Chapter 27 - The Downfall of Mary the rising star

Rising of the Betrayed Weakest Player

Chapter 27: The Downfall of Mary the rising star

(Bonzua, D-City)

Four months ago, Mary had been a refined, pure, and elegant young woman—deeply in love with Sam. As a rising star of the 7th largest guild, Star Hunter, she had already reached Level 37. Sam, meanwhile, was a G-rank player who never leveled up, yet Mary loved him with all her heart.

But everything began to change when her friends introduced her to Victor, another rising star in their guild. Though young, Victor was already Level 60—an A-rank player.

At first, Mary felt nothing for Victor. But her friends slowly began criticizing Sam behind his back, insisting Victor was a better match. "Enjoy your youth," they told her. "With your looks, you could easily have two or three boyfriends." Mary insisted she wasn't interested.

Victor, however, was a playboy. He loved taking what belonged to others and breaking relationships. He set his sights on Mary and began making subtle advances.

At first, Mary resisted. But slowly, lust began to cloud her judgment. Victor changed her, piece by piece, without Sam ever realizing. The time Mary spent with Sam dwindled until they barely saw each other. Four months later, Mary was drowning in lust, greed, and pride. She betrayed Sam publicly, watching as Victor beat him mercilessly. The once pure and beautiful Mary was gone, replaced by someone entirely different—all because of Victor.

Now, as Mary stood frozen in the guild hall, she watched Victor—drunk and laughing—kissing two other girls. Her world shattered. Her face went pale, eyes wide in disbelief.

"V-Victor?" she whispered.

He turned, his lips curling into a disgusting grin—one she once found charming, now repulsive.

"Ahhh! Mary, darling," he slurred, stumbling toward her. "Here you are. Come on, let's have a drink."

He reached for her, but Mary's heart twisted in pain. She shoved his hand away, tears streaming down her face.

"What are you doing with those two girls?!" she screamed, her voice echoing through the hall.

A crowd gathered, watching intently.

Victor's expression darkened. "Oi, Mary. What are you doing?"

"What do you mean, 'what am I doing'? What are you doing? Why are you fooling around with them?"

He sighed dramatically. "Sigh!!! So that's what this is about? They're just my girlfriends."

Mary stared, completely blank. "W-what are you even saying??"

Victor grinned as if stating the obvious. "Oh, c'mon. You didn't think a guy like me would be satisfied with just one girl, did you?"

Something in Mary snapped. "Why? Why would you do this to me, you bastard!!!"

In a blind rage, she cast a fireball at him—large and fierce enough to make the onlookers flinch. But Victor extinguished it effortlessly, as though swatting a fly.

Enraged, Mary charged with her sword. Victor calmly drew his own. With a single, precise strike, he shattered her blade. Before she could react, he grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall.

Choking, gasping for air, Mary struggled as Victor leaned close.

"What's wrong with you now?" he sneered. "Didn't you do the same thing?"
