Chapter 85 - Luo Xue Team vs Warhammer Team

"It's been so long and we still haven't been called?" Luo Yu felt a little bored after waiting for what seemed like forever.

Shui Yue'er sat nearby, eyes closed as she adjusted her soul power in pre-battle preparation. Hearing his voice, she opened her eyes and replied, "It's probably because they're still matching us with opponents of similar rank. It should be soon."

Just as she finished speaking, a staff member wearing a deep purple uniform and a badge walked backstage with a roster in hand.

"Contestants Meng Hu and Xue Wu, where are you?"

"Over here." Luo Yu, nearly moldy from boredom, jumped up immediately and said, "I'm Meng Hu!"

Then he muttered under his breath, "Seriously, the code name you guys gave me is so lame. It doesn't suit my temperament at all."

"Pfft." A few of the girls, including Xue Wu, couldn't help laughing behind their hands, shaking their heads.

"What are you all laughing at?" Luo Yu asked suspiciously.

Xue Wu looped her arm around his. "Come on, forget it. Let's go — it's our turn to fight."

"We're coming too; it's too boring backstage," Shui Bing'er said, giggling as she led the others along.

Under the guidance of the staff member, Luo Yu and Xue Wu entered through the soul master passageway and stepped onto the competition stage.

Even though it was just a subdivided Dueling Soul Arena, the platform had a diameter of more than twenty meters — a wide enough space for soul masters to fight freely.

As the masked Luo Yu and the beautiful, full-bosomed girl appeared on stage together, the audience erupted in an uproar. Looking around, every seat on the grandstands was filled, the air buzzing with excitement and noise.

"Isn't that the kid they were talking about in the promos — the one who came with seven girls?" a sharp-faced, skinny man jeered.

"And he's wearing a mask too. What, is he scared of losing face if the girls carry him to victory? Or is he worried about getting caught farming points?"

Another voice rose in protest, "Why are you all mocking him? Sounds like you're just jealous."

"Jealous my ass! I just hate those freeloading nobodies. I heard that guy's only a one-ring soul master," the skinny man sneered.

An elderly man beside him spoke calmly, "Young man, don't judge by appearances. There's a reason those girls follow him — he's probably not as simple as he looks."

"Yeah right. Probably just some rich second-generation brat. If he really had skill, would he be hiding behind a mask? Anyone with strength would want to show their face here," another scoffed.

Someone else chimed in, "I agree. A one-ring soul master can't be that great. This looks like an easy win for the other side."

The old man didn't argue. He just shook his head — he might only be a Grand Soulmaster, but years of experience had sharpened his intuition.

On stage, a middle-aged man in a tuxedo stood at the center and cleared his throat. "Next, we'll proceed with the fifth match of the two-on-two division."

"The Warhammer Team versus the Luo Xue Team!"

Luo Yu raised an eyebrow and glanced at Xue Wu — so they named the teams after surnames, huh?

Their opponents stood across from them — two burly men in their thirties, tiger-eyed and broad-shouldered, their upper bodies bare. Muscular arms bulged with veins, making it obvious they were power-type soul masters.

The host began the introduction. "The Warhammer Team — brothers Zhan Tiexin and Zhan Tiedan, both Soul Elders, and currently on a four-win streak!"

The audience erupted into thunderous cheers. A four-win streak in the Great Spirit Arena was no small feat — one lucky win could happen to anyone, but not four in a row. That meant real strength.

"Luo Xue Team — Luo Xue, Soul Elder; Meng Hu, Soul Master."

As the sluggish introduction finished, a wave of boos rose from the stands.

A one-ring soul master joining a three-ring match? Obviously here to mess around. The crowd hated these kinds of "for fun" contestants — and wearing a mask on top of that just made it worse, as if he was hiding out of guilt.

Luo Yu ignored the jeers and the opponents completely, but then turned sharply to the side. "Meng?? Meng Hu??"

Xue Wu bit her lip to stifle her laughter. "Don't look at me — I didn't come up with it."

"Who did?!" Luo Yu growled. "Are they mocking me?!"

"Giggle~ Yue'er said it suits your… temperament better." Xue Wu covered her red lips as she chuckled.

Luo Yu gritted his teeth. "Let's stick to the plan for now. When this is over, I'm tanning her little butt raw."

Backstage, Shui Yue'er suddenly tensed up, sensing trouble. "Sis, do you think Brother Yu will be mad at me?"

Shui Bing'er rolled her eyes. "Serves you right for being cheeky. Scared now?"

"Hmph! Brother Yu wouldn't hit me over something so small," Shui Yue'er said, puffing up with false confidence.

Meanwhile, the host had left the stage. The crowd was filled mostly with Warhammer Team supporters; hardly anyone rooted for Luo Yu and Xue Wu. Everyone was waiting for the expected one-sided show.

Clang!

"Match — begin!"

The burly Warhammer brothers didn't rush in. They flexed their iron fists and smirked.

"Big Brother, looks like this is our fifth straight win handed to us on a platter," Zhan Tiedan rumbled.

Zhan Tiexin nodded, his eyes glued to Xue Wu's chest.

"Tiedan, this chick's pretty spicy. Since the win's already in the bag, no need to end it too quickly."

Xue Wu noticed his lecherous gaze, disgust flashing across her face. "Brother Yu, I didn't think people in the Great Spirit Arena could be this vile."

Behind the mask, Luo Yu's tone was calm and cold. "Not everyone here is trash like them. Guess our luck's just bad."

They didn't bother lowering their voices. The Zhan brothers grew enraged, and with a roar, three soul rings — yellow, yellow, and purple — flared up beneath each of them. Enormous black warhammers appeared in their hands.

The crowd gasped again.

"These brothers are the real deal — best soul ring ratio possible! Looks like the pretty girl won't be carrying anyone today," someone said mockingly.

The fierce, domineering aura rolling off the Zhan brothers filled the stage. "Today, we'll teach you rookies what it means to be crushed!"

Xue Wu's body glowed with a faint blue light as her Martial Soul — the Delicate Snow Dance Swirl — manifested behind her. Icy crystals floated around her body, and three soul rings shimmered beneath her feet.

"Oh? Big Bro, that little chick's rings aren't bad at all," Zhan Tiedan said in surprise.

"So what? There's still a one-ring kid backing her up. Are you telling me we can't handle that?"

Zhan Tiexin sneered at Luo Yu. "Hey, you hiding behind that mask — why don't you release your precious single ring and show Grandpa here what a real weakling looks like? I've been in this arena for years and never seen a one-ring fool before."

"Oh?" Luo Yu's voice came out from under the mask, icy and calm. "You really want to see?"

"See?" Zhan Tiexin burst out laughing. "You think you're worth the trouble? Go ahead, show us that pathetic little ring of yours!"

"You—!" Xue Wu's temper flared, and she was about to attack when a large hand stopped her.

BOOM!

A surge of golden flames erupted around Luo Yu, radiating an incomparably scorching, tyrannical aura that swept across the entire stage.

A dazzling golden sun rose behind him, surrounded by star-like rings, and within it echoed the deep roar of a dragon — its power awe-inspiring and supreme.

The spectators and the once-smirking Zhan brothers froze, eyes wide, stunned like petrified statues.

"H-how is this possible…?! Isn't he supposed to be a one-ring soul master?!"
