Chapter 63 - Use the distraction

Stephanie's POV

My leg would not stop bouncing. It was like it had a mind of its own. I was going crazy. This place was insane. I was sitting on a couch so soft you could lose a small child in it, in a living room bigger than a basketball court. And I felt like a bird in a really, really nice cage. A gilded cage, they call it. Well, the gold was starting to feel like prison bars.

My side hurt, but that wasn't the real problem. The problem was my brain. It was spinning in circles. Cane knew who Tabitha was, I was sure of it. But every time I brought her name up, he'd suddenly remember he had to check on the stock market or water his imaginary plants. He had clammed up tighter than a jar of pickles.

I needed to do something. I needed my laptop. My secret one. The one I use for my… other job. The Sparrow needed to fly, but her wings were clipped in this fancy prison.

The problem was, the laptop was hidden in my suitcase. At the hotel. Which was miles away.
