stood directly before him.
"In my tavern," she whispered,"if you can last five seconds, you win."
Luo Yu's face lit up—until he followed the direction her slender finger pointed.
His mind screamed a single word: Damn it.
"Scared?" she laughed softly."No confidence in five seconds?"
Her aura shifted dramatically. The black markings radiated dark energy, especially in the curves of her body, creating an almost terrifying depth.
"What kind of twisted god sets trials like this?" Luo Yu said grimly.
She burst into laughter.
"Caught me, didn't you? Of course this isn't his trial. But the first test is mine to decide."
"I've been alone here for a thousand years," she said lazily."Surely I'm allowed to entertain myself a little."
With a casual wave of her hand, a jade wine cup appeared, filled with a translucent black liquid glittering like starlight.
She gazed at it, disappointment and disdain crossing her face.
"Such a pity. In all these centuries, not a single man has lasted even three seconds beneath my legs."
"How could anyone ever drink the Illusory Spirit Wine… and reach the inheritance beyond?"
Luo Yu had already reached a conclusion.
This woman was likely some kind of artifact spirit, left here too long, her mind twisted by isolation. Whatever god's inheritance this was, there was no way the true trial involved something this absurd.
"What exactly does the Illusory Spirit Wine do?" Luo Yu asked, deliberately stalling.
She gently rotated the cup, admiring the liquid.
"After drinking it, your body undergoes a complete transformation. One of its effects is granting you a skill that allows your body to become intangible."
Luo Yu's eyelid twitched.
He stared at the starlit liquid, stunned. Whatever this was, its effects were absurdly powerful.
"And how does that relate to the next trial?" he asked.
She waved her hand again.
The tavern counter drifted aside, revealing a deep, pitch-black cavern beneath the floor, exuding endless cold.
From within came the shrieks of countless wailing spirits. Ghostly winds howled—it was utterly terrifying.
Only then did she speak calmly:
"Only those who drink it can enter that place and survive."
"Only those who survive are qualified for the true divine trial."
"Otherwise," she smiled faintly,"even a Titled Douluo would be torn apart by a million undead souls."
