~Abigail's POV~
Something flickers in Darius' eyes. It looks like realization, maybe even understanding before he finally nods.
"Okay."
"Thank you."
He laughs under his breath. "No, thank you."
"Why?" I laugh. "Because I'm saying the most obvious thing? Look, we're on a family vacation. I'm sure those bastards who tried to kill us opened the others' eyes, and now...."
Before I can say more, he suddenly rolls over, pulling me with him until I'm pressed against his body.
"I guess you understand me better than I thought," he whispers.
I can't help leaning in, brushing my cheek against his. His breath catches, and I smile.
"I guess I do because we're the older ones with shitty parents who couldn't protect us," I murmur.
His eyes soften. "Veronica was your stepmom, right?"
"Yeah," I whisper. "Taro never talked about my biological mom. I just assumed he killed her, too."
I shrug, though that thought always burns somewhere deep inside me. I hate Taro so much.
