Chapter 126 - The Blood Throne

POV: Lucian Varrow-Tharos

The guards didn't attack.

They should have. I could feel the hybrid hunger coiling in my chest, ready to tear through flesh and bone, to feast on the life force burning in every body before me. My wolf snarled in harmony with that darker presence, both of us ready for violence.

But the guards—they knelt.

Every single one dropped to the stone floor of the Temple of First Blood, heads bowed, weapons clattering beside them. Their terror perfumed the air, sharp and sweet and intoxicating.

Even Kaelen had gone still, his crimson eyes wide with something that looked almost like recognition.

"Impossible," he breathed. "The eyes—both colors at once—that's not—"

"Not what?" My voice came out wrong. Layered. As if my wolf and the hybrid were speaking in unison, two voices braided into one. "Not possible? Not allowed?"
