It's as ordinary as it can get for Ryuuji... and that's comfortable, it's seriously great not having to do anything else. Everyday, staying home... playing games, watching videos, and chatting away with unknown people online, isn't that the life? Oh, what's that? It turns out there's a group interview at a nearby entertainment venue... hold on, an interview? an interview without having to submit an application? My eyes lit up at that. Can I seriously get a job without having to attend a school? I clutched my fist in excitement. "There's no way I'm not going!!! Oh yeah!!" I shouted, in the small space of my apartment, probably disturbing the neighbors whilst doing so.
I picked out the ... best clothes I had, which so happened to be my track jacket, a plain white shirt, and some basic black pants. I decided to keep the track jacket unzipped for style purposes and not to appear like a typical shut in... I mean there's no point going if you're not trying, right?
After listening to some meaningless nag from his parental figure, Ryuuji brushed his teeth (which was actually pretty rare for him, though he somehow didn't have smelly breath) and headed out the door of his rather spacious apartment at exactly 3:00 PM. The entertainment venue that Ryuuji would be heading to for an interview was, well... walking distance, but he decided to use the public bus anyway to get there. To be fair, there was a road along the way with no sidewalk, which you'd end up looking like some sort of hitch-hiker if you were seen walking along it, but I guess that didn't really matter. An already out of breath Ryuuji boarded the bus which was pretty empty as usual. Now he was getting nervous, thinking about a group interview with other candidates around the same age as him... this was way out of his comfort zone! Well, there's no turning back now.. tch. He steeled his resolve, after all, he needed a job. Sure he was a hikikomori but he knows that he needs to work for himself and make a wage if he wants to live in this world, even if the tasks are undesirable.
The bus ride went by quickly, this entertainment venue was a short distance away, the bus stop was a bit further than the actual venue so it required a bit of walking including crossing 2 lanes to reach. Ryuuji ran across the street as soon as he saw no cars nearby, walking normally along the street was way too scary for him, I guess he's a bit of a coward. "Hah... I made it." he said in his head, though the "Hah" part was audible, he was once again out of breath. Ryuuji took a bit of time standing behind the staircase to the entrance to catch his breath, he'd need to talk to probably a receptionist inside the venue to figure out where he'd be taking his group interview. After a few seconds Ryuuji walked up the stairs to the entrance door with slightly wavering courage, he walked up to the first counter, "Um... I'm here for the group interview". Just then the woman at the counter signaled for one of the other staff who looked like a manager, standing a few meters to the right. The man walked up to me "Are you here for the interview?", I nodded shakily, still slightly out of breath and nervous, "Right this way." he said, I followed wordlessly.
The man took me up 2 flights of stares, wow, I didn't even know this place had a second floor... well the roof is really high up, I guess it's expected for an entertainment warehouse. There was a room that looked like a meeting office with glass windows and a glass door, I entered and took the nearest seat, sitting next to the row of people beside me, before realizing that they all had what looked to be 2 papers and a nametag. I was then reminded "Did you sign your name and your phone number?", I looked behind me to see the sheet where I was supposed to sign, I got up and did so. Wow... I really hate writing... especially in english. So much so to the point that I have to violently scribble on paper right after writing to get rid of the feeling of it.
I sat back down where I was seated before, looking as proper as can be as I glanced down at the other candidates who all seemed fairly confident... well... not confident in the way that you'd use to describe someone who's boasting but confident as in, competent. They really all did seem composed and ready for this compared to me.
The 2 staff members who I assumed were leading this group interview walked in the room and introduced themselves, I couldn't latch onto any information... surprisingly not even their names. Well, here it begins.
The interview ended with me feeling completely drained... it consisted of more social interaction than I anticipated... my unwillingness to interact is surely going to flunk my chances of getting a job...
The first task was to introduce yourself and why you wanted the job for atleast 1 minute!!! 1 minute!!!!!! jeez... that was nerve-wracking. Next we were given 5 cubes colored grey and orange, paired into groups of 3, and told to create a game with these cubes to test our ability to well... make games and ennact fun on the spot. And well, I honestly forgot what we did last. I walked out of the venue looking as proper as can be and immediately hung my head as soon as I was outside.
Man... I really feel like a loser. I forced myself to keep my head up with a determined look on my face. "I came for a job, I'm going to get a job!!" I said to myself as i clenched a fist and raised it in the air. Not paying attention, I walked across the street towards the bus stop, wait, didn't I always run when it came to crossing the street? A lamborghini roaring it's engine came full speed towards me, the light was green and there was no way for the driver to see me just a couple of meters back because of the sharp turn and a bridge overhead.
I felt a sharp, intense pain quickly spread from my pelvis to my legs and spine, I was tossed back a few feet and hit the ground with a thud, I lied limp on the side of the road with the lamborghini passed... fortunately that was the only car that was passing by at the time, but... I don't think I can get up, and it really hurts...
Ryuuji's consciousness soon faded, and all he remembers is the faint, noisy sound of sirens and chatter between adults, then everything, all his senses, went black.
